Aduro, I am hoping you will not mind to much if I steal the designs for your Tervigon. I am thinking that design with some sort of "Turret" would make a great T. Fex.

Don't mind at all, it's not like I really made most of it, it's pretty much GW stuff rearranged. Just, you know, don't try to take credit for the design.

Third carapace plate done, just one more to go. I realized the final carapace plate is going to do very little in the way of cover up the last bit of gappage between the top and bottom halves of the thorax, so I put in a little bit of random detail to take up the space. I'll see what is left expoded and how it looks when the carapace is finished and decide if I need to do more there or not.
Old `Nid fluff on common traits and biology, the same that says all `Nids have six limbs, also said they all have five armor plates on their head. I do like that kind of fluff and will generally stick to it, and thus as I had to cut off his fifth head plate so the head can fit at the angle it's currently at, I gave him a new first armor plate on the front end.
One thing I considered early on was to cut off the existing vents and make taller ones to replace them. Given my love for his profile (could make a drinking game out of how many times I say that) I decided to stick with the existing short ones and went ahead and put on the second halves for all of them. I should have this thing finished tonight I think!
When the plastic Fex kit first came out, I got a pair of them, with the intention of making the one into the Hive Tyrant that's seen earlier on in this thread. To make it and the Fex more divergent in appearance, I widened the Fex thorax in the same way as the picture I added last night. I started to get back into my `Nids around August/September of last year, and decided the Fex wasn't big enough yet. I disassembled it and went about further cutting it up to make it bigger yet, and that's stage two here of biggerizing the Fex thorax. Still need to cut up his legs and tail.

Alright, baring myself or someone else seeing some oversight or something that needs to be corrected, I do believe Tervie's all finished. It's not quite how I pictured it starting out, but I like the way it all worked out in the end. I really love the more unique quadruped look that it has, and it's easily divergent from a Fex or T-Fex appearance. Going to leave him off his base to prime him, but I'll glue him back on to paint. Plenty of time left to have him all painted up for the tournament this weekend as well, which means I can focus the remaining time on T-Fex2 and maybe get that somewhere close to done in time as well.

Yet another idea that's going to get yoinked. This is the first time I see someone use of 2 'hoof legs' and it definitely gives the model a very lithe and mean look, in spite of it's bulk. You GS skills are definitely shining with that work on replicating the internal ribbing.
I hate to point this out but what are you going to do with the 3 spiky mounting holes near the top of the tail. Are you going to file them down and touch up with Green or leave them as is? It's a small detail but after all the great work you've done on this model it would be a shame to leave those unfinished.
Can't wait to see

I've thought about ways to fill the holes in, but I really just don't think I need to. While the inside is a nice round socket, the outside is sculpted up and uneven and detailed. They're nice and symmetrical with three on each side of the thorax and tail. The legs would get in the way of putting any kind of detail like the spikes in them. I think that if you didn't know something was meant to go in them, you wouldn't really notice them as being wrong, just another detail, as he's also got holes along the side of his head and down the length of his tail.

True, the holes on the tail do somewhat echo the 3 on the side of the skull.
Seeing as how a lot of us here know something would actually go in there how about a quick solution (not that you need one of course)
Drill them out slightly with a small bit to make them about the same depth as the ones of the head and then round off the rim for a fine fine or detailing X-acto blade.
Fluff-wise you could say that they are extra breathing holes since the beast has extra lung capacity, much like dinosaurs had extra air bladders spread out throughout their bodies.
Cheers,

Awesome model. I recommend putting a package of pictures and text together and mailing it to GW so their sculptures know how to do it!

You know, if they took my design and had me sign a piece of paper forfeiting my rights to it, in return for a bunch of free swag, I think I'd be fine with that. It would be awesome if they credited me with maybe an article in White Dwarf, but how cool would it be to know you made something so good that they felt they had to use it?

I'd use a Trygon for a harpy for sure. Doesn't the fluff even say they look like winged Trygons? I wouldn't cut the thorax to do it, leave it standard so the thicker portion is by the front shoulders for flight power, but yeah. Now if only Harpies were more fieldable...

That's the trick ain't it? I know I want to make at least one more for myself, and I've gotten some interest in making a few for others as well. I know I'd like to do one rearing up to bring her weight down, and another one in the process of pushing out a Gaunt.
Anyways, I just got done getting it all painted and washed. Figure I'll go watch some of the shows I recorded today and give it a chance to dry some and lower the high shine and then I'll get some pictures up before bed. And here she is, all finished up. Yes, I have now decided Tervie is a she and not a he. I still need work on my Wash technique, mostly in the large flat areas where odd smears make for bad appearances. Otherwise I think she turned out real nice.
