Aha I might stick on the base then as thats safe, but I think it would be better to wrap the sails seperately in the box just in case. Mail can be rough so you can never be too careful in my opinion!

Great job

Thanks so much Alfndrate! I know, nearly 100 pages, it's crazy! I'm glad I managed to get an average of a pic or two a page as well, that should make it not horribly boring to read through

I got lots of work done on starting the final space wolf top halves, the other halves are attached to their mounts

These will look very different as work continues, eventually looking like these -

so I figure I will upload WIP shots as I go as people have expressed interest in how I painted the SW models before. Guy on the bottom with double claws will be to showpiece standard, but it’s quite hard to tell at this stage Their basic metals and shoulder work has been laid down, after this comes the huge amount of weathering and careful highlighting, then skin and glow effects come last.

Off to bed now! Looking forward to getting more done tomorrow.

EDIT :

OH. PAGE 100.

PARTY TIME.

Haha, cheers all

I wish I had something great to post on page 100, but I don't think these wolves will be finished by tonight!

I'm also starting on a tiny squig, the next ship, and assembling some interesting mini's for later.

A friend is dropping down a brass scorpion and Luft Huron today, and I have some freaking AMAZING mexican orks on the backburner.

Busy busy!

Congratulations on getting to 100 pages.

The TWC look interesting, I didn't realize the SW have such different weapon options (a pair of lightning claws seem an odd choice when mounted on a dire wolf).

I look forward to more squig goodness and Mexican Orks--are these converted using the heads from Puppets War? With sombreros, a rattle, a pistol, and a flaming bottle of tequila?

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I'm not sure about how the Orks are converted, all I know is they look absolutely amazing
I think the wolves are just for display so they are more about just looking cool as opposed to being kitted for gameplay.

The gold is awesome but it is so.. so messy. I always have to apply it early on with the figure so I don't ruin anything :(

The cast seems fine, thats a shot of the actual mini I was given Only probs I can see are some basic tiny bubbles, not a huge issue.

Space wolves about 50% through weathering, top have their first layer of edging down. Gonna need another 4 layers at least. Hehe.

Scorp is.. larger than I expected and weighs quite a lot. Like.. a LOT.

He is gorgeous though, we are totally going to be best pals.

Im just floored at how nice the DreadFleet ship turned out. Holy hell, that looks pretty good, and its on a tiny ass boat! Keep it up. And was that a Geodude on top of your desk I saw? If so, your at least 2 steps up the cool ladder for that

It's getting a bit out of control isin't it? I mean no complaints, I am SO HAPPY that I managed to reach 100 pages and that people are actually remotely interested in my tiny arty thingies!
The bone was lots of fun, bloody hard to gt it to look right considering how tiny the mini was though :O

prime12357 wrote:It's...much bigger than I thought...wow Should be fun to paint!

It's bloody huge, it weighs so much! I think it's solid resin. No way can it be shipped anywhere, he had to come up from Cork on the train, holding it in a box on his lap! Crazy.

Rogue Wolves wrote:cant wait to see what you come up with for that scorpion!

As I said on Tumblr, I think I'm gonna spray him poop brown, then sprinkle on hundreds and thousands and some glitter. Maybe photoshop in some anazing lens flare. Aww yes.

Vitruvian XVII wrote:Ive had the pleasure of handling one of those in the flesh, such a gorgeous model.

They really are. It feels like a warmachine, it's so solid. Gorgeous thing, real work of art.

Hobofisherman wrote:Yay more wolves! Is all the shoulder pad work brush? It's looking amazing...

The only thing that won't be brush work is the basic 3 colours and maybe some osl from the airbrush. The pads do in fairness have some insignias already on them, but I can't wait to continue dirtying up those metals!

They should end up like this dude, so as you can see, they have a lot more filth to get added It's fun when the only armor colours you paint are on the bottom and everything you paint on is just dirt and wear.

Just a question what is your process to paint golds? Mine always look to flat or unrealistic

Bacms wrote:Just a question what is your process to paint golds? Mine always look to flat or unrealistic

It changes a lot depending on what end result I want, for the wolves it is pretty complicated. I start out with a base layer of vallejo liquid gold - old gold, then start washing it down with watered black, sepia, and mud in different areas to shade it with some basic kinda gradients. I rehighlight it back up to shining gold and then mithril silver in a lot of varied layers then start painting on dirt, streaks, dents with mithril etc.

For clean gold I would just highlight all the way to mithril and shade a little afterwards with some nice rich brown ink, which always looks nice

So I ended up painting for like 8 hours by accident today, heh. Wow it's nearly 3 am. This is crazy.

So the dwarfy boat, nothing as horrible as base metal with no shading or highlighting, but here we go anyway!
Obviously a lot of work to go, but the green is about done and it should be shaded and a lot nicer looking tomorrow!

And the wolves. Metal weathering is near finished, one more wash layer to darken it down and a rehighlight, then it’s on to power weapons and rune glows. Golds need to be retoned down as they are too bright at the moment, and the shields need some final touches to make them look less geometric. There will be some OSL on some shields.

Sword looks very basic on purpose, it will be nearly entirely glowing so theres no point spending a huge amount of time on the silvers. Chain swords still need a fair bit of work.

Fur has basic layer down, not really started on it yet though. Bone is at about 70%. Blocked in the power glow areas, want some glowing runes too
