Gee whiz, did you read my post? They came out right after Tau and a year and a half before 5th edition. There were 3-4 codexes after Eldar before 5th edition. There have been 6-7 codexes (depending on the date of the Blood Angel's WD pamphlet) that have come out since Codex: Eldar. That doesn't mean they are not competitive or in dire need of an update, but it does mean they did not come "out just before 5th ed arrived and so is rather new, when compared with Tau".

I'm not talking about rules or winning games but just the concept. When writers sit down to work on Eldar they are supposed to be making the ultimate warriors/technology/psychic/aestetic army.

And they're usually not up to the challenge.

Yes it is different. Marines are humans +1, bigger, stronger, faster.

Elfs are just better in every way and if their stats aren't better they get gimmicky rules instead.

Elfs are not better in every way, it's why they pay a lot for their stuff. Those 30-odd pt SM Transports are categorically superior for the points..

The Space Marines are better than humans in every bodily and mental aspect. They are better in every way, equiped with better wargear and standard vehicles. I don't understand how that is different.

The Eldar are also better in everyway, but only in one way at a time. That is their thing: specialization. They are so specialized, they have four different melee specialists. That is their draw-back. They are almost too specialised and require expert cohesion, otherwise your specialists will not be able take all comers (ie, Banshees against Orks).

In every video game, and the majority of literature the Eldar are refered to or are major players. They get regular codex updates and consistantly do well in competitions. I'm not certain this thread is warrented, but I enjoy the discussion.

The Phoenix Lords are part of the Eldar fluff and should stay in a new codex.
I remember that Iyanna and Rough Rider Chief have been dropped in the 4th ed codex.
