Agree with WillyD. Chaos has better troops. Loyalists have better... everything else. Each codex has got to focus on its strengths, and unfortunately that gives Loyalists a slew of options while Chaos has... one. Maybe two, maybe. Every effective chaos list is probably going to be some variation on Dudes in Rhinos, and it's just a sad fact.

Something I'd point out is that the list I originally proposed to Lord-Loss had Lascannons in the Rhino Chaos Space Marine squads for precisely the reason that stuff like Vendettas and Valkyries were going to be around. Lascannons are good against transports, which is why the list that I proposed packed six of them, two at BS4, and four at BS3 twin-linked.

Btw...a rhino rush with berzerkers works pretty well in the Chaos list if you're not trying to win all the time. Actually I've been having alot of fun with a "World Eaterish Monster Mash". The berzerkers in rhinos are very useful for breaking out dreads from combats against hordes.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

The problem with Berzerkers in Rhinos is that you can't assault an enemy in the same turn you dismount, and Berzerkers that aren't in combat are being wasted. You pay a premium for the Land Raider, but being able to get Berzerkers into combat with an enemy 20" away in a single turn, reliably and with that AV14 protection, and after cracking the transport with Lascannons, is good.

Unless I'm either;

A) running my nurgle Twin-claw termis
B) Running abaddon with 8 khorne escorting him
or
C) Running khorne at 2k+ points

I RARELY run Land raiders. They're nice and all, but a 240 point sink to get 1 unit into assault is a BIT much. As other said, my Plague marines in rhinos normally outperform and are way harder to kill.

Don't get me wrong, I love LR's. But we don't get multi-meltas on em like SM's, and our add-ons are pretty lackluster. They're basically just AV 14 troop transports for chaos, period.

I know they can't charge out of it when the rhino moves.
But they can charge next turn:
2" disembark +.99" outof the 2" +12 effective range, that's 14.99". A small bonus there.

But the idea is counter charge.

But, the (Plague) Spear type of list with assault elments in LR and supporting shootng squads in RHIno is great, prob. better.

But zerkers in rhinos do work well enough.

It's something to note that they're not Space Marine Land Raiders, and that if you use them as such you're not going to get the best out of them.

Chaos Land Raiders needs to either move 12", or sit still and hammer. Think of them as closer to a heavily armoured Razorback rather than a Space Marine Land Raider.

Getting Havoc Launcher, Combi-Weapons, Daemonic Possession, Extra Armour, and Dirge Casters suit their role as assault vehicle well.

If you're using them purely as an assault vehicle, then Extra Armour and Dirge Casters are good enough because they're moving 12" and not firing anyways, and tank shock will prepare the impending victims for the assault. A Combi-Weapon, like a Melta or Plasma will help knock troops out of a transport prior to the assault if you're close enough.

Daemonic Possession and Havoc Launchers are good when you want to use them as infantry fighting vehicles. The Daemonic Possession may reduce their BS, but all their weapons are twin-linked anyways, and always being able to fire at BS3 is better than sometimes being able to fire at BS4.

Havoc Launchers combine with Heavy Bolters to form some decent anti-infantry firepower, and Heavy Bolters and Lascannons are good for cracking enemy transports and light vehicles.

Remember that Land Raiders aren't just transports, but that they're huge and can block lines of sight to stuff and give cover to other vehicles. They're great for getting Rhinos and Vindicators into range as well as delivering assault troops.
