We don' need no stinkin' legs! We's a mek, tracks is much better than legs

I to think legs are over rated. But tracks? No, no, no my friend. Strawberry Jam would be so much better. Tracks are crunchy and oily. Strawberry Jam sweet and sticky.

'Tis a truism that you speak. The tracks are crunchy and the jam is sticky

However, if you only have jam, then once you have licked the jam, it is gone, no more, and then....you have no jam to lick.

But...

If one has tracks, one can move from jam to jam, sampling as one pleases, enjpying the sticky sweetness wherever it takes one's fancy. And no need for limiting oneself to strawberry either. Hmm, think on that....strawberry jam, bramble jelly, perhaps even a smidgeon of thick cut marmalade, all within one's grasp.

Of course in an ideal world it would be jam tracks all the way, but sadly the mechanics of such inevitably lead to sweet spreads being liberally sprayed where they should not be sprayed and locomotion ending abruptly - an all too common sight these days is jam-smeared boyz wailing as they vainly try to drag their oily, sticky torsos away from the attentions of hungry squig-wasps.

I am humbled by your wisdom good sir. Your envisionment of jam tracks is truly a great one. My fellow Dakkinuts. We must stop this warring amongst ourselves and pool our resources together and see Monkeytroll the Wise's vision of jam tracks come to life. This shall benefit all and we shall prosper like never before. It will be a great day for everyone when jam track become a reality.

All right then, it's been some time since I last updated. I blame, in no particular order: Art commissions, World of Warcraft, laziness and a new project you'll see in a moment.

However I have seen slowly working my way through my painting backlog and have a few things to show you:

Painted up the last of my Trukks, it wasn't in the best of conditions when it started but I think it came out all right.

I also felt like adding a bit of variety to my Goffs so am painting up a handful of Boyz as Evil Sunz, here's the first.

Not finished yet but those Zzap guns are at least painted enough that they won't look too out of place... that is, if I ever use them.

I've also got my hands on some legs for my second Big Mek so I could finish building him and now he's just waiting to be primed.

Unlike my other Mek his KFF actually has a tangible power supply, the power plant from a set of Terminator armour, speaking of which...

I mentioned at the start of this post a new project. Well, as my Orks are now only a single battlewagon away from being more or less complete (from a building perspective) I felt the desire to start a new army, something completely different to my Orks, something that instead of being incredibly numerous and relied heavily on transports why not go for something with little to no vehicles and incredibly low model count.

I chose Deathwing.

However, being the awkward bugger I am I chose to make up my own Dark Angels successor chapter, The Sons of Desolace, and knocked up this test model:

Being fairly happy with that I moved onto:

The lack of a model for Belial meant I finally had an excuse to get this model, he's not quite finished (mostly since the photos showed up what a hash I made of the torso) but I'm pretty happy with him, It's my first Resin model so I was fairly nervous putting it together. He's just played as Belial with Lightning Claws.

And the rest of them, between this lot I have a legal (if horribly optimised) Deathwing army. I've played a couple of small games with it and although I lost horribly, was still lots of fun.

There's more I have to show but I forgot to take photos, so you'll have to wait for those... I'll try to not make it a month until the next update this time though.

Your excuses are almost acceptable, however as an Eve player I'm contractually obliged to disallow WoW as an excuse for anything

Big mek looks cool, are you planning on keeping part/all of the flying stand clear, or was it just a handy size?

Those red and black 'ard boyz look good, but how do the boyz get inside?

And now for the promised actual update...

To start things off on a nice Orky note, I got one of my converted AOBR nobz painted up a bit ago. As always, photographing it shows up numerous errors that aren't really noticeable in person... but that's always the way isn't it?

I also managed to paint up my second KFF Big Mek in Evil Sunz colours (I can now blame him for painting all my Goff's trukks red ).

Finally for the Orks I got around to getting the Deff Dread up to a point where I don't feel bad for leaving it... in all honesty I was somewhat bored of painting it, which probably shows.

Moving on, my Deathwing has received a fair bit of attention in the last few weeks, I guess I felt like they deserved a bit of attention as they actually managed to win a game the other week... Huzzah! One thing I was worrying about was doing the handful of bare heads in the army, I've painted 50+ Ork bare heads, granted, but human heads are somewhat smaller and I hadn't tried painting one in over a decade... and those old attempts were bloody awful. However I bit the bullet and painted this guys head, I know the picture's not great but I was too happy with not utterly ruining the model to not share. Just the rest of him to finish now.

What with all the painting of marines I got the hankering to paint some regular power armoured types, so I knocked this guy together from old marine parts to begin a little Company Veteran squad which can occasionally accompany my Deathwing, he just needs his company marking painting on his shoulder and he's done.

And what with making a vet squad, the desire for combi-meltas appeared, now I have enough problems locating regular meltaguns from Bitz sites and the like so I thought I'd have a go at knocking one together from left over bolters and what was left of a Multi-melta, don't really like the design of the 'official' one, looks too much like a melta-gun with an attached bolter rather than the other way round, quite happy with what I came up with.

Needs a bit of tidying up, any suggestions for improvements would be greatly appreciated.

And finally, proof I actually play the game:

Taken at Warhammer World a few weeks ago during a 2v2 game with some friends and my fiancée, think it was like 1200 points each side or something close.

:O That ork deff dread is just epically awesome, i think its because of the way it looks like it is running and yet really off balence in a orky way. Really nice keep up the good work

Little update of the ongoing effort to get this army fully painted, been working on the Boyz recently, only a handful left now and then these Evil Sunz will be mixed into my Goffs t break up the mobs a little, it's been kinda fun to paint checker board in different colours to be honest.

I also finished off the Skorcha I built a little while back, I should probably never work out how many points I spend on Red Paint Jobs... I don't think I'd like the figure.

Finally, some MkVI Forgeworld armour found it's way into the house, some I've acquired for my veteran marines, quite happy with the outcome:

That's all for now, only 16 models left before the army is fully painted (at least if I don't buy any more Orks) so just mustering the energy for the final push!

Seems I missed an update along the way

Nob and mek look good, and I love the dread Nice 'umie head too

New boyz look cool, and the skorcha is very nice, some nicely worn paint on that.

Probably just the angle, but the knees on that MkVI look a bit weak(model-wise, not paint-wise )

I very much like your idea for the combi melta... though I think the actual melta barrel is a bit large.

@monkeytroll: Thanks a lot. Yeah I took the picture from the worst angle possible it seems, makes his knee joint look weird as hell.

@MagikalMemories: Thanks, yeah I'm not the biggest fan of the normal design of them, although this was purely necessity to be honest as I couldn't afford the 'real' ones. I agree about the barrel but I didn't have any smaller ones spare I'm afraid.

Very nice work. Love the skorcha. The Dread is a nice conversion also.

But I do have to say this. I'm not feeling the marines. I mean the one on the Dread base is awesome. There is just something about marines that arnt dead that bother me.

You could always tilt your head sideways and pretend they're all lying on the floor, dead. Maybe that'd help?

Anyway, I haven't really done much recently 40k-wise due to the fact I've been busy remembering there's a comic I needed to actually draw stuff for, speaking of which, the latest is actually about 40k.

Sadly this is the only one that is 40k related but if you like this there's plenty more at http://air.thecomicseries.com/.
