As the thread suggests, what are some of the most annoying models you've ever had to assemble? Be it a tricky conversion or a just plain spiky model, (I'm looking at you, Chaos players) which models have you found are downright irritating to put together?

The only two that I've found so far in my brief, brief time playing the tabletop portion of 40k are Crisis Suits and Kroot. Crisis Suits are hard to get on the base just right - with two separate legs (Rather than a single piece for both) it's tricky to get it to stand perfectly straight on its base. Either the legs are spread too far apart or too close, or one leg somehow ends up higher than the other, I usually have trouble trying to get the darn thing to stand up properly. Plus, the back pieces never seem to match up just right. Every time, the two pieces start ripping apart as soon as that glue is down. It's not enough to actually crack the model in half, fortunately, but it always gets me a little jumpy over how long it'll last...

As for Kroot, the pieces are very poorly molded, and do not go together at all. The gun itself is a serious pain, since most of them have a right arm and left hand attached. Trying to get the two halves to match up right is just plain irritating. Plus, the back piece never seems to sit right on the model. No matter how I put it, it always looks like it's just kind of floating on his back, rather than being attached to it. Thankfully, Kroot have never been worth the points for me, so I don't need to assemble any more, but those first 12 were a pain in the arse to put together...

So far i'm having one hell of a time with my 'Queek Headtaker' model.

Though ,I have a hunch its my glue.

Arms are prickly, a bit heavy (He's basically doing the wingspan thing, so theres a lot of protruding weight) so i've had to keep his arms held up using my fingers waiting for my crappy Super glue to set in. I would pin him but I don't have the proper materials and supplies to do so.

That and theres very little to keep his little... Rack/headbanner thing or whatever its called that he has on his back. Its just a tiny bump.

I think they should make metal models a lot like the snap fits that they have for orks. Would be a lot less of a headache just to assemble.

Having just helped my friend assemble his Obliterators, I must agree with the above post that Oblits are the WORST metal mini to assemble, ever. Never again. Next he can go convert his own from terminators or somethin

Thunderfire Cannon... the times that i've ing swore trying to get the two cannon halves to line up..

Basically the two halves were curved and I tried to line them up the best I could. As I tried filing it down to slightly curved now so I tried to glue it. One side would stick and the other wouldn't.

Several have made my top ten annoyance list. Highlights include;

1. The fiddly hurricane bolter sponsons on a LRC

2. Tyrannid gargoyles (the metal ones)

3. The metal Ork tankbustas with arms & weapons that refuse to glue.

I always found the metal Blood-thirster to be a right swear-job. Those wings are far too heavy and kept snapping off as soon as I put him down on the table. Thank feck GW released plastic wings....

I love those little moments between the first kiss and the pepper spray...

Hands down the Thunderfire cannon.

Heavy pieces, wrists joints...etc can be done w/ pins and different glues (epoxies and accelerators). So that is just experience in modeling.

The TFC just doesn't line up. The model has to be hacked apart just to get it to fit. I will never understand how that got released as is.

Quite a few actually;

- Fiends of Slaneesh - Horribly built model, the tails a douche
- Demon princes - they're heavy and don't go together too well
- Obliterators - horrible kit, who thought of the large holes for the arms that never fit... and the small blades? forget it. I didn't even put em on, takes patience of a saint
- Ork Stompa - No instructions....
- Chimera - The tracks were stupidly engineered... whoever made this kit shoulda taken lessons from the guys who did the russ kits
- Hive Tyrant - very top heavy model, gluing the body halves is a b**** and a half, and getting it to stay together is an exercise in futility... thank god I had some cups and a gluebottle handy to sit it up and let it stand while it dried ><

Thats all I can think of for now. Basically almost all metal models lol...

so far, i havent had too much trouble with my 40k line of minis, the ones ive had issues with were all fantasy minis.

The Khorne Lord on Juggernaut was a bear to put together, the pieces are far too heavy for their own good. the legs came warped and i had to use some pliers to straighten them so it would stand period, which produced some extra lines on the hooves that i didnt like one bit.

the dark elf corsair banner mini. the banner, while plastic is just big enough that when attached, it moves the center of weight just right, enough to make it unstable on anything other than a flat surface.

the DE Hydra... fething heads, Nuff said.

my most annoying model in almost 13 years of the hobby are the following.
1. Hellcannon of Chaos (warrriors of chaos WFB) having done it Twice UUGH
2. Penitent engine Sisters of battle
3.my warshrine for Chaos WFB that is a WIP conversion atm, trying to cut down weight, extremely difficult due to Everything needing to be pined with 3mm brass rod to keep its structure steady. not to mention the fact that 95% of the model is pewter aswell Ugh.
and i plan on making 2 one for khorne and one for Tzeentch.

I managed to avoid that ( barely ). The bolter arrays were finally subdued by generous amounts of Green Stuff and Super Glue. But I still suffer from heightened blood pressure whenever I take my LRC to a game. I juts KNOW the contraptions are waiting for that innocent little bump that gives them the excuse to fall apart...

Pin the wings. My Bloodthirster has a pin in each wing, and one in the body. If the arms ever come off I'll pin those too. I'll admit it's a bad kit if you don't use pins, but with a good pin in each wing it'll be fine. I pinned mine about 3-4 years ago and it hasn't fell apart once.

As for me:
- Tyranid Zoanthrope (the lower body DOES NOT FIT to the upper body, at all. I had to file down the joint for ages, and then pin it). To add insult to injury, the 'vents' on the back are always coming off too.
- Blood Angels Honour Guard (Particularly the Standard Bearer). The standard is way too heavy for an all-plastic model (standard is metal), and even after pinning it it overbalances the model so it will never stand up. Having no way of reliably weighing the base down, I switched the jump pack for a metal one (to counterbalance the weight), raised it off the base with a pin to make it look like he's flying. Ridiculous. The Tech-Adept was a little annoying too, first time I'd had to pin a regular sized model (followed swiftly by the Standard Bearer).

The Tyranid Hive Tyrant was a bit of a pain too- the body halves don't want to set against the central torso, there's way too much weight on the top/front of the model which makes connecting the legs to the upper body a nightmare, and once it's on the base you can notice it moving slightly because of the massive weight forcing the model forward. Again, multiple pins in this. Awesome looking model once it's built, but ugh, it should be plastic.

I had a few arguments with the WFB hydra. Pinning didn't really work so well, I lack a rotary tool and just couldn't get pins long enough at the right angle to hold it all together. It seems that the pins were only jolting most bits further out of alignment on the necks. So the tail is (sort of) pinned, the legs are, and the open jaws. The necks and weight of the tail is just heavy amounts of superglue, then more glue filling the nasty gaps that are left once dry, then greenstuff in the remaining gaps, then a final layer of greenstuff that I sculpt the detail in.

Once the whole lot was dry, I could move on to the next neck. It took about a fortnight to put together. Didn't even attempt to pin the heavy metal to the thin base, I just used epoxy instead (which I should have considered for the necks, in hindsight).

As the die-hard gamer between myself and my brother, I was nominated to assemble his eldar army. The walkers were a pain. Both models are crroked on the base. I told him that they look like they are "running into combat." Still wish I could have gotten them to stand up straight, though.

The blasted engines on the Tau Devilfish. Not because there complex, but because they never seem to be molded properly. One side is always always thicker than the other so the two halves never line up, and you end up having to attack the damn thing with a file and green stuff. Every other piece fits perfectly.

For a real masochistic experience though its hard to beat the Helldorado minis, excellent models but with the smallest most fragile snaptastic components ever cast. GAAAH!!
