Oh, there was little to no care take, that’s touch up work!
Viterbi wrote:That bright dot in the middle makes all the difference, exhausts look great! And would also leave the jump packs as is. Maybe look at the minis after two weeks and if you still have the urge to add to them, then you should do it.

And good luck on getting the game in, organizer looks great on thingiverse, very interested in seeing pics from your prints.

Thanks Viterbi, I think you’re right on the bright dot, it looks like it’s painted yellow before that. I’ll try to remember to get a few pics of the setup and maybe game too.
Olthannon wrote:Nice work on the marines, the jetpacks are really well done. Yeah I agree with the others, think they look good as is!

Thanks Olthannon, I’m liking them.

So it seems that the internet has spoken, so I’m calling them done. That is the way.

I did about 5 mins to fixing mistakes on them and grabbed a few bits to take some photos, apologies that it wasn’t with my camera

Further apologies for cropping bits of the beakie marine from some of the pics! whilst putting them on their shelf I took some in situ pics;

This time Beakie is front and centre, so it worked out in the end I think

I couldn’t resist some pics of the others either;

Thanks for looking and the ideas along the way with these guys

I love seeing army shots and this looks fantastic Gobert!

Such a cool looking army. Really eye catching colour scheme and the contrasting colours work so well.

Thanks Olthannon, the Army shots were great fun and I love how they look on the board (I really should get that painted soon!

So last night a couple of mates came round and we made a little expedition to the Blackstone Fortress. Here’s the pre-game setup;

It was a continuation of the game I played with one of the two back in October (might even have been September, COVID times are so hard to measure!). Amallyn and Taddeus returned, the latter not being quite as awesome, but sweeping up loads of the archeotech. Pious was deadly as usual, getting 2 inspiration points and killing loads. Espern came along as our new joiner decided to pick the one you think sounds the worst because they usually turn out the best… he was kind of right as the force field he produces saved Amallyn from some Chaos Space Marines. In the end we survived 3 combats and got quite a few Archeotech bits and a Clue. Here’s a pic from the first combat

With a new player it took a little while to get going but once we got in to the swing of it we advanced pretty quickly. The eagle eyed might have spotted the big printed warp gate, which is actually a dice tower. That helped quite a bit with the D8 which always seemed to roll badly. I’ve committed to painting that up before the next game.

Thanks for looking, now I’m off to nurse my hangover whilst the kids make a racket in the other room

Sounds like a successful inaugural game for the BSF terrain, too. Have an aspirin and rest up.

The holders for all the cards looks very handy! We just get them in a stack when we were playing.

We did Janus, Amallyn, UR-025 and Espern for our games. Esperns force field was very helpful for us as well, Amallyn usually was the MVP especially in the larger maps.

Thanks bc, and yes, I have plans for a full Demi company. I’ve got all the bits for a 10 man Devastator squad and I just picked up an ammo cherub too. There’s most of the bits I need for a Command Squad hiding in my stash too.

Thanks Viterbi, it was really fun and all the holders were very practical. We said we would do it again, but who knows when!

It’s been a busy week or so at work and home so I haven’t managed much hobby time. During a few quiet meetings I did manage a little bit of prep work on the Blackstone Fortress Dice Tower I printed and a new acquisition;

Mrs gobert expressed an interest in trying a board game out, and know how much she loves Bill & Ted I suggested I get a copy of Riff in Time. I’ve no idea if it’s any good,but thought it’d be worth a shot given how cheap it is. I also got the expansion so I can get the historical dudes and Rufus minis too. They look pretty decent casts and the mould lines weren’t too heinous. They’re primed grey right now and will be getting a zenithal of white. I’m not intending spending loads of time on them. They’ll mostly be getting Contrast and when my pre order arrives some Speed Paint too. Should be a fun little project!

I’ve also had a painting project going too, which I made good progress on tonight. Keen to finish my Blackstone Fortress collection I decided to work on Aradia Madellan the Psyker from Escalation. To my eye she had a bit of a GSC look about her so I picked this colour scheme;

(I like how her glove has wires over it’s surface I assume to help her powers?). I think the scheme looks ok so far. It’s my first attempt where orange has been a large part of a scheme, I think it’s highlighted up quite well. The white isn’t really white, it Ulthuan grey washed with a thinned Basilicanum grey and highlighted back to Ulthuan. The gold is Gehenna’s with an agrax wash and rehighlighted with Gehenna. The blue it the main thing left to do aside from the bases but I’ll leave that until I’ve finished the Rogue Trader (probably next) so I can do the Escalation adventurers bases all at once.

That’s it for now, thanks for looking!

Thanks Guardling, the orange and white is a sure fire sign she’s not on the side of the inquisition if you ask me. The new Bill and Ted is pretty decent, not on a par with the first two, but certainly worth the rental price

I think you’re on to something with the Baldie GSC thing (wasn’t there a WarCom thing on them shouting too?) and I can certainly see Matt Lucas in the cult!
Not Online!!! wrote:Great orange!
And yeah this thing gives off creepy GSC vibes

Thanks NotOnline, I’m happy how the orange came out, especially since it’s my first attempt at any sort of scale.

A short painting session this week has finished off the Cultist/Sanctioned Psyker. There wasn’t much left, just the blue and base, but I did decide to add another highlight on the gold.

Not my greatest work, but a decent quick paint job that adds to my tally and was more enjoyable than I thought when first looking at the mini.

I also managed a few colours on her Rogue Trader Mate

I’m quite looking forward to this one, her blade leg is super cool, as are the servo skull reloaders and pistols! I plan to heavily plagiarise Dirk Reinecke’s version, hopefully mine looks as cool!

I’ll try to stick to my plan of taking decent photos when minis are done, but Aradia isn’t on her final base yet. Once Neyam is done I’ll do their bases along with the other Escalation explorers. Then I’ll only have the Zoat and Guardian Drones to finish my BSF minis. Don’t worry though, I’ve bought the stls to print terrain for all of the expansions.

The Dice Tower got a coat of varnish on the not Blackstone Fortress bits to try and smooth out the warp and metal bits. It’ll get another coat of filler primer before I hit it with black, white and grey primers.

Thanks for looking!

No problem Dirk, your Rogue Traders are proper cool! The Blackstone terrain is really great, it adds loads to the immersion.

MIL is coming over for half term so it’s going to be minimal painting for the next week or so. I did get a little done tonight though and made some good progress on Neyam. All the metal work got it’s Leadbelcher and the gold; Retributor. A bit of Zandri on her bib, face and skulls. I then slapped on some Agrax;

Whilst waiting for the Agrax to dry I figured I’d get started with The Archivist.

I was kind of following the Midwinter minis guide but changed a couple of steps and was impatient with the thinned yellow. Anyway, it’s a bit too bright for my liking, so I’ll be starting again I think.

Thanks for looking!

Hmmmmm...yeah, he's bright. I am not sure how it is supposed to look at this point, or what the end look will be, but if you are willing to experiment to try to save it, you could try a wash of Druchii Violet with a little Agrax mixed in (maybe 2:1) to knock it back down. RT is still coming along nicely.

He’s toned down quite a bit now he’s dry but I’m still not happy. I’ve been looking at lizard colours and think even the caliban green is too green. Gotta admit I’m kinda tempted to go for an aligator skin effect. If I can pull it off it might be quite cool, but the patterns could make her too busy.
Olthannon wrote:Yeah I think like dark bronze metallics would provide a nice contrast to that skin tone, should look great!

Yep, the darkness of the gold is cool right now, but I am thinking I’ll bling it up like my panthers.

Cheers CB, I’ll try!

Well, I say I’ll try, but have made zero progress on my 2 active projects this week! in my defence work has been MENTAL I’ve been a bit ill and my MIL is over. Not that I’ve anything to complain about compared to current goings on at the Other-side of Europe. Crazy times!

I have however got a few things in motion; the warp gate dice tower has been filler primer, varnished, sanded, filler primer, sanded and now has its grey primer on. I might throw some black on the Blackstone Fortress bit and maybe some white on the warp bit too. As I want it to match the terrain and the warp to have a nice bright green to it.

Continuing the priming I chucked a zenithal prime over the Bill & Ted minis in anticipation of my Speed Paint set arriving, which it now has! Given some of the characters have different ethnicities I tried a few options for quick skin tones;

These guys won’t be jumping to the head of the queue just yet, but they were primed similar to the B&T minis and they have plenty of skin on show! They’re all standing in-front of the paint that did the leg work apart from the bone chap, he’s actually a mix with Fyreslayer as it didn’t look skin like! As you can see they all give a decent mix of skin tones that I can probably use to decent effect on the Bill and Ted stuff.

I’ve also been dreaming up how to create a Techmarine for my Void Panthers from the gunner in my Landraider. I’m thinking his helmet, torso and shoulder pads on a set of Devastator legs might look cool

Hope the skin tone comparison helps, there’ll be more painting next week i reckon. Thanks for looking

Nice Khornate male revue. The Speed Paints seem to do what they say. Beyond the added variety, do you think they offer much over Contrast?

Techmarine idea sounds good to me. Will he be traditionally red?

Yeah, they like to show off those angry boys! To be honest I’ve not much experience of either Contrast or Speed Paint. The little I have used them (My Necrons and the odd bit of flesh and bases for contrast. Tonight’s efforts for Speed Paint) it seems the Speed Paint flows off the brush better, allowing me well to work pretty fast at getting coverage. Despite flowing better, they seem to be thicker and give better coverage by being less blotchy. A highly technical review I know!
Olthannon wrote:Awesome stuff Gobert, I really like how those skin tones look, particularly 2nd left. The techmarine sounds cool as well, good luck with them!

Cheers Olthannon, Guilliman Flesh is pretty nice, the Speed Paint equivalent is slightly pinker. Techmarine will be red I think, though I’m not sure how I’ll get some good bling on him though.

MIL departed this morning, so I got the painting sticks out tonight. Keen to get the Bill & Ted game playable I cracked out the Speed and Contrast Paints. I’ve not really done anything special with them, just slapped them on. The closest to special was mixing different colours and thinning them with Comtrast Medium. Both seemed to work well. Bills Jeans and Mozarts Pantaloons also got a drop of white mixed in. That didn’t work quite so well, but a quick drying of the brush to wick away the thicker parts, then setting the brush to thin the whole lot down to faded Jean colour worked ok. Anyway, you’re near for pics, so here’s the state of my desk

It’s been pretty enjoyable slapping the Speed Paint on and making rapid progress. I reckon another night of painting and they’ll be good to go.

Thanks for looking
