If it’s like the Howling Banshees kit, there’ll be enough heads to do a full squad with either.

there being shining spear model gives me hope for warp spiders and swooping hawks.

I'm a little concerned that the warp spider rumor was born out of the warp spider equipped autarch, since we haven't seen anything else of them. Meanwhile, it'd be weird to have Maugan Ra but no Dark Reapers.

I'm concerned that only Maugan Ra is the only Lord getting an update when they all look comically squatty and outdated, and it was just 5 models to update, and we didn't "need" rangers on bike.

Regarding the aspect warriors, I think unless the baharroth/hawks rumor proves to be true, seems to me that we won't get any update for either the remaining lords and their aspect warriors until 10th edition codex in...2-3 years?

The rumor were spot on on one point: it's just half of an update.

I'd argue that his sculpt held up the best. I'd have done Karandras and Asurmen before him and maybe Fuegan too. But they picked Maugan Ra because they have the Reapers ready I guess.

No, we didn't, but GW seems to prefer to add new models over resculpting old ones.

That seems... just a little inaccurate, given what's coming out. They do like to add some new things alongside resculpts, though.
We're currently at 1 new thing for 5/6? confirmed resculpts (depending on how you want to count guardians and storm guardians).

Speaking of Phoenix Lords, I'd like them to make Phoenix Lords for Shining Spears and Warp Spiders. Or Phoenix Ladies perhaps, to even the gender balance a bit.

Here's another summary of leaks from bolter and chainsword. As always, take with salt

No new phoenix lord models shown in current print version aside maugan ra
No new HQ options
No new units aside from shroudrunners
No extra rules that play with Fate Dice

"Cant tell" information on spiritseers
"no big chances" for psychic powers (low warp charges? Or no big changes to current 8th edition versions? Question was on power ranges and warp charge)

Guardian Defenders can take serpent scale platforms
Rangers are still troops
Rangers have a -1 to hit

Refuses to release warp spider model (no new model or just not showing them?)
Showed Spears. Primarilly white colour scheme with blue detail (colour inversion), model helmetless, shuriken catapult looks more defined
Shinging spears losing 4++
Unsure on how the laser lances have changed will confirm next time
Wraithgude/blades are core, can be resurrected by Ynnari psychic power
Wraithguard profile image shared:

Harlequin:
HQs have "pivotal roles"
Troopemaster lost reroll wounds
All harlequin melee weapons have same profile but unique strats, one ignores invuln
Solitaire has same profile and cost, including 3++, but cannot take relics now
A certain harlequin weapon is 3 shot ap1 D2, unspecified (got confused between it and haywire)

Well, yeah, finally in this release, but I was meaning historically. It's my impression that they prefer new models anticipating greater sales than resculpts would get. I could be wrong.

Looking back 6th edition Eldar got 5 new sculpts/kits (Illic, Wraithblades, Wraithknight, Hunter/Hemlock, Spiritseer) and 2 resculpts (Farseer, Wraithguard). But that's messy because of the Wraithguard/Blades kit. In 7th Eldar got 3 resculpts (Eldrad, Autarch, Windriders) and 4 new ones (3x Ynnari, Farseer on bike). That's messy too. There was Warlock on bike back in 2nd, but no Farseer on bike. Now they're the same kit. You'd have to go back to 4th to see more resculpts than new stuff, but even that's debatable. In 4th most aspects got redone (Banshees, Reapers, Avengers, Scoprions, Dragons). Wraithlord, War Walkers, and support weapons got new sculpts when moving to plastic at that time. Rangers were updated too. Then there was 5 new Autarchs and the Bonesinger. The debatable part is the 3 Farseers. They could technically count as resculpts of the older models, but they didn't appear to be updates of the existing models.

That is indeed really messy, and doesn't really support your point well. Especially when 'GW seems to prefer' is expanded beyond eldar.

S5 will be a big improvements for the Striking Scoprions, I was expecting all the 3+ Aspects to go to T4 but that may be Fire Dragon only. The Claw certainly looks lackluster compared to the new Biting Blade. Wonder if they'll allow the dual chainsword version again or just keep it in legends.

Yeah afraid this is likely the case - it is hard not to want more - to see all of the lords and aspects redone in plastic this year but it would not surprise me if we only see Ra and the Reapers (nice band name that) plus the Shining Spears. And without any photo "leaks" so far on the Reapers I am sorta even not 100 percent counting on those (maybe teased tomorrow but thinking more likely Spears we will see....)

I will personally be THRILLED if we see more but trying very hard to keep expectations low....

Edited to add, regarding the Ranger bikes and new vs. redoing the old, IF this bike is shared with the Shining Spear kit (either a dual kit or the kits share some sprues) then I actually commend GW for doing that - combining a redo of an old kit and a new kit based off it seems like a good idea to get more mileage and it makes some sense. Even better if they were to use that same bike sprue to do a third kit for a new biker-autarch....

Honestly, after Dark Eldar, this is light years beyond what I thought Craftworlds would get.

Or they'd get new even-more-bigger Ynnari units like Orks got Beast Boys.

All things considered, I'm relieved and impressed. (though reserve the right to shake my head at the absurdity of the rules update)

Really. There have been too many 'have a single character (or worse, single special character) releases to squeeze books out faster. Elf armies are pretty typical victims of that, because GW has always had little idea of how to deal with them, rules-wise (which is why they so often went on a 10 year cycle when other armies kept marching on). And GW has been obviously conflicted about how to deal with the not-a-new-army they started to make, and whether Ynarri would supplement or replace Craftworlds, whether Harlies would be their own thing or not and a bunch of other issues. That the obvious compromise book came with lots of model releases is _very much_ a surprise.

Not my memory. I wasn't playing 40k back then, just Space Hulk. Anyway, I was going off of Lexicanum. The skyrunner was shown as a 3rd edition model, not 2nd so that was my mistake. But since I posted, Siegfriedfr, a participant in this thread, edited the page of Eldar miniatures and removed that Warlock skyrunner.

Yeah your comment made me check my various GW/Citadel catalogue and there is no mention of a commercially sold Warlock Skyrunner model before the 7th Edition release, to my knowledge.

This picture was, apparently, just an official GW kitbash, thus got removed from the lexicanum miniatures page.

Wraithguard resurrected by Ynarri ridic necron tricks? As bad as restartes. Still down for the new box but the chaos side is looking better and better relatively. The more we see, the less excited I am to update the eldar collection after all.

That’s what I figured would happen as well, but that would mean maybe 30 heads in the guardian box, 10 helmet, 10 helmet with plume, 10 bare heads. Seems a lot.

One thing to consider is that when it comes to replacing existing kits, GW doesn't have to tie them to a new book or codex or anything. They can just throw them out into the wild. So it might be this is the chunky update for the new Codex, but with an expansion or two in the future, much like how the Howling Banshee came out. GW could certainly do that with the other aspects, though I'm kind of surprised how few they are updating of them. I'd have thought they'd have updated a few more. Granted they've updated Guardians which is a great update (plus it means new painted models so Eldar will stop having the worst looking troops on the 40K website)

I wonder if this is a reaction to GW not understanding their own game and so reacting with bafflement and frustration as to why players kept selecting the S5 AP-2 melee weapon over the S4 AP-3 one?

Well I find it annoying only because it seems only to apply to eldar units - marines have how many different boltgun types? And they can't even be bothered to retain differences between the unique harlequin weapons?

Pretty poor imo.

I would think it was a reaction to the time necessary to roll all the attacks for differing weapon types within the unit. They want you to take multiple different weapons in the unit, but the rules encouraged you not do that. This sounds like a change that simplifies rolling your attacks (same WS, S, AP, and Dmg means you can fast roll the entire unit) while still giving some difference to the weapons, even if only sometimes via Stratagem.
