Yar!
Guys, I just don't know. Planet Strike doesn't look all that interesting to me. I dunno, I guess its designed for people with Apoc collections, with the spare units for a Planet Strike force, but I can't play at that level. Sure, massed Deepstrike is fun. Thats why people play Drop Pod SM and Chaos Daemons. I really can't see me caring though, unless my gaming group meshes it with Cities of Death. Dropping headlong into a Hive World ala Halo: ODST would be great fun. Planet Strike itself seems kinda.. bland? I mean, it SHOULD feel epic, but it doesn't seem to have any grimdark to me.
Your opinions! Go!

Should be cool for narrative type stuff. Probably won't buy the book unless it's ground shattering.
Scenery looks great but the price tag is hilarious. Sorry, GW. Not this time.

I like the look of the terrain kits, but the price is as ridiculous as ever. The Aegis line doesn't look too bad though. That will probably be the only purchase I make of the PS series in the next few months. A bastion would be a nice terrain piece, but I don't feel the need to buy it immediately.

It's games workshop making coin... LOTS of coin ;p
While i agree that most of the terrain is pretty much overpriced as ever the aegis defence line is a great little thing. 24" of wall sections and a free auto-turret is great, considering the nearest thing to the walls would be the MORE costly wall sets you can buy (either ork or random terrain, your pick).
The landing pad looks great with lots of sections to fiddle around with.... the only setback is that the cost is just sad.
The Bastion is a very nice looking little bunker you can place, but the price is even more sad than the landing pad. Another major thing that annoys me to no end is that the bastion's guns on the walls CAN'T move or rotate... i mean come on!

I am totally stoked about Planetstrike.
The price will be expensive, but then again, when isn't GW raising prices?
This adds a whole new level of play to my games that I am just excited to play.

I wouldn't call it a money grab, as it's a new product. It would be like calling it a money grab if they created a new trrop choice for an army or something. Anyways, it's a whole new way of playing the game. I've played a couple of demo games for it and last night played a massive 4000 point a side game as part of the release event and I gotta say, I like it alot better than vanilla WH40K. Apocalypse was a nice expansion, but so much of it ends up being who can bring the most armor and pie plates to the table. That, and I can never seem to get anybody to agree to play apoc. Planetstrike is much more accessible because it can be played on it's own so smaller points battles or with the apoc rules for truely massive battles. Beside the ruleset, the terrain is very nice. That's my take on it anyways.

You know that you don't have to buy their (GW) terrain to play, right? You can always use/make your own, or use a friends, or the terrain at the FLGS. The only thing I plan on buying for Planetstrike is the book itself.

Dayum. I'm lucky enough to live in a city saturated with GW stores. I just picked up the book last night at the release event, but I saw people walking out with two bastions, a couple of the defense line sets and a skyshiled landing pad (I wish I had that kind of disposable income lol).

Lol, I never thought of it like that. I conceed to you Sir. I had a bunch of extra stuff anyways for variety and such, so it's not a big hit on me, but I I only had enough to fill out a standard Force Organization Chart I could definitely see a grab for cash on GW's part.
It is a fun expansion from the games I've played so far though.

I think it's a gimmick to sell terrain people could easily make themselves and to encourage all the spess marehnz players to buy 5-30 more terminators.
I mean lets face it, with the new rules if you spam out X dozen termies you'll win quite a bit.
Also, is it just me or did GW really, really overprice the Spear of Sicarius box set? We looked at what was offered and thought, '20% discount off of $35, multiply through by the number of units offered'. Our price was something like $800, their price is over $1000. Even without the box set discount, the price is (unless we all fail at math or missed a unit) about $50 too high.

The only reason I enjoy Cities of Death is that I love urban combat. I love it in any good FPS, I love to watch documentaries on WW2 or other urban conflicts. Playing in a Hive factory is great fun, but have you ever played a gamma level encounter with regular rules? It gets slowed down to a snails pace. 75%+ terrain scapes need a rules modification, but this? Yes, this is just a money grab. I'll probably read it illegally to grab some ideas for some scenario rules for my friend's 'Nids and other friends IG for our campaigns, but I don't really think I'll actually get around to playing Planetstrike. I don't have the collection to slam down 4 Terminator squads or 5 Obliterator cults. Mass deepstrike attack and defend scenarios just don't need rules modification, they function fine on their own (see Chaos Daemons and SM Drop Pod Assault). Automatically Appended Next Post: I hope this doesn't auto-append...
So, now I want to shift the thread over a bit. If this post does get auto appended, I'll make a new thread (for anyone who comes back and reads this). Now that Planet Strike is out, share your experiences! That is all.

Totally stoked. I think it looks great, the book is cool, the terrain is cool (sans the terrible quality blast-scapes that I will be attempting to return or swap this weekend), and it opens up all sorts of possibilities with narrative campaigns and whatnot.
More expansions I say. New Codices just bring dread to players as we await to see which of our units have been nerfed/rendered illegal/removed from the game. Expansions just give us more options.
