It's not like you can't use buildings and walls in regular games.
Granted, going out and buying three more elite choices just for Planetstrike may not be the best idea...

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me. |

True, but I like the different missions and the strategems. Plus we get cool new terrain (sans those horrid blastscape pieces of gak).

TONS of people play CoD, don't write it off too quickly. That expansion doesn't suck. The others however...

I know, I was mostly responding to the people saying it was a fad. Even if it is, you can always use the terrain.

Seeing as an issue of WD is 9 bucks, 25 bucks for a nice codex sized book isn't that expensive at all. You use comparative pricing within GW.
I bought the book read some of the fluff and will probably give it a whirl soon, I really liked CoD. My group is probably going to run a campaign soon, and CoD and Planetstrike will be involved

I bought it and I like it...adds new life to some units.
Swooping Hawks that can assault the turn they deepstrike...yes please...strategem that gives d3 units melta bombs....hmmm you figure it out.
Being able to field all 6 of my Eldar Heavys on defense...yes please.
You don't have to play Apoc size...even 500 pt games would work with Planetstrike. One army trying to take out another armies outpost and such.

Like I said, I don't know that I'll actually buy the book, but I'll definately look through it. My gaming group is working up a huge terrain project to get us up to max Cities of Death over the summer, and Planet Strike's Firestorm might be fun. I really don't think we'll ever be playing Planet Strike (what is my friend's mech IG going to do as the Attacker? He as no deepstrikers), but I'm sure little snippets, and even some of the strategems, would carry over well to campaigns and CoD.

I would think that with 1 objective 1+ D6 firestorms might table certain armies before the actual game starts

A mech force can still attack a fortification can they not? he just doesn't drop anything in via deepstrike. He still gets an artillery barrage(via the firestorm) before he rolls up...
Whats the issue?
The rules work well for attacking fortifications regardless of if you deepstrike or not.
Also I keep seeing people say "I don't have six elites" or "I don't have six heavies" so I can't play.
I have rarely maxed out the increased force org categories as attacker or defender and guess what? The game is still playable and winnable from either side regardless.

True, but in that small of a game...I might have everything not on the objective in reserve as the defender.

Well CT Gamer, the problem is that if you don't have any deepstrikers or additional elites/FA, you aren't really doing anything with Planet Strike. So, he gets his Firestorm, but then it just becomes a regular game where his objective is to wipe out the last bastions. If we wanted to play a regular game, we would be, so we do. What is my Tau friend going to do as Attack? Assault with his suits? I just think that unless your army is actually geared for Planet Strike, you might as well be playing a regular game with the bombardment rules in the BRB.

Hey if you don't want to play it don't.
It's a great supplement that really shakes up the staleness and cookie cutter army lists that sometimes plague standard format, but I don't think anyone is gonna twist your arm and force you to play it. If you enjoy playing standard games then by all means carry on...

Absolutely True.
Hence why you make house rules.
I went through a 500 Point PS game, using only D3 firestorms.
Although you truly aren't getting the most out of PS with your armies, I see it like this.
Do you have more than 3 Elites Choices? Than PS is right for you!
Do you not have 3 Elites Choices? Fantastic! PS is still right for you!
Personally, It's seeing use in my Campaign (Which I'll be posting the rules for in the Campaign section)

Me and my group have been playing as often as possible.
It's very fun, as others have said, it mixes things up.
PS is fresh, and fun, the dang rulebook is like 20 something bucks. I recommend it to anyone who just loves good 40k games.
Obviously there can be some balance issues depending on points levels, and what armys are playing, but it's pretty easy to correct them with your opponent pre-game.
Overall it's a very visually stimulating game, and is a fantastic addition to the casual players arsenal.
