Either quite small or 2k but preferably 2k. The in between stuff always seems restrictive. I usually start a list aiming for 1500 and then add to 2k until I'm satisfied.

1750 or 2000.

I lean a bit more towards 1750. 2000 allows you to make "complete" well-rounded armies. 1750 forces you to make so hard choices as you can never get all that you want.
I like the challenge.

I prefer 3,000 Pts with two FOC. Not Apocalypse, because more game imbalance is not what I want. And some sort of mission agreed upon by both players.

Eh, I'm on either end of the extremes. I like playing 500 point Combat Patrols, and up to 1500. I don't get much 1750-1850 just due to my groups metagame, but I love Apoc. Mix in Cities of Death with any of the above and I'll be there in a heartbeat.

I tend to play 1000 point games but always enjoy 500 point combat patrols or 2000 point pitched battles when time allows.

1750 is my favorite, just enough points to get a good variety of units on the table for a good fight, without too much model clutter or the game taking just this side of forever.

Tombworld El'Lahaun 2500pts
Hive Fleet Vestis 5000pts
Disciples of Caliban 2000pts
Crimson Fist 2000pts
World Eaters 1850pts
Angels Encarmine 1850pts
Iron Hospitalers 1850 pts (Black Templar Successor)
Sons of Medusa 1850pts
Tartarus IXth Renegade Legion 2500pts

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I think the Apocalypse option should have been labeled: "I don't use points."

That's my favorite game style. Get together some close friends, throw everything down, and have at it for the weekend.

Partaking in a current campaign (starting at 500, went to 750 and now at 1000) i am appreciating the small games more and more as the smaller the game, the more crushing one good dice roll can be.

But if i'm over a friends house its 2500-3000 using 2 org charts as those size games cannot be played in my local store often (and never seems to be the case with the campaign going on)

500pts if I'm after a quick 40k fix or two. Up to 1500 if I have the leisure and to try out new builds.

Working on getting my army to 2000pts since 1750-1850 seems to be the new 1500.

I love a good combat patrol, so 400-500 and then skipping up to the 1000-1500 range. I hate the 750 point mark as it's little more than the compulsory choices, and anything past the 1.5k mark feels like an arbitrary comparison of dice rolls. I would rather save the money and time by just rolling off 327d6 and declare whoever has more sixes the winner.
I may just have been burned by big games, but that's what it feels like at times.

Hey, I can fit 2 dreads and a LR (CSMs) into 750 points... who's working with just the compulsary choices now?

1750-2000 is what I feel the fairest area for all of the armies out right now. Some scale up really well into high point values, others are unbalanced at low PVs. Guard and DE are a good example of this.

Guard can go up to 4000 points in one force org chart EASY and still have a very solid army. Dip down in the 1000 range and building a well rounded force is tough.

DE are BRUTAL in low point games because of the sheer number of guns they can pile into one force org chart. Try to build that at 2500 though, and you'll find that the effectiveness of your army caps out at like 1850. There's just not enough slots to make the army work.

I find 1850 to 2250 games fun.... But i prefer 2k games( that what every one runs mostly at the game store im at..) But I noticed when i lived in Indiana the normal game limit was 1750, Oregon, was 2000, Texas was 1850. I think it were you go and whom you play.

But I do build armies that are 3k or larger, so i can have a varity of units and Squads...

But i have to agree with Grankobot, certains are more powerful in low points games... DE being one of them.( i play them too) and when ever i go up past 1850... I have to add units that i hardly ever use.

i like 1850 since at the GW i play at that is generally the standard. it allows for plenty of guys, but its not quite as overwhelming as a 2000 point game

Armies:
Children of Tzeentch (1850 points) W:11/L:6/D:5
Kabal of the Twisted Storm (750 points) W:4/L:1/D:1

I like 1500 point games. My guard list is just right for that size. Team games with multiple 1500 point lists a side are also somewhat common for my friends and I.

I am still new to 40k and have only played a handful of games, but I voted for 2000 because I like options.

1500 points didn't allow me to run the units that I wanted, especially in the tank department. I recently played a 1750 game and liked the breathing room that it gave me so 2000 sounds like a really sweet spot as far as options go.

Since I was given a Stormlord kit for Christmas I know I will be wanting to play Apoc-sized games soon so that I can justify tanking that beautiful tank.

Anyway, in my opinion more points = more fun!
