What on earth was up with the end of that episode? I know the presence and information on the White Walkers is scarce in the books, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've had any real look at who they are in any medium.

My thoughts on the White Walkers now....

Spoiler:
Well.....White Walkers have to come from somewhere....only male infants being given up...I can understand why Walkers are POed of everyone South of them....no females...

To be fair, at the speed Martin writes his next book won't be out before the series is over.....I wish I was kidding. That being said if they can fix Martin's story telling and make it hold together more intelligently (like they have for the most part with only last weeks rape scene being worse) then I'm all for it.

They certainly broke some new ground with Jon Snow storyline, but I trust the writers.

Regarding all things blue-eyed, I think they're once again showing us something that's implied in the books. This is a constant effort for the TV writers, because of the ever-shifting POV in the books and the information we get second-hand through stories told by characters. Many things are implied rather than clearly spelled out like they'd be with a traditional narrator.

Book spoiler ahead...

Spoiler:
Didn't the story of the Night's King suggest that he was transformed by his Other lady friend?

That also reminds me that I never imagined the Others to be as ugly as the White Walkers in the TV series, but whatevs.

There are two things North of the wall, the Ohers and Wights. Wights are undead, more akin to zombies than wights as usually presented. The Others are more... demonic? Still, I can't help but draw comparisons between the Others and those people "resurrected" by the red priests. Could this be the meaning behind the phrase "song of ice and fire"?

They renamed the Others as "White Walkers" for the show. Personally, I pictured them as more vampiric. And I think that the crinkly-faced, noseless look they chose doesn't help viewers visually distinguish them from the wights. But that's definitely a nitpick on my part.

Honestly, I think it's just an overarching theme across the books without any one specific meaning, since there are so many fire/ice pairings -- places, people, gods, creatures, weapons, etc.

When I initially watched the episode, I was upset at just how much they were changing around. After digesting it though, I don't have an issue with it. Bran's storyline is pretty dull in the books, so I actually don't have much issue with them making it more dramatic and mixing it up. Seeing Coldhands was pretty cool, and I don't think anyone was ready for the last scene of that episode.

Heck no we didn't. We all assume the babies were "eaten" or something to that effect. If you think about it it ties in nicely. Question that perked me now is..what is the history of the Walkers/Others and how far do they go back.

Huh? Where was Coldhands? The Other at the end wasn't him.

That Other might have been someone else, however...

The Reason they changed the "Others" to White-walkers is because of the TV show Lost. In that show the enemy of the main characters are "the others".

Spoiler:
When the White Walker was taking the baby to that teleportation spot did anyone else think of this?

Not before I get my Warhmmer Total War!

Though there could be a compromised with a MMO version of Game of Thrones that is like Mount and Blade with you commanding armies.

Edit: GoT predictions- Bromm takes over the Iron Throne. Or Danarys and Jon hook up to take over most of the world

Now I haven't read Dance of Dragons in case things are fleshed out in that book, but my buddy and I were throwing around crazy theories. We figured obviously the Others have to come from some source. We thought it would be awesomely creepy if the Others are what's left of the (can't remember name- Children of the Forest?), the ones that carved the Weirwoods. They were supposedly wiped out by humans, weren't they? It's been years since I read the first book, where they were mentioned more heavily.

What if instead of dying out, they were actually driven far into the north, where to survive they had to use some sort of dark magic? The Others could be their debased descendants who are going to wage war on the realm of men in a final revenge. One of those great sinister "the real story is lost to myth" story arcs.

Not a bad episode - they almost made Bran and the wall of dullness interesting...........can;wait for Dany 'schildren to burn the whole North..........

They glossed over the taking of Mehereen a bit - Sparticus: Lost and the Damned showed better what likely would have happened- and its was really not pretty as not all the "masters" were men or adults. Otherwise as suual her bit was one of the better bits.

Pity Bron is not in it more.........no Oberon or Tywin either sadly - they were both great last episode.

I've also seen her also in Elementary before, however I've got to admit, I never really did see the appeal of Natalie Dormer until this episode. Which, I admit, is odd.

On another, similar crass note, this episode showed the first full hint of my mates nicknames for Petyr Baelish...

But yeah, it's actually good to see a bit of a departure from the books with Bran's storyline. Aside from the 'big' episodes, I had been feeling a bit unenthused cause well, I'd read it all already. - So it was almost an exercise of box checking for me, as opposed to enjoying the show.

Great episode! It gave me great hope that the show is not afraid to go places that GRRM isn't. Perhaps we'll get actual progression out of Dany rather than 2 seasons in Mereen.

I think based on the way they handled Sansa Pretre that is likely. The showrunners on this have built up quite a bit of good will from me in the way they handled this so far.

Lets hope so - her so called plot in the last few books was terrible.....

Interesting that there seemed to be no mention in the next epsiode of the "rape" scene by either of the two parties.

I dunno, the way they were adressing each other by title and being fairly cold to one another seemed to be reflecting what had happened between them.

Also tyrion when talking to jamie openly states "I wouldnt kill your son" and it almost goes unnnoticed, but I thoough I think thats perhaps the first time jamie has openly admitted it was his son? (could be wrong)

Agreed. It's one of the reasons I'm done with the books. After 15 years we're pretty much where we were at after the original 3 books but with Dany.....not being Dany. I'll watch the show for the ending of what started as one of the greatest fantasy series I'd ever read and wipe my hands of it afterward. I'll keep reading authors who understand how to move forward and develop characters

And as for the rape scene not being mentioned I feel that leads it more to being not a rape scene. If Cersie felt she had been raped she wouldn't be receiving him in her chambers, commander of the kings guard or no. Also notice that the coldness comes in after she starts discussing their little brother and basically accusing Jaime of being a traitor.
