Well finished at $951,029, I think we could have made it to $1,000,000 with another goal.

*sigh* better start putting 40K stuff on eBay...

Looks like there are a few stragglers flowing in. Total now at $951,254. Was hoping it would break $1,000,000. Still congrats to everyone at Studio McVey and CMoN. In the last two months CMoN has effectively raised over 1.5 million on two games. Those are insane numbers. I just hope the games turn out good and everyone who bought it will enjoy it.

Might as well bring it up since I know someone will sooner or later. These are numbers that companies like GW and PP can't ignore. These numbers are equal to a percent or two of GW's revenue (think their annual is $120 mil). And this is effectively only a preorder. There will be additional revenue to come one the games hit the store. Compare the excitement these games generated to the whimper that was Dreadfleet (I still liked it though) and the lead balloon that is Level 7.

I would consider this a textbook example of how to have a successful kickstarter.
1. Company has a established track record for good quality products.
2. Good variety of options to allow everyone to participate, included some big spender items that can make it shoot up fast.
3. Perceived bargains on higher tier items to encourage higher contributions.
4. Receptive to feedback from backers.
5. Continuously keeping the buzz going and adding items to lure previous backers from contributing more.

I think it might take a while, if it ever happens, as Flames of War has just recently gotten its own section, and I think it probably has a larger following on Dakka than SW, since SW is not even out yet.

It is also a board game, and no board games have their own sections currently

But if the support shown on Dakka for the Kickstarter keeps up, I wouldn't be too suprised if there was a SW section.

Okay, crap. I pledged $125 and meant to get Biohazard and a couple of the extra figures...but I misclicked and actually selected Quarantine Zone.

Is there any way I can correct this?

GAH! :(

Edit: Okay, the nice people at CMON say it is not a problem :0)

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I received an email about the end of the project, thought I would post it here as no-one else has yet!

What a ride!

The last month has been one of the craziest of my whole life. 37 days ago I was nervous that we were going to end up looking pretty foolish when no one backed our project .- It seems silly to say that now, but after you have been working on something so hard, for so long - you tend not to be able to see it clearly anymore. I was confident that we had a strong product - but the real test comes when you see if anyone is prepared to buy it or not. Well you certainly did that!

Now we're officially the #1 funded board game ever on Kickstarter - and even typing that seems unreal!

One of the things I'm most proud of in this whole process is the comments section. When you look at most projects, even successful ones - the number of comments is rarely higher than the number of backers. Usually it's far lower. On Sedition Wars, there are well over three times as many comments as backers. That means we have already build a community around this product - and that excites me more than I can tell you. It's the community that will dictate the future of the game - if you guys don't engage with what we are doing and with each other - it won't last long. It's still early days, but we're off to a flying start.

Let's keep it rolling! If you haven't already - go to http://studiomcvey.com/forums/ and sign up. We're just a small forum right now, but we have grown considerably since the Kickstarter began, and we hope to grow even more.

The last thing for me to say (before I fall down and sleep for a month), is THANK YOU! There are people without whom this game wouldn't exist (Rob, Ali, David and Chern - I'm looking at you), but it would be dead in the water if it wasn't for the people who took a risk and backed a brand new game they had never seen before.

I'm truly humbled by your support.

Seems like they created a 2nd wave by defacto- most of the optional figures come out in March. Considering how many Vanguard upgrades there are, it makes me wonder what they're going to do to the Strain to keep them competitive. 3 flavors of heavy walkers + upgraded heroes = tough competition.

They will probably just cost a ton of points to field, so you will have a few heavy walkers/ upgraded heroes against a huge amount of strain.

The miniature quality in this game looks like it will crap on most of the stuff you get in 98% of board games by a country mile.

To be fair, for a lot of those guys miniatures are just nicely sculpted playing pieces. Like the ones you get with RIsk, Axis and Allies or even Last Night on Earth. Well, except you have to base them and have minor assembly, which is a headache when you just want to sit down and play. Not for me of course, but devil's advocating, and it's a fair enough perspective for boardgamers.

Wow.. I was not expecting that.

With their pledge manager, I think they have an excellent chance of hitting 1 million from all of the people adding in extra heroes, scenery, suits, and so forth over the next month..

Automatically Appended Next Post:
hmm.... with (probably) a month to manage my pledge, do I go from 2x Biohazard to 3x?

It's a lot of stuff for another $105 (inc int shipping)

I have to agree with scipio on this. Different groups have different priorities. I would wager that most of the people on the BGG forums are just looking for a game right out of the box. I've seen posts where people complain about having too many cardboard pieces to pop out, so to have to buy glue, cut pieces out of sprues, etc. It would be like me ordering a pizza and someone shows up with all the ingredients in a box for me make and cook.

I'm not trying defend them. They should know enough to realize that the target audience is miniature gamers who have higher demands on the quality of the miniatures and are willing to pay a premium, and for us this box set is an unbelievable deal.

As long as their offer to pay by Paypal is still open, I'm in for Biohazard, Opticamo and Ramirez. That's $165 for 57 humans, 8 drones and 53 Strain. I'll keep the Strain from the base game, but hopefully I'll be able to sell the rest.

To be fair:
Those guys on BBG ranting were not the majority but the usual group of idiots.

Just follow their post history. Also they tried to find fault with the game wherever possible.

It went like this

> The game is a ruse since they do not show us all the rules
- Company goes into details why they can´t post the full text, but answer all the questions asked in detail.
> The game is still a ruse and we are entiteld to full rules, else it is a ruse
> Also the game is not finished according to their own words, so it must be a ruse.
- Only layout is not finished, game itself is already gold.
> It is still a ruse since we have to put together the miniatures, buy paints, etc.
- Minis are quite simple to put together, etc.
> It is still a ruse since their stretch goals are intended to get more money from us.
- Pay as much as you want, noone forces you to buy them and they are not necessary for the game.
> They are infringing IP of other people and cause of this it is a ruse.
- No it is an hommage which is quite standard in this industry and Joss and others at several instances have even encouraged folks to build hommages into their games.

And it goes on and on.
That´s not a different taste, but someone who wants to find fault no matter what.

I am working in the gaming industry on TT and board games and I would steer miles away from such guys since they are nothing but trouble.

I would be very sad though if kickstarter turned into just a way for established companies to launch a new product risk-free.
