Well, the daemon prince can lash someitng into a nice cluster, and then have a nother unit drop a battlecannon shell on it or something. That's legal.

When fifth edition first came out, my buddy somehow "misinterpreted" the shooting rules that you had to declare what EVERYONE was shooting at before you started rolling. "this unit shoots at THIS unit, this unit shoots at THAT unit", etc. and you couldnt change targets after the dice started rolling. What's worse is he played orks, he had so many things on the table you couldnt keep track. We eventually got a bundle of dowels and would lay them out across the table to keep track of everything. Till oneday somebody said this is ridiculous and picked up the rule book...

"The path of righteousness is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the xeno and the tyranny of heretic. Blessed is he, who in the name of the Emperor, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Emperor when I lay my Marines upon thee!"-Chaplain Jules Winnfield

With the correct manoeuvring he can, quite legally, claim a 3+ cover save on the Rhino because firing models are unable to draw LOS to the facing they are in(as it is hidden behind the Land Raider).

Classified, vermilion level clearance required.

I have 2 rules both made by the same person, one is a joke, the other was actually serious.

The first is the I Win rule, very straight forward, if you have a unit with this rule you win instantly, no exceptions.

The other didn't have a name, and wasn't as ridiculous, but still it was to much.

This rule belonged to a space marine character so ridiculous he made Marnius Calgar look like a guardsmen, his rule meant that he could challenge the enemy commander to a duel, which was the

enemies HQ choice (chosen by the opponent). If the commander accepted the challenge then they would immediately move into base contact with each other, regardless of where they are,

they then enter combat (They both count as chargeing). If he wins, then every unit in the opponents force must make a leadership test, if the opponent wins then his force has to take a

leadership test. If they opponent refuses to fight, then his entire army must take a leadership test.

My first ever game was 3rd. Ed. CSM Vs. SM, and my opponent's advisor (he was supposedly a veteran player, but some years before that, with 2nd. Ed. rules...) had a biker chaplain charge my chaos dreadnought...
The thing is he had us understand pistols counted as CCWs (which they actually did and do), BUT in terms of using their profile to boost CC attacks, so his chaplain had 5 S7 attacks and crippled my dreadnought easily and unscathed, thanks to his I=5.
The next thing he was planning doing was sweeping advance then engage (legal back at 3rd. Ed., or was it?) my terminator squad and ignore armor saves, not because of his crozius, but again his 5 S7 I5 attacks provided by his plasma pistol...
Lucky me I shot him down thanks to a bad sweeping advance roll (3D6" w/bike?).

Right behind you. No, really.

Not really a fake rule, but this kid (BA) tried to DS a LR ( i think). He mishapped, and I dropped the LR in the far corner. He somehow, in 2 turns, gets within gun range. I ask to measure, and (he moved "12" each turn apparently) and he was 28" away from where I put the LR. This was after it took out a Hammerhead :p

I had a kid who couldn't be bothered to move his orks (about 80), so he moved one forward, and moved the rest of the squad in behind it. I had no problem with this, until 20 of them got in single file to get through a narrow alley between buildings (about an inch between each ork), and proceeded to move every ork in a bunch at the other side. They ended up being all in assault range of my tactical squad, despite the furthest ork starting the turn about 2 feet away. I pointed it out to him, so he then proceeded to move them in single file, but in B2B with each other. I let it slide, my tac marines survived, the squad managing to pummel enough orks to stop most of the inbound attacks, and because only 3 or so cold get me, I took no wounds and sweeped 'em. I had to go in about 10 min, so I couldn't be bothered to stand there arguing with him. I later saw him doing the same to a noob on his first game. I had a go at him, it turns out the guy had also been saying all his boyz were 'ard boys (one squad per army, 4+ armour) and his boyz had shootas and choppas. The cheater ragequit because the noob proceeded to destroy half his army with some flukey rolls.

i made a total nood mistake when reading the scouts 'move through cover' rule when i first started out. pretty much skimmed it so in one of my first ever games i promptly rolled 3 6's and moved 18" through a forest to wipe out his crisis team that was hammering me.
needless to say when i was perusing my codex a week or so later and realised my mistake, i made a full apology and offered a re-match with the BRB on hand. He accepted and seemed quite genial about the whole thing, even going so far as to apologise for a mistake he made in his list (having an extra 200 odd points than i did lol).
never did get another game from him though....

When third came out my friend wanted to play my 3rd edition DE with his eldar so he made up rules based on what he "thought" the 3rd edition Eldar book would be like. His Jain Zar and Solitare killed my entire army in three turns.

When the Eldar codex came out, he stopped playing them...

Later, he came up with the same "probable" rules for Tyranids and narrowly defeated me after I flew away from his multiple T8-9 MCs and tried picking off the gaunts. Luckily it was close as he didn't give his force all winged Carnifexs.

Once I accidentally fired both weapons on a Falcon after it moved 12" (first time with Eldar) and didn't notice until I was rolling for damage (three glances). I realized my mistake and apologized, and removed the dice for the scatter laser from the board (two of the glances). My opponent immediately declared me to be a 'raging cheater' and that I 'would have taken the better of the two weapons'. He proceeded to ragequit and storm off.

Worst Rule Used Against Me - Blood Angels rhinos have fireports. Then the opponent showed me the codex... blah...

Seriously, I got into a (brief) argument with a guy over this. I apologized profusely afterward, but I curse GW for writing something stupid to the point I thought that my opponent was making up his own rules!

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I'm guessing the problem is the BA player drove them 12" and fired out of them. It seems to be a common misconception that being a fast vehicle somehow has an effect on passengers firing from the firepoints.
