Well, maybe. At least it is fun to read, and does not take itself too seriously.

I genuinely find him awesome. And I love how the books subvert the grimdark of the setting.

Space wolves and Grey knight are much more Mary Sue than Ultramarines. Especially Draigo.

Or he is just that awesome. No, seriously, there are already such difference between Black Library books and how different factions fare in them (especially when they are protagonist in one and antagonist in the other), so why care about it only in Cain's book ?
No, there's simply being a glarring contradiction with all other fluff, with Cain somehow managing to take on everything ranging from Necrons to Genestealer cults flawlessly. He should have been dead by the second book. The fact that it stretches on for nine is hilarious (and repetitive), and only cements Cain's status as a Gary Stu, and one of the biggest of them all in W40K.
And yeah, the books feth up a lot of fluff along with it.

He is a HERO OF THE IMPERIUM, of course he is able to deal with Necrons and Genestealer cults ! He could also deal with hive fleets, org waaagh, chaos black crusades, eldar craftworlds and even the whole space wolves chapter. That is what HEROES OF THE IMPERIUM do.

He did not make graffiti on a daemon primarch internal organs. Yet.
Beware, Fulgrim, he might be coming for you.

He's going to go for Magnus, since Jurgen supreme psyker powers are going to make Magnus completely helpless.

I'm too busy today, but I'll put together a PM later with specific book quotes for you to work with, Oxy.

Mortarian's a daemon prince and popped back from that with ease. It didn't help him though that Draigo knows Mortarian's name, as IIRC, I don't think the Daemon Primarchs actually got daemon names.

Yeah, but as we now know, having Mortarion's name didn't help the previous grandmaster...

So, since almost everyone in the galaxy knew their name in 30k, it is no wonder they fled as fast as possible to the Eye of Terror during the Heresy .
Seriously, most stupid weakness ever.

I think it's supposed to be his mortal name or something from before the Emperor told him he was supposed to be called Mortarion.

That is not what you did. You just replaced facts by other facts. Now you are spoiling things that have not even been revealed yet in the books ! That was supposed to be a ground-breaking revelation in the book after next book, goddammit !
Jurgen, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM (and of bad hygiene) !

Mortarion's daemon name that Draigo knew and used is different from his real name. At least according to /tg.

I would be more convinced if it was according to the BL audio drama that went into the detail of this story.
