Some of you will know me from my ever so slow Malfian Imperial Guard blog; others form the even slower (almost catatonic) Red Scorpion one. I have far too many ideas floating around in my head that I can never work on them all... I've always wanted to do an Orky horde, but it seemed rude to do Orks when I first started as that was Arakasi's domain; plus I could never think of a decent enough concept. Reading all the amazingly creative blogs on here (especially all the Grot rebellion ones!) made me hold off until I could think of something equally unique. No more! I bought a sketch book yesterday and for the first time an abso-bloomin-lootley ages... I did lots of sketches!

Intradukshun

Boss SkraggaZag gazed out across the burning stretch of land that had, until about an hour ago, been a supply depot for the human invasion of their home. It had been a glorious fight, but it left him somewhat annoyed that the sentry guns had destroyed all his vehicles. Every last trukk, buggy, bike and battlewagon! That meant walking to the next krumpin; and that just wasn’t on! Something or someone was going to pay.

“As sure as orks av teef we ain’t ridin’ da two remainin' kans all dat way! Where da bleed’n ‘ell av dose uvvas got ta?” he thought to himself, kicking a nearby Grot that was so rudely rooting through the smouldering, sparking remains of his beloved Battlewagon.

Rounding the corner of an Imperial hanger he spotted the deranged (even by Ork standards) Mek that had joined them recently, Q’rakasNappanp-op. Rumour had it that he’d arrived on planet shortly before the Imperials, having come all the way from out near “dem fishy ponces ta join da Waaargh”. At the time, no-one had paid him much attention as there was no Waaargh; no enemies other than the other klans fer da krumpin’. They were fun, but no Waaargh. Then came da Oomies. Thinking about them made SkraggaZag mad, as it reminded him of his beloved trucks in so many pieces that, he was sure, even Q’RakasNappanp-op couldn’t fix em.

“Wot da ‘ell are you doin in ere when my trucks need a-fixin’ so we can get bak to da fightin’ ?!”

Q’rakasNappanp-op looked up; Elysian helmet in one hand and Valkyrie service manual in the other; a slightly glazed look in his eyes and a big grin across his face.

“About dat Boss. I fink I ‘av a plan…”

So. I have a concept, thanks to the awesome Elysian models and the ever-so wacky Orks meeting up in IA8. I've got quite a lot of Guard to finish first, so this is mostly going to be ideas, stories and sketches for now as I'd like to get the ideas and back story sorted before starting on the models this time around; so please stay with me! You've had the story... now for some pictures so you don't all go yelling that this isn't a propa blog

This is kinda what I'd like my Boyz to look like. It's going to be a fair bit of work, but could be rather entertaining to see them all done up like Elysians.

Next up are some glyphs for the orkses. I'm trying to come up with something that can represent drop troops in some way...

Next up. The Warkopter model in IA8 is iffy at best. Given that my Boyz have captured an entire Elysian supply depot, they have started to "tweak" Valkyries so they can carry da boyz, rather than trukks. They may end up as "count as" trukks in normal games, even if they are much much larger

Then the thought popped into my head.. If the Elysians can drop Sentinels into battle... why not Kans?

I've written up some fun and very risky rules for an ork version of the Sky Talon that I'll post some other time.

I've no idea what people think of the rules for buggies, but I have a burning desire to orkify a squadron of Tauros buggies!

Last thing before bed tonight... we have the boyz mobs covered with the Elysians; but what about the kommandos? Well, thinks I, the Raven Guard were there on Kastorel-Novem too, with plenty of scouts and the Scout master. And thus was born the idea of Shado Kapt'n Kro (counts as Snikrot) and his Sneakies

So there you have it. A brain dump of Da Leeshun 242nd Waaargh!

From a modelling perspective, the KanDroppa and the Warkopter, I'd be aiming for just a Valkyrie; possibly a grot sponson on the front. The rest of them should be doable with plasticcard and other bits and bobs. The Sky Talon carefully secures the sentinels or buggies with two or more anchor points... the KanDroppa is just two great big magnets that can be switched off when they want to drop the Kans somewhere

"You want down dere? Ok..." flicks switch.

The rough idea, rules wise, behind the KanDroppa was that I'd take the normal drop troop rules from the Valykrie and add an "Ork-ward landing" bit.

If the Kan gets dropped off before the KanDroppa moves, they don't take any damage.
If the Kan gets dropped during or after a move of up to 12" (not including red paint job) there's a 50/50 chance of a glancing hit due to an ork-ward landing
If the Kan gets dropped during or after a move of more than 12" (still not including red paintjob!) there's a 50/50 chance of a penetrating hit due to a *really* bad landing.

Obviously the Orks have seen the Sky Talons in action, but still don't quite get how it works...

I've not got any of the Apocalypse books, so I don't have the vehicle rule creation bits to hand, so this is just a rough idea so far for use with friends. If/When I get the Apocalypse book and a finished model, I'll try and sort out some datasheets too

I'm not sure if Shrike was on Kastorel-Novem for them to have observed, but Shado Kapt'n Kro is certainly going to be based on Korvydae (somehow!).
If I get around to building some Stormboyz, then Shrike may come into play as Zagstruk

Of course it's not safe to drop Kans. They are ramshackled enough at the best of times.. let alone when dropped at high speed
That's why I've been thinking about them taking damage when dropped at high speed. I may add some turbines to the back of the DropKanz though, just to try and stabilize their landing a little bit.

The Chapterhouse jump packs will make excellent turbines for Kanz and Deffkopters.

Nice to see someone else from Reading on here too by the way

Good question... I've got about 5 units of Guard that need finishing off first. There's not too much more to do on them before painting can commence, mostly just some guitar wire for breathing apparatus... so I hope to have them ready for an undercoat soon. Probably sooner if I didn't sit here posting all the damn time

I'll probably cave in and buy a box of Orks to fiddle with soon though. Just to see quite how much work there will be in making the Leeshun and Sneakie bodies and heads.

Another little bit of fluff. I've decided to keep things flowing, I'm not going to do great big blocks of text... just little snippets that will slowly build up (hopefully!)
Enjoy (or not. That's up to you)

The raid on the depot was going well; at least Gobba Blaktoof thought so. He and his kommandoz had been given the task of sneaking into the encampment and sowing as much trouble as possible to distract da Oomies from the main attack. What could be better than starting the fight before everyone else? Of course, what they hadn't counted on was the automated sentry guns placed all over the place. Still. "Wot self respektin Kommando can't sneak dere way pas' a small ting like dat?"

Apparently his second, Gnarr, couldn't. He'd miss having someone that snivelling goit around; but "what da 'ell; dere still plenty of udda Kommandoz left"

Once they had made their way past the turret, their next target was the Beakie's ammo dump. Sure as grots are dumb, there was going to be a good ol krumpin' there...

So. Over the weekend I got to see Panic's Grot army in action and it was an awesome sight to behold.

It inspired long conversations with Arakasi about how I can deal with various roles and vehicles in the Ork lists.

Big Mek is going to be a Mek Priest, with some accompanying ServitOrks.

The buggies were originally going to simply be orkified Elysian buggies. Arakasi pointed out that that was no better than sticking bits of plastic onto toy cars and wasn't very Orky. So. The plan is now to have a go at building something that looks like an ork's attempt to build the elysian buggies, including a larger one to use as Trukks.

I've also decided that Kans should look something like Sentinels, with the longer legs. They may even be based on the Sentinel kit... not sure yet.

After the long chat the sketchbook came out and the long awaited Drop Grots finally materialised as a sketch:

Drop Grots Gobbo Doom Diver! Cool concept can't wait to see it in action although I imagine the Drop Kans being used more as Ordnance by the Valkyrie captains than as a way to transport the Kans. "Wotch dose beakies go splat as we dropdis Kan on dey're heds huh huh huh!"

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass.
