Nice stuff overall.
Weakest model is the Cronos for me, just because the descripton in the book was a crawling insectoid type thing, but I suppose thats the downside of combining two kits, better that than nothing.
Talos is great, Scourges are amazing, and Venom is nice, if a little Eldar looking, the farseer standing on the back idea could really work.
The Razorwing stands out as the best overall for me mind, beautiful model, can't wait to be facing multiples of them in Aurelia's army.

People who pay attention to my posts (not many ) will know I bash GW continuously on the quality of their sculpts and work.....I'm blown away!!
Not just the latest stuff, but so far, eveyrthing in the line has been excellent. I already have a healthy DE army on the bubble, I was on the fence whether to continue...not anymore, these are by far GW's BEST work....ever.
I can see myself sinking some serious money into my DE army, and IMHO, this is the way GW MUST go in the future...there's almost nothing I can complain about with this miniature range....my god, it's so refreshing!! This even, (bite my tongue for saying this) overshadows the Infinity releases that are due to come out....(Oh, how I hate myself, Corvus Belli forgive me :( )
Well done GW, this time you deserve it!

As a dark eldar player, my thoughts.
Battleforce sucks. Mixing wyches and warriors is like putting tactical marines in the BA battleforce. Oh wait. But 95$ is pretty reasonable, and I'm sure I can find someone to trade me more wyches for the warriors. Reavers are a resounding fail on their part, but again, I'm sure I could chuck them for moar wyches.
Ideally, they could've made two battleforces, one for wych cults, and one for kabals.
Venom is GREAT. I just wish it was like five dollars cheaper. It's not much more than a vyper, which is 25$, right?
Scourges are great, although I'm just buying them for their arms, so a sprue shot would be great. I need at least two Cannons....Hmm.
Chronos and talos are magnificent, but I'm a bit confused. Both pages say This multi-part plastic kit contains parts to make one Dark Eldar Talos Pain Engine or one Cronos Parasite Engine.
Does that mean both kits make both things, so you could have two taloses that look totally different? Are their some overlapping elements in the kit?

Vypers are $30, so the Venom is priced similarly. The Rhino and Trukk are $33, as is the Raider, so it's fine.
Everything is quite lovely in this release; everyone's already said anything that needs saying. That being said, I'm disappointed (not surprised, though) that the Scourges only have one of each weapon. Sorta lame. But since I planned on buying several boxes, it won't be an issue, but for those that wanted to buy five, now they have to hunt for bits (good luck finding Heat Lances or Haywire Blasters cheap...).

Ah, thank you Never mind then, that's not too bad.
I wonder how I'll ever get those six Splinter Cannons I need.... There aren't any more plastic kits coming out, so I just have to keep buying warriors and scourges

Well done Mr. Goodwin.
The Battleforce is a pretty good deal for those (like me) that held off on Dark Eldar. Get 3 Battleforces (if you're smart, you know how to get better than 20% Discount) gives you a start on a Kabal force AND a Wyche force, Raiders can do double duty and the Jetbikes are useful in both.
The Talos/Cronos looks like it can be magnetized.
2 boxes of Scourges that can do double duty then add Incubi/Mandrakes/Harliquins to taste.

It's one kit. You can build one version OR the other, as they seem to share the main body. I don't know why they've put two entries in the website, but if you look an the sprues and the box art, it's the same kit. Like this thing.

I really love the Razorwing and Scourges, I'll be getting lots and will love painting them. The Venom is okay but I just can't see how it carries 6 (assuming 1 pilot): but its just about nice enough for me to overlook that.
JOHIRA wrote:I must be in the minority, I am very unimpressed with the Talos/Chronos. It's executed well, but I'm just not feeling the design. The old skin-flayed pilot design was silly, but I think the new brute with hockey mask design is just as silly. It's just a more stylish form of silly.
I'll join that minority with a curse at GW for not giving me the army without scratch-builds I was hoping for! I really hate these models, yes hate is a strong word but I can see horrific similarities to a few other models across both of GWs main ranges and it totally irritates me. The only thing I give the Talos is at least it resembles the book art. (I am glad however the book lists them as all different and individual for when I have to design/build my own.)

My gripe with the talos is the tail just feels out of place on it. Will have to see if there's something that can be done about it once I have the model in hand.
The cronos I'm also not fond of simply because the tenticle arms look silly. The codex said it was insectoid and I was expecting an evil praying mantis type look.
I honestly wasn't expecting them to be built off a grotesque body to be honest. But I suppose that makes more sense then them being more mechanical in nature.
I don't have the codex at work, but was there a gunner on the venom in the artwork? I'm not sure I like the gunner on the vehicle at all.
The Scourges I like a lot. I was kinda expecting them to look a little less like warriors with wings then the turned out to be to show off their ghost armor. But they really are amazing. I foresee a lot of trouble pawning off the bat wings for more feathered wings though. Perhaps I'll buy 2 sets and convert one to look like evil banshees or something.
Now all those comments out of the way, all of the models are great looking. Just some weren't what I was expecting.

As I will be running a mech force I was most interested in the Venom. I like the model but as other have said it's more Eldar than Dark Eldar to me. But all in all I am just happy it's being released.
I would easily buy 3 Razorwings. Amazing sculpt! But does anyone have a competitive list that runs them or voids? Every list I see has the standard 3 ravagers. If they only made the fighters slightly cheaper in points I might be tempted.

Space Marines are a bit bigger than DE though, guess there is more plastic involved or something
maybe its that hellions are so cheap, 16 points a pop and not really any upgrades. You are supposed to run a squad of 20 and if they were $33 for 5 no one would consider them unless they came int he battle force. Like reaver jetbikes....

I think that's kind of the point. They're basically the pinnacle of Haemonculi fleshcrafting and technoarcane arts. Grotesques are pumped full of steroids and chemicals, etc., until they swell up and become hulking, monstrous things. The Talos and Cronos are probably unlucky souls that get further mutated and modified to become the floating, creepy bug things we see here.

I agree. The Chronos was supposed to be a crawly insectoid robot, and smaller than the Talos... I guess they decided that's the direction they'll be taking Necrons though, and didn't want a unit looking too similar? Venom is nice, if a little Eldar looking, the farseer standing on the back idea could really work.
I don't see that at all. To me the Venom is a Reaver Jetbike, only with wings. Too many sharp angles and not enough round edges to be Eldar.

Well done GW, this time you deserve it!
Here's my theory on why DE have progressed beyond other armies as far as model quality: GW will not abandon the iconic appearance of their iconic army(or armies). For example, SMs have always looked cartoony and goofy, and despite Jes Goodwin's desires, GW will never let those models stray very far from cartoony and goofy. And so they haven't. DE, on the other hand, were never popular enough to have an iconic look in the first place, and thus the sculptors had the liberty to make them look as amazing as they wanted. They were never bound by GWs arbitration that new sculpts should look at least somewhat as gakky as they used to.

Razorwings are competative. Those missiles wreck face. The razorwing also is only missing 1 DL and so it can be done. You just need more raiders less venoms and maybe an extra squad of true blasters.
Voidravens suck, their rules are terrible. You might as well just announce to your opponent you are going easy on them by giving them a 150+ point advantage by taking it.
