That crackle paint is fantastic! I've been trying to convince myself not to get any for a while, but you tipped me over the edge, and I've just gone for a bit of an eBay haul Really like what you've done with it though - going to add a lot to your terrain!
The zombies look awesome together - great variety in the skin tone. Any chance we could get a shot of them closing in on a beleaguered survivor in some of your beautiful terrain?

Bruticus - I used Shabby Shutters for the above tests, I have some of the clear - that's up for the next set of tests I expect.
vik - A zombie update is a crowded update
Once they'd had a wash only the largest flakes could be peeled off, after a quick spritz with purity seal they're all pretty solid - withstood a drybrushing. And I discovered that rotting flesh is a close match to the shabby shutters
Yeah, I think the stall scene will be the one
The big mek will get more than just DE gubbinz - that was just what was at hand as the concept took shape
Scarp - I'd seen it before, but it was Neil's use of it that made me pop onto ebay myself. I'm hoping it'll add some more texture to the terrain.
Cheers on the zombies - a stranded survivor shot will have to wait till I've done a survivor
Nothing else to add except a few concepts for some more spiky beakies - at this rate I may have to re-open my chaos thread Most of these are really just for testing rust/weathering techniques - there'll be some more crackle going on a few. No set units or load-outs, they're all one-of-a-kinds - or at least that's the plan
May fiddle around with a custom pack for this guy.
Not decided on a right arm for this dude yet - I'm thinking maybe a pointing arm?
Something will happen to that bolt-pistol.
Liked the idea originally, but not convinced by it after a day.
And what good Slaaneshi marine doesn't want a pair of feth-me killer heels of doom?

high heel marine... somehow makes me think of a new barbie^^
the double wielder is sub par as we´ve been spoiled with so many awesome minis from you that the normal gets average and the average gets looked at as sub par... what a dilemma...
Something will happen to that bolt-pistol. LOL..

well... that would work... because mostly of the head and its view... but i need to point out (pun ) that the shaft of that chainaxe is to thick...!

The zombies are coming along nicely. The Thriller Zombie was a nice touch.
Thank you for documenting your crackle experiments. That stuff could come in really handy when working on industrial terrain.

The crackle effect REALLY looks like the photos I've seen of abandoned ex-Soviet bases. It really captures that 'paint peeling off of the wall' look. Bravo!

Fantastic Stuff Monkey! I love the shamblers (Wargames Factory?) And the crackle effect is fantastic! I have some craft-paint variety, but it doesn't work that well! I can see myself doing that to a 4x4' sheet of hardboard to fit into my table as a Wasteland board. The cracks are perfect, because it's exactly like dry ground crackles!

vik - I'm not sure Slaanesh and Barbie is such a good mix - those dolls have no sexy bits you know
Nah, he's sub-par because he's sub-par It was really just the combination of the Templar chained chainswords ( ) with the chained torso that caught my eye, but the pose is not great by any standard. Even though these were supposed to be quick and nasty pieces for weathering/rust experiments I still wanted something with a bit more 'je ne sais quoi'.
Well, it's a bit Imperial looking at the moment isn't it
Yeah, yeah, that was just the nearest bit of tube that was relatively close to what was required - it's not the finished deal by any means. Not that I don't appreciate the heads-up, even if it should be obvious by now that anything I post as a 'concpt' is likely to be something completely different by the time it becomes a 'reality'. And yeah, the pose does just seem to cry out for a pointy hand doesn't it?
neil - No that's Dave's thread your thinking of there...OH, I see, I thought that was 'wiring blog' A bit of colour now and again keeps you lot on your toes I find
Not suggesting it would be a bad thing - just that it would probably be a short-lived thing judging by previous updates
And thank you for pointing out the crackle paints - it was your use of them that persuaded me to grab some. There'll be more tests with them later.
adam - No worries, I can say the same about your blog
If I can keep something like that pace up (which I won't...but..) I could even get a respectable horde up and running...or shambling, whichever. MJ had to be done really, and as I've said, I'll try a better version later.
I can see a whole load of uses for that stuff, going to be fun learning the ins and outs of it.
Brian - It does seem to be great stuff, a very handy addition to the tool kit.
weety - He does. And then he takes them back to his pad and does unspeakable things to them.
Unfortunately, not the kind of unspeakable things they were hoping for..
dstein - They're from the Zombiecide kickstarter (those things have ruined any chance of me having savings for my old age ), but I feel a pull from some of the other companies now - and a good use for some of the non-heroic minis tha I struggle to find homes for.
Yeah, a thinnish coat will produce those fine cracks, I was also thinking that would make some good ground effects - you'll be seeing it on some bases soon no doubt. In fact, some of the zeds got a very thin coat on their bases - doesn't crack but added a bit of extra texture.
So nothing much to report at the moment. I have just started clipping sprues for the two night scythes and the stormtalon I just received, so you can probably expect me to go off on some other strange tangent shortly

Well I was thinking of sending him to Resyk, but after a bit of playing I reckon it'll work if I repose his arms so the swords are almost crossed in front of his body with him looking to the side rather than staring down the length of one outstretched sword. But I feel I may end up hacking at those necron flyers tomorrow night instead We'll see....

vik - Well, the original idea was he was glaring down the sword at his next victim - 'You next!'. Just wasn't feeling it after a while. No aimless chopping here, he's chaosy not orkses
Skalk - I thank you sir. But it was Neil who put me onto the stuff in the first place Shout out to Neil-boy!!
Look forward to seeing what you get up to with it.
vik - Yeah, get on it - we want to see some flaky paint stuff
So clipped the two scythes, the storm-chibi and an assorted selection of part-clipped sprues (mainly valk, chimmy and russ).
Yay! Anuva box o'bitz for da workshop.
And first out of the box we have a concept of some sort of flyer (probably a fighta I'd guess, but you can never be sure where it's going to go at this stage )
Need to find/make some big ol' props for the ends of those wings, maybe see if I can figure out a not-too-messy way of getting the side wings to angle down slightly. Originally the top wing was going to be atop the 'spine' with it heading in it's original direction, but I decided reversing the hull worked slightly better.
Maybe more later....

Well I'd say your Viktorians need some nice dilapidated industrial terrain to fight over Yeah, probably not to everyone's taste I have further cunning plans below...
Decided that angling the wings down isn't a viable idea for this one. The circuit-patterned wing roots are part of the hull pieces - a lot of hacking and covering up to get the effect from there, and drooping the end section just looks broken - in a bad way But also with that hull, angling the wings breaks the lines in a bad way too, so they'll stay straight. However...
Although I like the tri-wing look (there's a lot of three's scattered around Upzag's boyz) I thought I might play with a four-wing look:
And with an eldar cockpit:
So I kinda prefer the stubbier look of the 'talon cockpit, although I like the extra length of the vyper, and in some ways the curves fit better with the wings. I might see if I can dig out a valk cockpit and try that as another option - was toying with a bubble-type cockpit briefly, but I think not.

Agreed. And your upper wing is crooked... and I don't think the propellers are oriented in the same direction...

I like the concept. I too prefer the boxy cabin. Also, if you are going for a curvy look all over then the propellers should probably be curvy and not straight like you have there... Just a thought.

Thanks guys!! I think I'll be going with the four-wing stubby look, maybe just a small collar between the cockpit and main hull.
And when I get round to doing the real propellers, yes, I'll probably do more than just stick some plasticard strips in some blu-tack
Quite likely a variety of styles
I was going to say the same about the dakka too, but now I've been looking at it a while (It's been sat in front of me while I scoff pizza) I think they just need a bit of detailing and they'll be good.

Cheers for the vote of confidence
I'm hoping the curves will fit in alongside the grot-jet:
With bonus valk for size comparison
There'll obviously be a few plates and wires added to the wings.
I was originally thinking of having the dakka on turrets coming from the wing-discs, but that doesn't work so well with the four wing look, and I prefer them in their current placement anyway. I 'm aware it would probably look more 'realistic' with jets rather than props - but that's part of why I went with props I'll have a look about for some after-market aircraft props, I'm not decided yet on 3, 4 or many blades for them, or whether they'll all be the same.
Maybe turn one of those discs into a hatch with a grot peering out..
