Yup, cause directors, producers and editors have nothing to do with finessing/mangling story and acting right?

This is from someone who appears (based on your many passionate posts on this issue in this thread and others) to have decided the film is going to be crap based on poor animation. Like you're saying, there's more to it than that.
What else you have said has mainly been ill backed presumptions fuelled by said distaste in animation quality. Seems to me you are the kind of person who watches an Akira Kuraswa film and decides it is poor based on bad dubbing and grainy black and white film.
Me I will be positive and open minded about this, I'll be buying it. But do note I fully support your campaign for the right to complain about this film based on it's trailer, kudos to that. Can't really understand why you care so much considering that, but kudos all the same.

Unsurprisingly, an awful lot of nonsense being bandied about in this thread. I think it's fair to say that I'm as well or better qualified to comment on this particular subject as anyone here, so here goes...
Having said "wait and see" in previous threads on this subject, I think it's fair to assume at this point that the trailer is probably representative of the finished product. I have to confess that I'm somewhat disappointed with the quality, but I think I have a better understanding than most people of the odds they were up against.
I would make a couple of points though:
I don't think the name actors would have been that expensive - assuming they didn't re-write too much during production, most of the voice work could have been done in a few days for the main roles, so really not much more difficult than doing it for a game. Compare that with months on location for a live action film.
It's clear that the Hollywood system works against them ever doing a big budget film, for all the criticism of GW not selling out the background has always been their #1 priority when it came to doing movies.
As to the price, I would hope GW will also do a non-limited version without the extras at around half the price once the initial launch has passed.
I'll support the film in the hope that we will see more of them, hopefully getting better each time. I hope many of you will do the same.
Finally, I'm usually pretty restrained about being being openly rude in the forums, so I hope the mods will grant me some leeway just this once:
If you want to see the film, buy it or borrow it from a friend. If you download this, you're an arsehole.

They did. It's called Starship Troopers. It has tyranids, too.
I'm just seeing the special edition. If they had a regular edition for $20, I'd pick it up. Not paying $40 for a bunch of extras I don't want to go with a 70 minute movie. I hope this changes later.

the way they say the "Special edition is only avaliable for a limited time" makes me think they will be releasing a standard version after the special edition runs out.
on live action. that requires Sets(which arn't cheap), tons of extras(all of whom must be paid, fed donuts...), a large film crew, and at least a year.
as opposed to CG which only requires a dozen or so voice actors(who can do multiple voices), and prehaps 2 dozen computer nerds to do all the CG, sound, and cutting work.
if this one at least makes a little profit they will make another one.

Despite my skepticism of the graphics, I decided to get the movie. Besides I like comics. I was 100000944 when I ordered last week. Has anyone ordered recently willing to share their number so we can get a feeling for how they are selling? I'm assuming they haven't sold 100 million copies and I was 944.

Try actually reading my posts before saying anything, especially when I have spent the time to thoroughly state my case. Your quote above is utter crap, and you make yourself look 'ill backed and assumptive' for picking a fight based on your obvious 2 second attention span when reading other posts. Don't be such a fanboy, if you didnt feel the need to so quickly jump to lady GW's defense, you would have actually read what I wrote and realized I had made many, many, many statements supporting your own points.
I have said, in almost every post, a billiion times, I make NO COMMENT ON THE STORY because we know nothing about it. I just find it silly for those saying oh the graphics don't matter because the story is awesome to assume everything is going to be great there too. It might be, it might not be. I hope it is good, as I have said a billion, just don't argue with those of us who think the production values displayed are poor by saying we are shallow and there is more to a movie than graphics when you have no idea if there is in fact anything to the story either.
Finishing your bs post on a 'positive note' is thinly veiled patronism. You are entitled to your opinion, but you are so wrong on your take of mine it is offensive you took it upon yourself to comment on it. Don't put words in my mouth.

You directly made negative allegations towards me with your Kurisawa comment (which is in my collection btw and a classic), indicating I was single minded and judging others based on their likes and dislikes. There is no misread that I can see.
In retort to your last post, I'm not (nor have ever) arguing that the story is good or bad. Just that no one here has any real knowledge on the subject as of yet. My only point, with any of this, is to just judge what you see, respect other peoples opinions, and don't tell anyone what they like or don't like. And definitely don't tell people graphics don't matter because the story is awesome when the movie isnt even out yet. The production visuals are out there to see, the story isnt.
At no point in this thread have I made any sweeping statements, I have clearly said everything is simply IMO, and if some people enjoy the graphics, then that is awesome and I don't judge them whatsoever on it. I think it is great they will enjoy the film that much more.
So please, spare me your 'no you READ my post' passive aggresiveness. You got in my face, and if you were in fact correct about what I had written or my position, I would have taken it like a man and say it's just a difference of opinion. In this case however, you are putting words in my mouth that are completely against what I have been trying to say in all those posts, and I'm sorry, that's a bs move on your part. I stand by what I said. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying you are uniformly a bs person, just this one instance. I am sure you are a fine fellow and if I speak to you again in the future I will be more than civil and friendly dude, I have nothing against you but in this case you really, really got me wrong.
Now, moving on, let's not derail this thread for everyone else, if you would like to discuss further, please pm me. Just please if you take away nothing else from the above, I am 100% into freedom of opinion, strongly, the only time I have argued is when people state their guesses as facts to rebut people talking about something they are in a position to have a factual, not speculative, discussion about.

I think I may have guessed what the plot will be like. I based this on the characters, what was said in the trailer, and how the story could reasonably come about.
My guess is that there is a squad of new Marines, who have been put under the command of an old Captain and Apothecary to continue their training. That would explain the two old Marines, as they are Marines that have lived past their usefulness in combat, but have not been lost in the line of duty. They could still be of some use to the Chapter as instructors, as they would obviously have incredible experience.
There seems to be a “middle aged” Marine in there, which should be the squad Sergeant. He is the one that has the line about killing Chaos.
Then, there are a bunch of young Marines that would be main focus of the story.
Obviously, there will be two main characters, hence the two younger voice actors, that will either be friends or in competition with each other. One of these young Marines has the line about spotting the taint of Chaos.
Anyway, the whole group will be responding to an emergency message from the Imperial Fists. That’s why there is only one squad, and two old Marines. They will be the only ones that can respond in time, despite their lack of experience. This would also explain the whole “Honor of entering combat as an Ultramarine” line, as well as why there are only 12 Marines going out to fight Traitor Marines.
The squad will get owned, except for the two young heroes. One may be a traitor, but may also die. It all depends on the arc that Abnett wanted to go down.
Anyway, it looks like there will be one hero, and the old Apothecary, alive at the end to save the day.
Sounds like an introduction movie, as well as a simple plot for new audiences to wrap their minds around.
Anyway, just my impression of the movie at this time…

Yeah, well, I'd complain less if all of said characters were faceless mooks. However, they include a couple with actual bios. It's like casting C-3PO and Tarkin's assistant with the same actor, and hoping nobody will notice that their voices are the same. :/

It's true: Decius, Maxillius and Hypax are played by Gary Martin, Sergeant Crastor, Junor and Remulus are played by Ben Bishop and Boreas and Lycos are played by Christopher Finney. The 8-man squad has three voice actors between them.

Sorry nitpicking here, but the captain isn't that old. He only has one bolt in his brow so he has only been serving for a hundred years. To give perspective Telion has served for 300+ years and his is a front line scout.
As for the movie it's halfway decent enough that I will get it. As has been said countless times the CGI is not top notch. Hopefully the story pulls it through, but it's only 70 minutes long so who knows if that is enough time for proper character development. Here's hopin'.

I'm just trying to get over the idea that visuals doesn't matter in a 40K movie. The appeal of the whole thing is primarly in the imagery.
I watch plenty of plain or even ugly movies and it doesn't matter, but I can't see how 40K could be anything other than a visual film.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another.
