Is there any model you've built, or any piece of gear or equipment that when you look at it in your collection fills you with a deep, deep sense of regret?

For me, I hate to admit this, but one of the first times I went to a LGS (it wasn't especially F, and has since shut down) I got a bunch of supplies. One of which was Citadel PVA glue. As soon as I got home and cracked it open, I was filled with nerdrage at having spent $13 on $2 worth of elmer's glue.

When i was new to the hobby, I bought a squad of Cadians and a squad of Catachans, and mixed the pieces together. 3 weeks later, I found them, and realized how terrible they looked *facepalm*.

Still two bucks for elmer glue...( wal mart three for a dollar)

MIne was that too at first, and then there flocking when they had it, Now i just buy in Bulk and mix my own.... Same with there Super glue 12 dollars for 2 oz i get 8oz of glue for 5.99 at my local hobby store (not game store)
BUt what really erks me is I know how much a figure cost, and what the mark up is on them. Yeah yeah, mold cost, scuplters payment, employee time to cast and make the models... still doesnt justify a 24 dollar mini, that is plain and boring looking...

Mine isnt exactly shame , but anger and disappointment.
In a corner ( NOT right at corner no , not risking spider hiding in it ) there is a pile of mangled minis from bad trades.

Like the doctor who buries his mistakes, I've largely sold / traded / given my "mistakes" away:
- Dark Eldar
- Kroot Mercs
- High Elves
Those were the biggest ones. The rest of the stuff I've got, I'm pretty darn happy with.

That said, this year, I want to tear down and rebuild my Marines as a consistent model bitz army. Not that there's anything obviously wrong with the current stuff per se, just that it's not bitz-matched because the new bitz-based sets simply weren't available when the models were built.

I spent about 2000 yen on the GW hobby vice, not realizing the entire thing was plastic. That was pretty embarassing.

That's not a shame, that's a grand tradition of wargaming.

As soon as I received my very large, expensive and service painted Russian 6mm Napoleonic army I started thinking if I should add some more Hussars.

I gave up on Empire because I couldn't get Halberdiers to rank up. I had reglued them to their bases (in an vain effort to get the positioning right) so many times, their feet had almost melted away

I bought some Chaos Spawn for my GW Academy class. I assembled them to look as chaosy as possible and unfortunately, all the spikes and tentacles made them too difficult to place in any of my foam trays. When I did get them in a slot, some parts broke off and it started falling apart. So, I got fed up and started tearing of the spikes and tentacles.

I may just reposition their feet so they are more upright. Or they will be committed to my bits box since I no longer have plans on using them.

I've got two that stick in my mind. I started a 40k Ork Army about 8 years ago. I dropped a pretty good chunk of cash on them, but it was a good deal. I had most of it assembled and ready to go, but then I lost interest in them and put them up for trade. The trade went badly (on my end). I eventually got what was promised, but it was a pain in the butt.

The other was when I traded my Dwarfs for Nids. I ended up playing 3 games with them and then sold them because of money issues. Should have just kept onto the Dwarfs.

Had you thought of making up the middle of the unit from multiple models on a monster base or two. It's easier to rank things up that way.

I'm annoyed that I didn't look at the CSM codex or anything before I built my first box of CSM. I just used all the cool weapons, without realizing that there are limits to how many special weapons a squad can have. Thank god for the Chosen CSM option.

If I ever was to start a WFB army (which I'm not), I would likely just glue them direct to the movement tray, and have just the back rank (or two) removeable as casualties, possibly leave a front rank slot available for special characters. Saves hassle on many levels: transporting, time in deployment, ranking up. Also you can make a very interesting scenic base for a virtually entire unit. In fact it might be even more fun to do what is recommended by Rick Priestly in Black Powder, and full base your entire unit, and when it takes casualties use casualty markers instead of removing models.

It seems to me that it is a common fallacy to think of WFB as a game of dozens of indivual models. Instead it is a game of half-a-dozen or so indivual units. If you base your units accordingly you can save yourself a load of grief I think.

I tend to think of basing stuff in multiple models per base as it is the norm in most pre-20th century historical games. Why its not cottoned on in WFB beats me. Maybe its something to do with brainwashing from WD that convinces people that there is some merit in painting models to individual levels of absolute perfection, when in reality most models are hidden in the middle of a huge block and even if they were virtually unpainted no one would be able to spot it!

Resin Baneblade & Stormblade.

Sure, it was over 2 years before the plastic one hit, so before we even had whispers of a plastic kit, but I still regret it.

Not so much the Baneblade, but the Stormblade especially. That kit is a freaking nightmare - the effort of putting it together made my hairline recede an inch or two I'm certain. Only my extreme levels of patience stopped that tank from taking a quick journey to thrown-into-a-wall-from-across-the-room-ville.

WHFB 3rd ed, I got the Dwarf army box, it sits mostly assembled and very un-painted.

One thing i really regret, was i painted my space wolves with the obvious (it seemed logical at the time) Space Wolves Grey paint pot. and i was really confused why they didn't even look close to the GW paint job on the box.... then I read the painting guide in a WD, and discovered that SWG paint is a highlight not the main paint.. oh know you have to use Shadow Grey as the base... silly me.

Being something of a hobby dabbler, I spent about 13 years (94-07) putting together a 2000 point Blood Angel army. By the time It was done, acceptable tabletop standards had changed. My block painting and green painted bases were no longer up to snuff. It won't be hard to dip the army and flock the bases, but finally putting it on the table next to some folks who had put together their armies in the last year or so was quite eye opening

I also bought that freakin' GW hobby vise. I don't mind that it's plastic, but it can't seem to hold metal figs firm enough to saw through, and that's why I bought it.
