Subject: NEW P.A.C.K. MAX (Finally something for large models like the Thunderhawk and Reaver Titan)
It has been a while since we posted our monthly news videos. Well, its not because we did not work hard during those off weeks. Here is another amazing bag designed for gamers by a gamer.
The P.A.C.K. MAX
This new bag is built with a combination hard wood and rugged plastic. Its built to hold the heaviest and largest of models. Everything from the Reaver and Bio Titan to the famous Thunderhawk.
Check out the website over the next few days for pricing and ordering details.
Pre-Orders go live tomorrow and release of the bag happens on December 1st. A great time for Christmas.
Check out the video below to see this baby in action.
When you say 'Limited Edition', do you mean once they're gone, they're gone, or that you'll always be selling them, but they'll be made to order (ie. expensive as each one has to be made when ordered as you have none 'in stock').
Looks cool, I'm sure that there are people who will be glad to be able to transfer their fragile FW monstrosities without having them break. It's a bit of a disappointment though, that the standard trays don't exactly fit.

I mean limited as in we will never have them in stock. We will however keep our little grots on standby to get working on them as soon as an order gets put in. With almost 10,000 Square Feet of warehouse right now we just don't have enough room for these beasts.
Ph34r,
The trays just could not be made to fit perfect because the bag is so large. We would have to redesign the entire line of bags just to have them fit super snug. As you can see from the video, the trays have really no place to go.
Hope that helps.

While I agree, I also see reomeos point about them having to redesign the whole line to make it fit. Im sure you could get it to fit snuggly by jsut adding a random piece of foam though, yanno, as a filler

This pack looks horribly inefficient, but thats the modellers fault. I wont make a big model unless I can pin and magnetise it or otherwise disassemble it into transportable chunks.
Saying that Battlefoam do inefficient storage for their big models, the baneblade foam tray for example could be replaced with a shallower tray and a second tray for the detached turrets and room for other stuff.
Nice product line in general but not for me.

Some things cannot be magnetised mate, for example a Hierophant!
Oh man this box is refrigerator size Doubt I need so much but I'm wondering something, if it was possible to make customized trays that size I could fit 2 or 3 average armies in there with no problems.
So the big new foams are customizable? And noticed the foam is very thick so whats the thickness limits for foams now?
Navarro - We can customize anything so really its not a problem. Lets say you wanted a 1" tray to go on top that fit snug we could do it. It would be a huge troop tray and a pain to move around, but we could do it. The thickness level is any size now. We can cut just about any size but 6" sections are the most common.
Orlanth - I think the hobby overall is the most horribly inefficient. LOL After all we do play with plastic toys and spend hundreds of dollars building and painting them.
Panic - I hope we sell a tone to the Forgeworld guys. If not, I'm sure GW will send us some kind of legal letter telling us to not make cool bags anymore cause it somehow effects their IP. (just kidding GW)
Agamemnon2 - We tested this bag by putting two 45LBS workout plates inside the box and seeing if it would rip any seams or bands. The bag did not even bend. Really cool. I can't imagine someone putting in more then 90LBS worth of models in this thing.
Horst - Good to hear your coming over to the dark size, or should I say the green size.
Thanks guys.

Romeo, what's the price tag on these like? My Stompa, Brass Scorpion and Knight Paladin could use something other than a big cardboard box to carry them in...
Also, I may have glossed over and you gave them, but what are the full dimensions(determines how many I would need)?

BigJon - Over the next several weeks we will post many of the most popular large model kits. Reaver Titans, Warhound Titans, the various Tau and Eldar flyers and many others. Right now we have the Thunderhawk Gunship kit but more will be available soon.
Sirius42 - If the manta fits in a 24 x 20 inch area, then yes.
Platuan4th - It depends on what you need. Pre made kits are already on our site for $275.00 and that includes the bag and foam. For $350.00 You can do whatever you like with the case. More trays will be available so pricing will get lower as we add more models. Pricing will be decided by the amount of foam used and the overall difficulty of the project.
Hope that helps.

That is so COOL!! I don't even own anything nearly that big (yet), but I watched the whole video anyway. You just keep pulling more and more stuff out of it. Awesome
As to the comments above- if I was hauling this thing around, I'd want it to fit my whole army, too! So as to the smaller troop / vehicle trays not fitting completely snug, wouldn't be easy to just include a spacer piece of foam with the kit?
I know this was already suggested above, but it seems like it'd be an easy thing to include with the kit so that people would have the option to use their current (or new ones they buy from you guys) troop trays in it.
Very sweet bag

Are you saying you would "magnetise" a Thunderhawk? If so that is the funnest thing I have ever read. Having built 2, I think that would be horribly inefficient use of your time.

I remain unconvinced Romeo can lift 90lbs and change.
Got home today with my BF order waiting for me. I'm not a 100% sure but I think Romeo took my custom tray design and improved it. I am however, 100% happy.

I don't have a Thunderhawk, but yes I would deep pin it if I had it and make the wings detachable. 'Magnetising' is a fudgeword used for the methodology of custom multi part kits, for small miniatures magnets alone will do, for large ones deep pinning is also necessary, though magnets still often help 'lock' the parts together hence 'magnetising'. Contrary to above opinions I have seen a slot together Heirophant, and that also involved multiple deep pinning.
Yes, I would deep pin a Thunderhawk wings anyway, adding magnets is therefore no great feat.

Back here in the old world space is often a premium in housing. I enjoy my wargames collections and am slowly adding the extra large models like titans, I magnetise them or disassemble them when I can. My 'storage area' for them will be atop a bookcase on display, my storage when transported is in a modified carry case with egg crate foam and individual foam wraps. I could not enjoy the PACK series option because with a custom case for even one of my superheavies would be a huge volume of room taken up in my flat. This is what I mean by inefficient, if I had three superheavies and a PACK for each one it would take up a sizable volume of my overall storage space just for them.
Sure the PACK MAX looks neat and is well made, and may well be good value allowing for what you are transporting, but unless you have lots of spare storage room, its not a viable solution. Personally I need to have 'generic' transport storage for my large models. Put it this way, even if I was offered PACK MAX for all of my projected collection - for Free - I would have no choice but to say 'no thank you'. Nice though they are I need some living space more.

If you have big minis stored in several parts... you might use one of this PACKs with custom foam for the parts separated, and make a better use of space. Well, I guess that this is what you did with your modified carry case, but this PACK Max seems huge.

The problem with the thunderhawk is there is almost no side wall to pin to. It is ether permanent or it falls apart the wings are too heavy for 1/4" of resin to hold a magnet.
I had to drill through the body and have 2 pins holding both wings and then green stuff in the gaps to fill them some gaps were huge as much as 3/8".

I have seen pinned aircraft wings before, often with historical models which have an even thinner wing section.
What you did with the through pins and putty is no different to what I would have done, the one exception is that magnets would be added and the wings removed before the fillers sets.
Remember its the pins that hold the wing on and support its weight - not the magnets. The magnets act as a temporary weak glue.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Thawkpage2.pdf This is what I am talking about if you look at the leading edge of the wing join it is a wedge with a pin in it you can't pull it out straight.
And a magnet is not strong enough to hold the wing by it self.
this is what the wing join looks like from above

Romeo, I am sure you have had plenty of feedback on the case and what youre customers want. I just thought I would voice my opinion of what I am waiting for (other than the reaver case you list which I will defo be buying!).
I want a case that can hold a pair of revenant (Eldar) titans. Is the delay in doing this because this titan can be made a lot more posable which makes it more difficult to make foam that securely holds it. Obviously if I need to do a custom job, then in the future I will.
Also, if you use the 8" kit, what variations of custom foam will fit in the spare 4". For example will it only fit 6 1" infantry troop trays due to the bottoms of each piece of foam. This seems to be answered in youre ad, but what about two (one on each side) 3" tank trays and two (one on each side above the tank trays) 1" infantry trays. Will it fit or not quite? This will help me in planning what I need. In relation to this, If I ordered a custom kit with the 12" block of foam, and say my titans only took up 8" like the thunderhawk, can I use the other 4" to make custom foam for some more tanks etc. Is this included in the cost as it is a fully custom job that costs more money? I could do my entire Eldar army with this one case if this is an option and I will start planning my army now and place the order asap. This case could solve all my problems!
On a slightly related note, whatever happened to the half inch trays we were promised?
Can't wait to add this to my other BF case.
