I really like the idea of Sniper, because it gives the Sisters something they don't already have, and, importantly, it gives them a way to bring down high-toughness beasties without just spamming meltaguns or hoping to get lucky with an unwieldy meltabomb attack. Importantly, gargantuan creatures are only wounded on a 6+ by poison, but Sniper and Fleshbane work normally, so this would be outstanding for forcing a bunch of saves on a Wraithknight or Heirodule. As a beneficial side effect, you also get a squad that can easily pick the special weapons out of an enemy unit. This all comes with a unit that would have enough volume of fire to still be a threat even after their AoF is spent.

Unfortunately Sniper only wounds GMC's on a 6+, just like Poison. Wraithknights would be all but immune. Just having a quick look through the fandex, there doesn't seem to be anything that address Wraithknights other than Melta/Exorcist spam. Though to be fair, aside from Grav Cannons, there aren't really many things in the game that can effectively deal with them.

Melta/Exorcist spam and superheavies are pretty much it, yeah. There aren't many Destroyer weapons in this 'dex: Knight Angelus and Penitent Titan have D melee weapons, Battle Chapel has Vortex Missiles.

Alternatively, since I don't think the Wraightknight has Hit & Run, you could tarpit it with 50 Frateris Rabble backed by a couple of Priests to keep them Fearless and to reroll their failed saves. Or better yet, 20 Frateris Bikers and 2 Priests on Frateris Bikes (280 something points?*), since that's a tarpit that might actually be able to catch a Wraightknight. And then reenact the "Rohirrim versus Mumakil" battle from The Return of the King.

* I appear to have accidentally cut the option for Priests to ride bikes. Edit coming up....

Between

The main problem with that is the Stomp attacks cutting straight through whole mobs of them at a time.

Out of curiosity, where does it say that? It did in 6th edition - anything that wounded on a fixed number, did so on a 6+ only - but in 7th that stipulation seems to only apply to Poison. It reads to me like Fleshbane and Sniper work normally, though I'll admit I might be reading it wrong.

The Gargantuan Creature section mentions that as part of the rules of a Gargantuan Creature (well at least I was pretty sure it did, at work so can't check but now you've made me less certain)...

Well I'm not sure a 775pt or 3,000pt LoW is exactly a counter lol. Knights are also not particularly effective either - you don't have a point cost on yours, but I assume its priced at least roughly 400pts? So they're more expensive, have no Ranged Str, have less attacks and a have lower initiative than Wraithknights, so even in CC they stand a decent chance of getting blown up before they can swing.

Hordes have their own weaknesses too, especially ones that are relying on a key model to hold it together. It's not so much that Stomp attacks can hoe through mobs, its that the wording of the rule makes it specifically targets models under the blast marker (rather than generating hits on the unit). Which means you can just place the Stomp over the Priest and basically make it save or die - or just get removed from play if the Stomp roll is a 6.

Huh. Can you use Look Out, Sir against Stomps?

Whoops, Knight Angelus is supposed to be 525 points (as per this post). Another edit coming...

Playtest feedback regarding Vigils - something I had completely missed. If they don't move, their shooting attacks count as Twin-Linked. This effectively gives their template weapons Shred (TL templates re-roll To Wound), and they can take five template weapons (four flamers, hand flamer or combi-flamer). Behind a Promethium Relay Pipeline, with an AoF giving it Sniper, that's incredibly nasty. Essentially, Poisoned, Rending, Shred, Ignores Cover (and Torrent from the pipeline).

This came up in three games - against Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Daemons and Tyranids. Admittedly, the last two tend to be great flamer targets, but it still came out as "loss on points v. CSM, win on points v. CD, win by tabling vs 'nids"

I'd propose amending that as follows:

Infallible Aim
As the supreme markswomen of the Sisterhood, the Vigils can assume a posture of superhuman stillness as they focus on a crucial target -- at the expense of tactical flexibility.
If a Vigil model does not move in the Movement Phase, all her shooting attacks in the subsequent Shooting Phase may re-roll failed To-Hit rolls. She may not then charge in the Assault Phase.

Functionally the same, for bolters, meltas, krak grenades, but no more shredding flamers.

I also thought of "Four other Vigils may replace their boltguns with items from the Special Weapons list." with "Any Vigil may replace her boltgun with a storm bolter. - 5pts" and "Any Vigil may replace her boltgun with a combi-flamer, combi-melta, combi-plasma or Condemnor boltgun - 10 pts", but I'm not sure. It does make them feel less like Dominions - but OTOH, more like Sternguard. Special issue ammo was something we also noodled on, but did not playtest. Our back-of-the-envelope ideas were as follows:

Kraken Bolts - as C:SM (30" S4 AP4 Rapid-Fire)
Impact Rounds: 24" S6 AP- Heavy 1, Spalling. (Spalling - on a roll of 6 on an armour penetration roll, add an additional D3, as Rending. These rounds may inflict only glancing hits. The idea is only glance, but glance almost anything.)
Fragmentation Rounds: 18" S3 AP5, Rapid-fire Pinning
Brightflash Rounds: 12" S2 AP- Rapid-fire Blind

You could take one and only one of these, 10 pts per unit, and they cannot be fired from storm bolters. (Mostly because Sternguard can't.)

I'd want to test that one, but they all seem reasonable.

Great playtest feedback, thanks. I had forgotten how nasty TL is on flamers.

Since every proper codex needs introductory fiction, I've written some for this one: Army of Minerva - A Sister Ginevra Story.

Looks like a nifty conversion of a Russian KV-2 heavy tank.

And here we have the whole fandex/expandex in a PDF, complete with inspirational quotations and introductory fiction and even a tiny dash of artwork.

Warning before printing: It's 65 pages. Also my "Save As PDF" feature erased my page numbers for some reason, so don't print it and then drop it....
