Kronk thinks he wasn't on A watch list before

Truth be told he wasn't on one, he's on four .

I can still see a plastic one coming out though. I think the speed in which stuff gets done digitally and then into plastic has sped up so much that this resin update might have just been caught in the middle. We will probably see it out for a month or three then the plastic released afterwards. That way they make up some of their loses from sculpting and molding this new kit.

Correct! Incoming TH discussion can continue ITT.
Thanks!

So it doesn't get lost in the rollover.

I feel like it should have had the ball turrets like the newer flyers. Hopefully doesn't get a big price hike.

I'm still hoping Warhammer Community is telling fibs about the new Thunderhawk being resin.

Personally, I hate the ball turrets on the newer fliers so I'm quite happy it doesn't. Part of my issue with them is that there's such a huge gap around them. It just makes them look poorly fitted.
Generally, I like the new design. I particularly like the nod to the old epic thunderhawks (and indeed the 28mm metal thunderhawk too) with the over/under heavy bolters on the nose. Personally though I'm not sure about the cockpit. It almost appears in this image like the canopy armature is like a clear resin (or plastic??)* but the openings are just really large which makes it all the more obvious there is no glass in them. I kinda have the same issue with the stormbird though, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

*Edit: actually I bet it's a 3d printed part that's not been converted to resin and is still in some sort of transparent material from a UV-based printer.

Had anyone considered the new resin version shown is at a different scale to the old one?

Yeah, I don't think it's quite the same size as the old one. It seems a wee bit smaller to me, but it's tough to really get a good sense of scale just from that picture. The pilots appear to be a bit larger comparative to the rest of the model I think.

Is anyone else just like, totally deflated by the new resin Thawk? I was so excited for the potential modeling opportunities of finally getting a plastic one. I'm heartbroken.

Yeah, deflated is the right word. Nice to see the kit get a little bit of an update, but a resounding "meh."

Yup. Colossal disappointment.

I really wanted a plastic one.

Agree completely - I was stoked that they'd finally bitten the bullet, listened to those in the fan-base who had been talking out for years...and then this...

I was only in the 5-10% chance of ever buying a plastic Thunderhawk...but that does drop to 0% with it still being a massive chunk of likely-warped resin. No thanks.

I'm not yet willing to give up on the plastic T-Hawk.

Consider the following:
1. I'm pretty sure we were told that FW would be able to do plastics (back when Specialist Games were announced as returning?)

2. It doesn't actually explicitly say that the production version will be resin, just that the pre-production version is resin.

3. We know that pre-production versions of plastics are produced in resin.

Get... hype?

Well, I don't really want to say it since I got blasted for it by a couple people in the OTHER T-Hawk thread.....but since I'm not the first to say in this thread....

A Resin one does not mean there won't be a plastic one.

GW has been fairly quick on turning around Resins into Plastics lately.

They could still make one for any number of reasons.

It is true that it was mentioned in the past that some FW stuff might soon be in plastic, at least in part. However, if the FW version is resin, then the likelyhood of GW making a plastic version is pretty low.

That being said, this kind of thing did happen before. FW produced a resin add-on kit to turn the Baneblade into a Shadowsword, and about 8 months later GW came out with their own plastic version. I know a single large conversion sprue isn't the same as a full model, but hey, crazier things have happened.

Shame, I was looking forward to a plastic THawk but I wouldn't trust myself to have such a large resin model and not drop it within a week or so. Plus even the display pic looks like there is some warpage around the cannon area, something looks a little off... Maybe it is just the angle though.

No way that this is just a pre-production for a plastic kit either, it's made out of too many chunky pieces and has a clear resin canopy.

Nice design though, the added details go a long way to bringing it in line with the other SM flyers.

There is the chance rhat this is a 'heresy' pattern and GW will be making the 40k version now.

Figured an image of the old one in a similar pose would be fun for the thread to okay spot the difference on..

...And that still seems extremely improbable, for the reasons stated in that thread. If they were going to do a variant that was roughly synchronous with a plastic release, I'd bet money that it would be like the diemos pattern rhino variants or the storm eagle where they're heavily based on the plastic kit. It doesn't make sense to work in resin that large if you have the option of plastic.

The hope that FW got to work in plastic is hugely more likely, and that's still unlikely.

It looks significantly smaller but I guess that's just from the new cockpit design? the tail throws me off a little though! either way still a nice model, just not plastic.

That, exactly. I don't like the Thunderhawk enough to build even one, in resin. In plastic, I'd have had one for a few of my different armies. The ease of construction would be enough to convince me to do centerpiece models like that, where I'm not willing to go to that much butt-pain with resin.

Or, another way to think of it...I might have convinced myself to do one in resin as such a centerpiece, but I don't think I'd put the time into multiples, and I have enough armies that that one single Thunderhawk might have gone into that I would have a hard time deciding which, so I opt to do none, instead.

1 is painted, and was released with much hoopla.

The other is unpainted, and more of a disappointment than finding Walley World is closed.

The new one does look much nicer than the old brick. I never expected plastic, but I also didn't care. Who really buys and uses these? Even in 30k, they are for huge thematic games that I likely will never want to play (like 4k point and up).
