I'm not sure if i'm right on this but it seems to me that buying 3 small snap fit boxes of termagaunts is cheaper in the long run than buying 1 large box of twelve.

the large box costs $41 divided by the number of nids adds up to $3.42 a model.

whereas 3 small boxes costs $42 meaning each nid is worth $2.80 a model.

have GW made a pricing error or am I wrong on this.

But the snap-fit gaunts are really crappy, don't fit right and would be a problem to convert to other weapons. Besides, what with the Tervigon being so popular, surely they've all been sold by now.

Is the big box snap fit like the small ones?

If the big box is multipart assembly, then that's probably why. Snap fit stuff only goes together one way, so it often costs less than multipart kits, which allow for more customization.

Big box is a multipart plastic kit that comes with Fleshborers, Devourers, and Spinefists. The 3-packs are just armed with whatever gun they have, and are snap fit with inferior detail.

There you go then. That's why the big box costs -slightly- more.

Really though, at that price difference, if it were me I wouldn't really care about the minute difference in Price-Per-Unit

Buying three snap fit boxes is better value than the big box,15 gaunts with the snaps=£14.70
12 gaunts multi part =£15.00

Numerically better, maybe.

But if you want to actually have y'know...different weapon options, buying snap fit boxes means you're SOL.

Honestly, the difference between the two here in CA is about four dollars. Not signifigant enough to really add up the costs and say "Hey! I'm getting ripped off."

Fourteen dollar difference? Yea, sure, I'd be peeved. But something that small? Really?

You get what you pay for. If you want a repetative look with little variety, sure, snaps work. But if you're serious about the hobby and about giving your army character, multipart is worth the tremendously expensive extra dollar or two.

In a list with a Tervigon, I'd really rather have the more Gaunts, with less assembly time, for less. Multi-part Space Marines? Yes, each of them is a hero in his own right, and looks much better when treated that way. Multi-part Orks? Ehh, I like AoBR since I run a horde. It takes half the time to assemble over two regular boxes of Boyz and looks just as good. If you start posing each Ork uniquely it takes longer to make, and makes the horde look messy. The same thing goes for Gaunts.

If you want a ton of gaunts and they come right the right weapons, you might as well mix in some more static gaunts with your more pose-able ones. You're not going to have every model doing some crazy dynamic jump, so you might as well save a bit of money. This is of course provided that the snap together ones have the right weapons.

They come with Fleshborers, the basic weapon. That's also what they get spawned with coming out of a Tervigon. Yeah, 3 extra gaunts with a fraction of the assembly time and the same price sounds good to me.

Fleshborers are my weapon of choice for them,so they suit me. As for not being interested in moddeling,I love posing the little guys.

There's nothing wrong with the snap-fit ones. I've got 20 of the things from the old Battle for McDonald's starter-box. They look no different to regular Gaunts and if they're cheaper, and you want them, buy them.

I second the idea of mixing a few of the snap fit ones throughout the rest of your more dynamically posed force. It'll still look good, and stretch the money a touch further and the time a far bit.

Which is good to see... Initial rumours had been that the 12-gaunt boxes weren't going to include the biomorph sprue. Nice that this was obviously false...

I would join the crowd saying that the quality isn't significantly different on the snap-fits, though. Yes, there are a few niggly points if you look up close, but painted and on the table there's not really that much in it. They fit right in with regular gaunts.
