Hmm... not sure. I think another 1K sons maker on Dakka, Proteus (sp?), is using them. Last time I checked they looked pretty cool...? But my main reason for not including them is simply added cost.

True... if I had the know-how and the time... MBA, family life, and fulltime really cut into the time to gather up the materials to do it... as opposed just ordering and painting up. At some point, yes... perhaps next year, when my studies are completed?

Welcome to the madness! I appreciate the comment, and I too, cannot wait to see a whole squad painted up. Hopefully they meet with your (and my own) satisfaction!

Thanks for stopping by! Love it? Hate it? Let me know!

Thanks for stopping by and glad you like them! Enjoy the update below!

--------------

Good afternoon everyone, and sorry to keep you waiting! My grad school has started up and taken away a lot of my hobby time, but I managed to sneek some in between studies. This guy is almost ready for undercoat and painting... so excited! Haven't done a large mini in a while, and after this guy is out of the way, I might pick up another with the Kepheres-pattern Assault Cannons for arms to convert as it's brother unit!

Front view: Put a few scarabs and a cartouche on his leg, plus striped some GS on his shoulderpads, to mimic the original Contemptor Dread art (see page 2 of this blog for examples!) I'll be adding studs to them after it cures and I do a bit more sanding.

Side/Back view: I finally found a use for these small shield-thingys from the Scibor Egyptian Accessories sprue. I've got the wadjet on this side, and on the other, I'll be using the "Spider" pattern shield, with the legs cut off to make a simple scarab shield.

Front view 2: And here's the chest scarab with a bit more detailing. Waited til it dried before adding GS for the legs... now waiting for these ones to dry before cutting them into shape and shaving them down.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get to work on this soon. Depends on how quickly I can finish my assignments, I guess? Earliest, sometime towards the end of this week. Latest, Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning! Thanks for stopping by! Comments and critiques are always welcome!

LOL, thanks to the PMW comp, yea? It was great practice.

As for this guy, I just studded his shoulder pads... primed, and will be airbrushing some shadows onto him. Update tonight or early tomorrow morning! Thanks for stopping by!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just one more before I go to sleep... whatever I finished in-between finance and marketing reading/homework...

I decided to give him the beetle-tines... as the dread would NOT be very Thousand Son-like without them... As it was a bit larger, I felt like doing a bit of detailing on his ornament- that's the start of it.

Using one of the "Spider" shields from Scibor. I cut off the legs, and covered the damage with a thin layer of superglue. My concern is the detail isn't deep enough anymore, and wasn't deep from the very beginning, but still. I'll just have to see, I guess?

Another close-up of his tines. This actually isn't the last one, either. I managed to make the upper decoration a diamond... and a setting, if that came out...

Primed and ready to go! - Told you I studded his pads. That was a to do, and I don't look forward to doin that again... I might just give in and get plasticard rod for the next one.

Very nice, the helmet I really like

How did you stud his pads this time?

Thanks, I think so too. I'm going with the flow of the Iron Armor- Studs and helmet ornaments. Now, hopefully the colors come together as well as to "fit in" with his smaller bros.

So sad... but I'm already thinking about my second Contemptor w/ Assault Cannons... I've got bunch of conversions planned for him...

tipios wrote:Very nice, the helmet I really like

Thank ye, kindly! The "fatter" helmet thing looks kinda cool on him, although I wasn't sure how I was going to do his, or even resize...

As for the studs, I took a lesson from the PMW group's mentors and used extra GS rolled into sausage. I let it dry and started cutting them and placing them with dabs of glue and tweezers... Problem was, at 5:30AM, I don't cut as neatly as I should or at a perfectly downward angle... so there was a bit of fine-sanding to do afterward.

And should I keep you guys going thinking this guy is all dandy...? He's got a dark secret (and no, not a cool one like he transforms or he's the Dark Knight underneath the armor...)... or should I keep you guys going a bit longer til he's finally finished? The sharp ones of you commentators and will notice that I only capture the image from certain angles... Explanation, scathing personal comments and full pictorial once he's finished.

@Vit - Nah... like I said, it's kind of a bogus dark secret... which I'll keep til' the end, I suppose.

@Briancj - LOL, I wish it were something that cool!

Anyways, continuing with the work... before I have to get to my real work... aka finance studies. Blaaah....

Took a bit of time after work to put some AB shadows on him.

And finally, starting up the metal. Coat of Boltgun metal before slathering on the Badab Black wash. I'll be adding a bit of tinge with watered down Gryphonne Sepia for my next session.

Right now, I feel there's a bit too much metal on him. I'll be doing his hip and knee gears, elbow/knee pads, and the skulls on his knuckles in gold (or alternate scheme gold fist with white skulls on it...) in addition to the standard gold accessories. The lascannons will probably be black for the detailing, and I might even try OSL on the power-coil areas towards the base of the barrels.

Does anyone know how to get the bronze burned melta nozzle look? I'm thinking of doing that for his smoke-stacks and palm-flamer...

Anyways, thanks for stopping by! Comments and critiques always welcome!
