Thanks, and borrow away! Although, once you get one, the model will literally "come alive" and you'll most likely end up with something different once you start playing with it.

The body comes by itself- head, torso, waist, hips, upper legs, knee pads, shins, and two different kinds of feet (flat and slight toe-tilt). The powerfist comes with a shoulder, upper arm, elbow component, forearm, wrist/hand, individual fingers (to make both left/right arms), and storm bolter/flamers for the inner hand. It also comes with a flamer can or bolt-ammo boxes to sling underneath. The lasercannon arm is the shoulder, upper arm, and lascannon only.

Different heads, you say? Could you post a link? I'd like to see that...

Lol... awesome. I remember that scene as well. My bro got me the whole set as a graphic novel (rather, got it for himself, and passed it on later... thanks, bro!) and yea... that art is simply amazing, especially as I thought of what they'd look like as real people when I was just a kid.

I was hoping for the flamer palm as standard but none of the FW pics really showed it (the angles were of on the Blood Angel pics). Thanks for the rundown! Here's a pic from the Games Day line up that shows the different head I noticed. I doubt it'll be a part of the new arm kits but it could just be a quick swap with a furioso or ven dread plastic kit head or maybe a part of the more involved mortis kit.

@ Warboss' post and everyone else... what the is that???

Dude, that's making me jealous right now. I suggest waiting a bit. If it was at Gamesday, that most likely means they're making those pieces. And that makes my 1K son dread obsolete, especially since he's GLUED and PINNED. It comes to mind that they were raving over the autocannons in their biggest book (and somewhat biggest disappointment). And now I have a veteran brother without any said weapons. Bollocks.

I'm definitely a Vega at heart...

All about the look Pre-Heresy Sons rule. Period. Hands down, they've got the coolest stylings aside from the Custodoes. The others seem to me like carbon copies in different colors- no offense to other PH brothers out there. m(_ _)m

However, whether it was the writing or the overall feel for them, I'm more in love with the speed and ferocity of the SWs than anything else. (first, and last time I'll admit it, BT_Mask)

Balls... that means I have to buy ANOTHER one...

Work on the contemptor is slowing down for now due to school deadlines and work... that, and I don't have his base yet from Scibor (shipped out today, probably come in 2 weeks).

I might start doing detail work in GS... we'll see. Expect an update to the Pimp My Wizard blog and/or this one this Sunday!

I still like the first Contemptor Dread better with just two close combat arms. I think, since I will be using them as PsyRifilemen Dreads I will just magnetize a four gun backpack on them. Or represent a Psychic attack from them that counts as two auto cannons...

Maybe replace the bolter ammo/fuel canisters with Autocannon ammo drums and have the noses/barrels of Autocannons coming out of the palms?

Hmm... that's an interesting idea. For myself, I'm leaving the fuel canister off. I'd like to think that the more sturdy versions wouldn't have cans of flammable liquid on the OUTSIDE of an armored shell.

@ veritechc - I think that'd be pretty sweet, seeing one with hands and rails of 4 guns on his back... the missles are hot, but if properly put down, that sucker'll look like a walking Hydra tank. HAWT.

The cold reaches of space

Good morning everyone, and thanks for waiting. Just finished the last day of live classes, and one more week (read- not too many updates after this one this week ) before I totally finish this round. That’ll give me around 3 weeks of freedom to do some serious modeling and finally finish all my peripheral hobby projects, or at least the ones with the nearing deadlines.

Yesterday was supposed to be a day of full hobbying, but after a few hours, I had an idea to call my cousin and download SM Killteam to relax on my first day off in… 3 weeks? Great game for 800 MS points.

Anyways, here was my progress before he came by.

First was the final construction on two of the initial 10 Sons. For one, I wanted the new helmet, and the other, I wanted an non-helmet. Ok, I’m lying here. Actually, I glued the same helmet crest you saw before to his helmet. After much cursing, I found the bald-mask head. But now, I’ve got to be careful, as he’s looking dangerously like a PH World Eater, pre-paint job.

Guy with the new crest.

Work on New Crest’s CC weapon. The pin runs through the handle into the blade, and all the way through his hand. Actually, every single one of the Sons is a franken-pin job. Heads, both shoulders, elbows/wrists if I reposition them, waist, and legs/knees if I repositioned those. And the pic below that, you can see some of the pin job, without the GS.

And here he is, in his GS glory, still minus his loin cloth and shoulder pads.

Since I had extra GS, I decided to start working on the Contemptor’s iconography. I took a bit of GS and flattened it into a pancake. I’ll definitely be doing sanding and cutting it into even sharper relief.

And the beetle cut into shape… again, it’ll be cleaned. I’ll also be adding legs to the sides of it out of GS “arrows”. In addition, I forgot to take the most recent picture, which was GS work on the shoulder pads, giving them rims, and additional detail. If I have time tonight, I might continue work, but that “school” thing… always getting in the way.

Thanks for stopping by- comments and critiques are always welcome!

Thank you DijnsK, for your honest feedback! I'll just throw myself off a cliff now...

Jus kiddin'. I agree. It's a learning process, and I haven't used this much GS since... forever, actually. For the contemptor, I ripped off the GS, as I want it smaller to fit legs and other details on that front plate last night. As for the other guys... it's a learning curve. And they're not going to stop at 10 guys, so the later figures should be much better. I'm not sure if I'm going to go more intricate with the designs, but perhaps... something just came to mind.

Thanks for watching and stay tuned!

Good morning! Just a mini update before I head out for work. I finished up my hw a bit early yesterday night and decided to complete the GS work on one of the first set of 10 Sons, as well as completely assemble on the other.

Not too many changes, although he still looks very World-Eater-ish to me… but I’m sure that’ll change with the paint job. I’ll definitely want a more brownish-yellow-olive skin tone for this guy. Also thinking of doing something to his rebreather mask… make it more 1K-ish… nothing comes immediately to mind. Any ideas?

The final and second “leader” of the first 10 Sons. I gave him a Khopesh and an old Mordheim scroll accessory I found. The angle on the scroll-arm isn’t exactly what I wanted, but it’ll serve. I also wanted to do a bit of modification to his mask. I started with the nose-stripe to cut and sand to final shape, and I’ll be filling in his vents to make solid faceplate for free-hand egyptian designs along the jawline/corners.

And finally, I’m sending my previously painted Sons and the Flesh-Changed into a Pinesol bath. That makes a total of... 5 guys? I wasn’t able to find Simple Green at my nearby Walmart, so I’m going to check when I head home to the parental units’ house in the suburbs, as they also have a Walmart near them. I’m just afraid of what it’ll do to the GS work that I’ve already done on them… but if I have to do it again, I’ll do it.

The Emp's champ hasn't been touched yet, but I'm going to forego the cape (as I like the backskirt thingy he has) and now... ponytail, psychic hood... hmm...

As soon as they’re finished… and starting Sunday morning… assembly will be totally finished, I'll be on a short break from school (but not work) and will be focusing on painting ALL of these guys.

Stay tuned for painted pics! (relatively soon)

Looks cool, the non-helmetted 1k-son doesn't look too Khornate.

Remember not all of them are psykers infact a lot of them aren't, which is why there are so many rubric marines (or so I am led to believe)

If you feel that he is a bit too aggressive, why not try and sculpt some flames somewhere and make him one of the pyrae (flame specialist psykers) as they are said to be the most aggressive and impetuous of the 1k-sons.

It may require a resculpt but remove the bolter and sculpt flames on his hand or add flames to his weapon.... then you could use him as your flamer carrying special weapon dude

Or leave him as he is and do stylised flames on his armour to denote which of the enclaves or sorcerous groups he is from (pyrae, corvidae etc....)

Just at thought.... looking forward to seeing how the painting goes.

Great idea! I'm actually thinking of making him one of the Pyrae squadron (and denoting another minimum 4 marines) to follow his lead. Won't change anything game-wise, but yea. Flames along the blade (or rather, on his fist and somewhat going onto his blade) might actually be a cool project to "up the game" so to speak.

Brian, glad you're enjoying the show. This promises to be one of the most expensive and (hopefully) coolest projects I've ever done. Being reminded every single guy is worth an arseload of cash keeps me trying to make them all as best as I can (except for the last guy, who disappoints me somewhat... but still). It'll grow slowly, but surely.

And yes, I'll be checking 2 nearby Home Depot stores near me... I've heard good things about the Simple Green. In the meanwhile, in about an hour and half, I'll be checking the brothers and scrubbing them into near-newness.

Thanks all for stopping by. Like what you see? Hate it so much you want to strangle me for destroying a beautiful idea??

Lol, yes it'll grow on you... thats what my wife used to say, to which my reply was grow on me? Yes grow on me like Athlete's Foot.

Everything is looking really cool so far, you could use corvidae as devaststor leaders maybe as I think the corvidae had the power to sense into the future.... you could use his corvidae power as the Dev's signum

Actually the different cults powers could be used to represent different aspects of squad leaders or special troopers within units.

Will you be having any warrior robot maniples?

Btw forgot to ask, have you read Thousand Sons yet?

LOL... yikes... I want it to grow on me... but not that bad...

I'm still trying to figure out the squad, and perhaps you could help me answer this-

I actually have read Thousand Sons, and was somewhat disappointed at the "lack of ferocity" they displayed. I'm probably more SW than anything else, but I felt they were a bit weak in the whole SMs-kill-everything-they-see-with-ease department. Also, do they ever work alone? (aside from the Titan-riding Pyrae leader) In the end, their defense was all in unison, all kine-shielders together as one, teams of prognosticators divining enemy paths, etc. Or at least, that's what I got from them...

As to robot maniples, I read that in the book... one guy controlling a team of automatons... not sure. If I go GK with these guys, I don't know if there's a place for them, unless I use Mordrak and his Ghost Knights (aka that guy and his maniples). If I went standard SM, it would be cool to use them as Scouts, and some unknown Scout Sergeant filling in as "that guy" (because I totally don't know his name at the moment)

The reason that the Thousand Sons struggled was because A) They were caught with their pants down (how they didnt foresee it I do not know).
B) Because Russ brought the custodes and also the sisters of silence with him, the sisters are null maidens and they stopped the T-Sons using their psychic powers, which instantly put them at a disadvantage.

I also got the impression that many of the T-Sons had become over reliant on their powers rather than using their more physical attributes and therefore they were a bit rusty at proper physical hand to hand fighting. They were stillvery formidable in their own way, after all each legionnes astartes seemed to have some form of speciality and employed it to deadly effect, but when robbed of their primary method of making war they were always struggling.

In age of darkness there is a small group of Thousan sons who were working away from the main chapter.

Unaware of what transpired on Prospero they returned to find Prospero destroyed... then found themselves hunted by the World Eaters as Horus was still not 100% sure of their loyalty. The squad was led by Kharn, and the T-son shattered his shattered hi sanity before escaping them.... only to mutter something which becomes a chapters motto.

Also in one of the worst of the HH series a Thousand Son Mhotep (I think, I havent read the book for a while or have it with me). Was captain of a vessel, which was destroyed trying to stop the Word Bearers. He then joined the Ultramarines a World Eater and a Space wolf to attack the aforementioned Word Bearers... he was also using his psyker powers in secret because it was after the Nikeae incident.

Hope this helps

Ah yes, I remember that one with Mhotep in one of the earlier books in the HH series. I thought he was quite cool... the whole fight of the wills against the enemy (some sort of daemon, I believe) was really cool.

I haven't read the other books where the World Eaters come to Prospero, but that seems like an exciting scene. Either way, I like them- looks first, for my guys, then combat prowess (however crappy they might be).

Thanks though, I'll look into my cousin's library to see if he has that book you're talking about!

I was also under the impression that the different cults were mixed together so that the squads would be more tactically flexible, so for example the kine shielder would be the dude with the stave, the pyrae the guy with the flamer, the prognosticator as justicar etc..... I also remember that at certain times the different cults would be in ascendency, so their powers could obviously wax and wanne a lot.

Basically the Wolves have destroyed Prospero and believing all T-Sons gone leave, only to be followed by the slightly crazed World Eaters who are looking for a magi artefact and also to kill any T-SOns because their loyalty is not 100% confirmed to the Warmaster (plus we all know how much they hate magick). Was a good read.

Age of Darkness is the newest HH book, the story is called Rebirth

The cold reaches of space

@Dantay_xv - Thanks! I appreciate the info. I'll be hitting up my cousin to see if he's got that in his collection. Methinks he does.

Welcome back to another installment and sorry about the long wait. My Scibor 60mm Egyptian base came Thursday last week, but MBA finals were on-going. I managed to finish up construction and will start GS work on the unit for the next 3 weeks without having to worry about incoming school projects. Work, however, is another matter.

STOP! In the naaaame of luuuuv... before you break mah heart! Er... wait, what? A whole view of the body as assembled. I like how the base has a lot of curvature- I've modelled his legs to look like he's bracing for a monster shot of aetheric (burning napalm?) power.

A shot of his new beetle symbol. It sticks out quite a bit more, and the legs (to be added) will also have that 3d symbol quality. I'm not sure if I'll keep this one, but I wanted to test texture on the shell, and I'm actually liking it, so I'll be doing clean-up tonight and adding more.

Other attachments will be to add a rim around the shoulder pads (see pg 2 of this blog for Contemptor concept pics, courtesy of Dantay), detailing for his head and a unique headpiece, plus symbols on his knees. I will probably add small pennants on his lascannons, but I'm not sure about a loin-cloth... I wouldn't know where to add it so it looks natural, and wouldn't look like it would start binding up in his leg mechanics.

He's got a lot of flat surfaces, and cost quite a pretty penny. Might as well detail him up and make him worth the cash. Thanks for stopping by- comments and critiques are always welcome.
