I like that idea. Some sort of 'keepers of the faith' type unit with mixed ecclesiarchy / sisters that behaves like a Faith based.ethereal - with powers + range determined by squad size?
And some sort of flamier tank + classic characters

Maybe keep them more true to the unique faith resource SoB got, and make some sort of "faith tank" (a tiny church on wheels that provides +1 to faith rolls around it and has a Laud Hailer?)

I'd love to see the. Retinue turning into a proper team somewhat like a C:SM retinue, farsight's crowd, DW command with toys, etc.
Make it sensibly costed (hard to do given the SM versions are expensive 3+ saves as it is) and it could make canonnesses good choices (and no need then to add inqisitors back in or anything like that). Further, it could make a reasonable (won't be tournament level, but hey, fandex) casual all-sisters list.
|
I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can. |

Possibly, keep forgetting this thread is in tactics, not general.
I'll start a thread in a bit.

This is also an option, though I'd probably make this a seperate choice, or maybe a 'special' transport for certain squads.
Ticking over the Faith squad in my head I'm thinking something like a Priest or 2, 2-4 Battle Sisters as bodyguards, then some praying girlies, has 6" base range, +1" for each girly up to 12". Starts with 1-2 powers, gaining a new one for each X girlies.
For example - base power if activated lets all squads within range reroll faith tests, while a maxed squad could activate a power such as 'every squad in range automatically gains 1 faithpoint per turn'.

I tend to make an 'extended' codex myself, which adds to, rather than changes existing stuff.

Ran a game 1600 points sisters vs 1700 points Tyranids. I was very excited to try out the new updated Repressor with the AV13 front. I had 4 repressors and 2 Exorcist, just a wall of higher armor than im used to. lost one the whole game. Im really liking the new Repressors

What would you play in a 500 points combat patrol games, assuming no HQ and no exorcists?
I thought I had a pretty solid list, but playing against an ork player with 7 lootas, 30 shoota boys and a squad of 6 bikers proved me wrong. Didnt help that my dices were the most horrible I've ever seen them as well. (I,E my Dominions had feel no pain from a kill team mission where leader kept special rule. I failed: Act of faith to twin link, I over heat the plasma, I fail the armor and then fail the feel no pain. So many fail safes that all went wrong.)

Well, Penitent Engines *are* open topped - I say we give them a transport capacity of 10, load them down with Repentia, and THEN fire them into the enemy backfield. Let the hi-larity ensue.

Doesn't in mine, :-) but you can take Battle conclaves and/ or Sisters of Silence as Troops so I think that makes up for it.
Sisters of Silence are awesome.
Plus, I made Seraphim more diverse and multi-purpose so I didn't think it would be appropriate to make them troops.

Um...why Sisters of Silence in a Sisters of Battle codex? They are not the same thing and have never been closely related.

While I have not faced the new codex yet, I have read it, and I see little changing in my tactics against them. Wraithknights may be slightly troublesome, but against focused Exorcist and/or rending heavy bolter Rets, I see them in the same light as Riptides. They are big, moderately threatening but succumb to the big guns just fine.
I'm nervous about facing so many of the quasi rending weapons, though.

I have had little time to play my Sisters since the Tau, my truest all time love, came back. So I am quite interested in what sisters players will do about a couple changes. the one you mentioned is big: lots of rending, from even their most basic troops and Sisters are ALWAYS at short range when doing their real damage.
The second is the WraithKnight. I have faced it with tau and let me just say: unless you have some instant Death tools, or large units of fearless tarpits, I suspect you will be in big trouble there. It's 300 points of "I don't like you very much" and while I find the model to be ugly as sin (and i refuse to buy one for my eldar at this point), it is easily the most ridiculously hard thing to kill I have ever encountered. Even Tau, who can shoot like no other, were helpless to affect it very much and I have found it easier to use units and drones to slow it down instead of trying to actually kill it. Just limiting its moves badly is the best strategy I have found.
So while my Sisters haven't seen NewDar yet... Those two elements also worry me. But I am interested in peoples actual experiences so far.

I'm more afraid of the rending guns than the Wraithknight by a large margin. In most games, the Knight is going to be around 15-20% of their points. It's a huge points investment and it it does not have a huge amount of firepower for the equivalent investment in walkers or tanks. It can fight like noone's business, but vs Sisters, they are getting outfight anyway. I also have answers for it in the form of Exorcists/Rets/Celestine in a pinch.
But on the other hand, all of those shurikens can mince my squads right quick. And there's going to be way more of it than Knights.
Most likely, the best approach I think is going to be focused Rhino attacks, enagaging Eldar squads with at least 2 of my own to wipe out or cut out their ability to do harm before they can open up on me.

Sisters of silence still (Apparently) work in the black fleets that transport the psykers to be chewed up by the Emperor's golden thrown.
They work the black fleets kidnapping psykers, Battle sisters work for the Ecclesiarchy killing psykers. I figured working together would've been a natural thing for them to do, when you think about it.
Yeah, I don't see myself changing my tactics against the Eldar. Mainly because I'm one of the only Eldar players in my meta.

No fluff of them being destroyed. Is that seriously your problem with the codex? Phil Kelly brought Eldrad BACK TO LIFE and re-wrote the entire history of the world to say that the 13th black Crusade hasn't happened yet and you guys are a bit upset that I made a small jump to connect two similar organizations? :-)
Also, people must've lost their mind when Sisters went from working with with the Ecclesarchy in 2nd to working with the Inquisition in 3rd to working with the Ecclesarchy in 5th again.
I was really looking for input on the appropriateness of unit and upgrade costs as well as how rounded out the army was in comparison to its fluff. I've got Flame tanks and a new fire mode for the Exorcist as well as bringing in historical characters from the heyday of the Sisters Codex. I was expecting more on that than the Sisters of Silence.
It sounds like I'm bitching and that is not the tone I want to convey here, I'm just surprised that's all.

Howdy, new to the forum. Been playing Sisters since they first came out but haven't played in a long while. (Never played 4th or 5th and just now getting into 6th.) Read the entire thread here. Lots of good advice and interesting strategies. Also, find I must change my army for 6th ed. I have the "update." Can't really call it a codex. Did Repentia always suck or am I looking at memories through rose tinted glasses? Anyways, lots of Necron in my neck of the woods. Wraiths and flyers giving me trouble. Got the Aegis but still...
I think they're an interesting army to play but not an easy one.
Just wanted to say, thanks for all the information, opinions and advice here. Good stuff.

Just to add here, I'd love to see Sisters of Silence show up in the Game.
Say... In an allies and mercs codex or (if any) future =][= codex?
One of the most common complaints about the Sisters of Battle is that they had to be second fiddle to Inquisitors in 3rd, 4th & 5th (And yes, like you mentioned in your next post, this did piss off a fair amount of fans) so 'fixing' the problem by chucking Sisters of Silence at them, Inquisitors again or Arbites, PDF, Grey Knights or even Ad Mech (These are all suggestions I've heard before) really starts to get on the nerves of many people as it's isn't seen to be a good idea by any regard.
Also, par and part of the reason there are different groups like the Sisters of Silence and Sororitas are because the different organisations of the Imperium don't like to play nice with each other if they can help it.
They cooperate if they have to, forced to, ancient agreements or old friendships would call for it, laws dictated it or it was ultimately beneficial for them both but rarely because someone asked nicely.
And if any as yet unseen organisation had a fluff reason to show up in a Sisters of Battle dex, it'd be the Custodes whom have maintained close, friendly ties with the Sisterhood since the Age of Apostasy. (An interesting piece of fluff that has much potential but seemingly, has been forgotten.)
And even then that would still be a horrible idea to carry through.
