Can someone please explain why the crappy looking Chaos dread is basically $58 while the Venerable which seems to have more options and looks tons cooler is only $43? According to GW they are both plastic kits so I am not seeing the reason for the discrepancy. What really gets me is that I can order a Forge World Chaos Dread and it will cost me a whopping $0.22 more after the conversion from GBP to USD.

When you feel that weight, you get to feel your $58...for better or for worse.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I guess that makes more sense, still GW should fix the description on the site.

"Chaos Space Marine Dreadnought

Standing three times the height of a man, these towering war machines bare powerful weapons and are as lethal at range as in close assault. A chapter's Dreadnoughts are treasured relics, only awoken in great need. Encased inside every Dreadnought, lies a mighty space marine hero, who has suffered grievous wounds in battle, saved only by his interment.

This box set contains one multi-part plastic Space Marine Dreadnought and includes enough parts to make: an assault cannon, a twin-linked lascannon, a powerfist and a missile launcher - allowing you to customise your Dreadnoughts armament. Model is supplied with a 60mm scenic base. "

Still an ugly model though, can't get into the CCW on it at all.

With the beautiful stuff from FW, and the closeness in pricing, I see the FW dreads as a really nice alternative.

This also reflects stocking costs. The vanilla space marine stuff benefits from economies of scale. Since lots of people buy them they can be sold for cheaper.

I'm also getting the feeling there has been some advance in molding technology with the new molds. They must be cheaper to produce, because it seems like a lot of the new stuff has actually gotten a bit cheaper than the old stuff.

It's not necessarily the molding itself. It's new advances in mold making technology. Basically 3D CAD has allowed them to take prototypes from computer render to mold without having the sculptor make a master and 3up. This saves money.

For injection plastic the most expensive part is the mold making process. The actual plastic itself is cheap and the molds can be reused more or less indefinitely.

With resin and metal there is a limited mold life so periodically the molds have to be recreated and this makes the whole process more expensive.

On the other hand, we get things like the Hellhound: large increase in price, or the Basilisk: increase in price, and chimera: no more accessory sprue.

Hence why i got rid of my dread paperweight and got a FW dread a loooong time ago. I spent over $100 for it but have every single arm i will ever need because of magnetizing the arms.

Good heavens, if it bothers you that much, buy a plastic Venerable and use some of those leftover spikes you must have from the other Chaos stuff!

GW pricing is all about versatility . For one its a gaming piece , and its also a hobby piece. So premium pricing is fine.

Now what we have , the chaos dred. It also triple as your personal weapon. Throw that thing on anyone and they'll be sent to the hospital.

Chaos Space Marine Dreadnought $57.75
Taxes $4.91

Been able to use it as weapon to save your life from a thug = Priceless.

Sorry Grey knights are least supported.

Chaos is constantly betrayed and has a hardcore following of cynical bickering players. I am one of them.

Am I the only one of them who like chaos as spiky marines? I think they could me made cooler sure. But I like spiky marines.

I have to say that I prefer making evil looking marines, rather than spiky ones.
