Not a problem. It's good to see new people here. (And no, I won't start going into creaky knees mode and starting sentences with "back in my day..." ) You and me both- I've loved the look of the Thousand Sons since I first started the hobby in 1662... er... whenever I started... a decade ago? Yea, whatever. Something like that.

There are bunch of 1K sons out there on this one- most within a page or two of the P&M Blogs by some other folks if you like to see all of our takes on them!

Dude, how did i lose this thread!?? Could have sworn i subscribed right at the beginning!

Still, your making good progress, i can already see your GSing improving with continued use. ANd dont forget, small increments of progress is a whole lot better than none at all!

As for GS tips, did you pick up colour shapers in the end? Royal sovereign size 2 clay shapers are the ones i (and many others i believe) use. Fro seals, if you roll it out thin onto a bit of see through plastic sheet, and let it almost cure it becomes very easy to make it look like paper

Hey! Thanks for stopping by Vit! I've picked up a set of super-small colour shapers (maker escapes my mind at the moment) and I gotta say, they're friggin' amazing. I love the play in the silicon blades that helps make the scarabs easy. Now I use a combination of hobby knife, the shapers, and the metal tools, although the metal tools have fallen by the wayside when the shapers came in... Great buy, great recommendation.

And don't trip about the thread- I'm not surprised, actually. There are about 5 or 6 of us Sons out there... each are awesome in their own right.

Stay tuned- school just started up, but it's looking like it's not going to be too bad this quarter... aka I'll have time to model!

I've been looking at the Clay Shapers myself. Can you check the brand and where you purchased them from?

No doubt, man. I'll find out tonight and get back to you early morning tomorrow. They are definitely worth the purchase- maybe $35USD for a set of 5? 6? I found the set at a local art store chain, Dick Blick (*snicker* ) I primarily use the chisel and Xacto-style tools out of the group, but definitely awesome. The amount of control you get is amazing.

Awesome (that you bought them, not that you had to eat crappy CA taxes)- I'm almost certain you won't regret the purchase. Mine happen to have light blue silicon tips, not grey, as in the picture. Would have preferred grey, actually... but meh... whatever.

Whenever you get to try them out, lemme know how you like them.

In other news, I just put in an order for a Finecast Emperor's Champion. I plan to convert him into Hathor Maat or equivalent. I should have Part 2 of the GS work done this weekend. On the plate are one more headdress leader, as well as two Sons armed with "incinerators"...

And I should be recieving my kromlech khopesh-bits aaaaanyy day now...

Alright, sorry for the long absence! Aside from starting a new round of classes, I recently (finally! ) recieved the following from an order placed early June.

12 of these beauties...

12 of these...

And for some odd reason... I got one of these...?

Now that I've got these, the previous three I've started painting can finally have their blades added to their waist-bands, and/or GS them into scabbards. For the rest, I'll find creative ways to put them into their hands.

Also on order is a Finecast Emperor's Champion (please... please... PLEASE be a good copy) to be converted into my mini-force's first leader.

Question- Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations for "pretty/feminine-handsome" faces that'd fit a 28mm space marine?
I want to make an equivalent of Hathor Maat/pretty boy as the first guy... I just hate that name. I think something like "Kerpheres" would suit better.

Also in the pipeline, and perhaps taking away what limited time I have already, is a start to an invite-only contest (more like an exhibition amongst friends) here on Dakka! Many thanks to the sponsors/founders PDH and Baiyuan. I'll be linking my progress to my Phantom Forge, as that's for my random projects, but check out ouor progress and fluff on-

Thanks, man!

I've got a bit more GS work to do with the previous group (aka GS detailing Part 2), heavy conversions for the Champion, and hopefully a heavy session of airbrush painting using some new gear I've got.

Next purchase after all 10 (+ Leader) are painted will either be FW Heresy Jetpackers x 5... (or the Maximus-Armor guys + Chapterhouse backpacks) OR... Terminators. I'll see what my force needs next.

Thanks for stopping by!

Perhaps a BA specific head, their hair at least is foppish. Maybe an Empire noble head or something, its a difficult one for sure.

Now you just need to build the models to put the weapons on...

Hey Vit!

True... My bet was to take either the Sang Guard mask(one generously donated from my cousin Z ) and modify it to make it "human" (aka no crazy blood crown things) or one of their human faces (one generously stolen from my cousin Z )... haven't looked into the Empire nobles... or Empire FB faces at all... might have to check that out as that same cousin has a set of them too... I forgot to add that Kromlech added a Not-Grey Knight Power Halberd x 1 pc in my order as well, along with that Ork head. I might be able to trade it instead of, uh... liberating parts, when next I meet my kin.

And yea... lol, some guys will have their blades strapped to their waist, but I really want them to be wielding them as well. First guy to get the treatment will probably be the Emperor's Champion who is on his way to the nearest GW for pickup. I'm already set on picking up the Archangel (new sculpt from Scibor- check out the discussion/sculpt here. Now THAT's a pretty-boy worthy of the Sons)

I have a couple of head recommendations for you, for your Hathor Maat conversion

The most 'handsome' human head i can think of is this one

http://www.letthedicedecide.co.uk/product/Empire_Pistolier_%7C_Outrider_Head_G_EMPO009

other than that you might want to look at elf heads for a slightly more androgenous look

http://www.letthedicedecide.co.uk/product/High_Elf_Archmage_Bare_Head_B_HEAM005
http://www.letthedicedecide.co.uk/product/High_Elf_Archer_Head_C_HEAR003
http://www.letthedicedecide.co.uk/product/High_Elf_Silver_Helm_Bare_Head_HESH012

not the best images however they should be enough to give you an idea, hope that helps

Hey, Asylum, thanks for the suggestions! I'm really feeling that Pistolier head! The androgenous look would work, but I have a nagging feeling that the thinner faces would work against the thicker-armor aesthetic.. (or perhaps I should take a look at the "Pretty Marines" again...?) Either way, that's a great start! I never even thought to look at the HE riders- I thought they were wearing helmets..

I'll definitely have to research further- the Silver Helm and Pistolier heads have definitely caught my eye. And I definitely appreciate the help from you and Vit so far! My first (and sadly, only) idea was to buy a whole metal/resin mini and chop its head off...

This is a great thread Izanagi. I'm really looking forward to seeing more.

Have you thought about using DE heads for your Hathor Maat?
They're pretty androgynous. Inmate pretty much posted all other ideas I had.

EDIT: Sigvald's head could work pretty well but that might be a little pricey...

Same here, I want the unique look, but definitely want that integrity there that'll still make it "believable". (as believable as little plastic soldiers can be, anyways... *ahem* sorry. miniatures... as believable as miniatures can be)

I'll be gathering that up shortly- more progress to come... it irks me a bit when I'm posting on my blog but I've got nothing new to show for it... soon... very soon...

Hey Igandris- I stopped by your =I= thread- very promising start. Out of all the goodies you can see on the Dakka forums, those blogs are probably my favorite due to the story and character growth potential... and makes me want to go back to my dead (although, seriously reconsidering reanimation) Promethean Hammer =I= Munda thread. (see sig) I'll drop by again to formally comment later!

Sigvald was THE model I was thinking... but to chop him to pieces for only the head... yowza.

Stay tuned. I'll be doing a lot of modelling and painting using inspiration from another thread "Eggroll's BAs"... great airbrushing, and I like the more somber red and shading techniques he uses... hopefully I don't butcher mine trying to emulate it.

Hey Biccat! Thanks for the info! I just checked out that User...

I'm almost certainly not going to go for the Egyptian Knight standard bodies as I want to convert them myself without all the details already there... but the not-terminator bodies are really intriguing.. I'm definitely picking up a pack of those, a pack of the other MK armours that person carries as well... more bang for my buck.. instead of FW $120.00 per squad of 10 guys... Jeezass...

Lol... not even July, and already my money is called out for.

Thanks again! I owe you for the tip!

Yeah...loving those not-Terminators. It's basically an idea I had floated around earlier (heads like Egyptian gods). I'm wondering if that user trolls dakka for ideas...

Yea, those not-Terminators are definitely awesome- I'll definitely be working on them- some of the animal heads will be cool, but I want some with the tiny SM helmets w/ 1K sons details on them... more in-line with the original concept art.

LOL... who knows but I wouldn't be surprised if that guy did troll here for ideas... Some of the projects out there... Starcraft-style armies, 5-Flavor 1K Sons, =I= Munda characters of x-men fame and another guy who made Duke Nukem, Terminator, Lobo, Snake Plisskin, Rambo...

...not to mention the people who scratchbuild titans and their own models...

I also really like using heads from chaos marauders or marauder horsemen for my veterans. the standard marine heas are either bald or really short haired much like real military haircuts, veterans and special forces types dont seem to have the same restrictions on hairstyles (as far as I can tell). So long hair and angry faces just seem to say veterans/special ofrces to me.

Also, I know what you mean about posting when I have nothing to show for it, however I have had some serious bad luck with my blog. I am currently on my 3rd camera, my best one wont switch on , my housemates wouldnt switch on and my back up camera goes through a set of batteries every 20 pictures and doesnt recognise the card when I plug it in... so gotta get a card reader now, I think I might be jinxed
