Avast ye scurvy naves and welcome aboard me first painting and modelling blog!

The swabbies down at the LGS be runnin' a mordheim campaign over the summer, and not being the type of seaman to not partake in such merrymen I set meself the task of creatin' a crew of undead pirates from beneath the briny depths in order to cause a rumpus in the streets of the fallen city! This shanty be the documenting of my progress from a chest o' plastic bits to a full blown crew of the damned and the decayed!

Here be my first offering to ye, some shots of the bases I be using on this damned crew, they be unpainted but I be so proud of me works with GS that the cap'n decreed they should be displayed to all:

A wee crab has scuttled aboard! I be very proud of my work on this little beggar!

What kind of scurvy dog would go to sea without a bottle of rum!

The bases be stuck together in 1x3 rows at present, once the PVA be dry they will be separated and the planks cut flush. Now when the crew assembles the planks will line up again to make deck whole again!.

Ah well, the call of the sea sounds again, and I must depart! Yo Ho me hearties, til next time I come to port!

And so we begin to press-gang our crew into service aboard our ship. Their parts be from the zombie regiment and empire free company, with some other trinkets thrown in here and there

First up for ye inspection be the gunnery crew, they be small at the minute but the pull of wyrdstone and undeath will soon swell the ranks of the damned vessel!

Here be master gunner toombes, and his faithful powder monkey Doubloon. In game terms he be representing a skeleton mate with blunderbuss.

Next is the gunnery crew, they be representin' cursed crewmen with cursed pistol 'n dagger

Shamus, his crutch be a tad long at present, but the ship's carpenter has promised to cut it to size once he be aboard!

I never expected to see so much interest from ye scurvy dogs! This be a labour of love for me, a time of leave from me ork's, they having lost the edge that drew me in 9 years ago! Wait til ye eye's feast upon the conversion for Capn' Elizabet Harkon, based upon the marianna chevaux model! (once I figure out what to do with the blasted bow on the back of her!).

Just a small comment for the one-legged zombie... shouldn't the crutch be on the missing leg's side, out of stability? Sorry, that's just a detail, but it seems a bit weird... (Haven't been one-legged in a while, I must admit...)

Got the bases undercoated today, tried basecoating with an airbrush for the first time on them but mix was way off, will try again tomorrow.

Firstly I would like to express my thanks to ye all for ye comments, but alas I be hittin somewhat of a snag in my plans. I be usin the Marianna Chevaux model as a ghost captain, which I be heavily convertin'. My intentions be to dremel off the frilly stuff and poofy hair and scuplt upon it a tricorn hat over some dreadlocks, and greenstuff the skirt parts into a more suitably piratical frock-coat. Secondly I will be filing down the current boots and extending them further up the thighs. Here be a rough scribblin of the general idea of things:

Once I be finding a suitable tutorial on the makings of dreadlocks from greenstuff I shall beginning my works. However there be a rough patch that I must navigate first:

The pistols available to me (she has a brace) be almost half the size of the model, something which does not look right at all, I want here to have two pistols on her belt, but of a much more sensible and ladylike calibre (currently it looks like she be holstering two shotguns about her person!). Do any of ye scurvy dogs have any suggestions as to how I should go about equipping the wench? or be savvy of a place I can find them, or know a tutorial of how to scuplt such weapons?

So I be having a go at scuplting me own firearms today. For a base I found the hand crossbow from ye olde mordheim acessory sprue to be of the right size, greenstuffed a barrel on there and tidied up some cuts I made trimming it into shape and I feel that I have a suitable pistol for the lovely lady!

The pistol in all it's glory! just need to make another one once I get hold of another hand crossbow!

I saw dreadlocks and came running.

Im not sure aboutt he pistol if im honest. It may be the angle, but it looks all bendy. Maybe file it down a bit?

i love dreadlocked miniatures. can't wait to see her with dreads. (and I can't wait 'till my hair is long enough. when it reaches my shoulders, I'm going for dreads.)

I would suggest using plasticard or plastic dowels for the pistol. This way you wont have the bendy issue at all, and the process would be much easier to make more pistols. Greenstuff really isnt a good material to use for weaponry, unless its for filling.

I too am interested in this project.

Yeah I'm thinking about replacing it with some plastic rod too, didn't have time due to my attendance at the Download Festival this year, AC/DC were epic! only just got back but will work on them over the course of this/next week!
