I think you should wash the red shoulder pads with baal red and it needs a bit more highlighting overall.

He is not a target as he is ambushing an enemy column or convoy from a ruin of some kind (also in the fluff story) But thanks for the thoughts. Keep it coming!

I mean, not trying to be a douchemonkey or anything. It just doesn't seem like a good idea, even if you're leading an ambush.

Well, ESPECIALLY if leading an ambush. Standing up with binoculars and shoulder braiding just screams that something can reveal you to the enemy.

Personally? I'd have made some Forward Observers like the Narmenians used in "Necropolis"(book 3 of the Gaunt's Ghosts series. Last one in "The Founding" omnibus. Details the Siege of Vervunhive).
By that I mean: they set up a running line of observers on foot, who then signalled back to the Sentinels...who then signalled the main force for the massive, massive synchronized assault. The observers and Sentinels then worked in concert feeding data to the tank brigade.

I like it all and have suscribed! Though I must admit that my first reaction to your pictures was to consider making my own ruined building with wooden floors.

Inspiration is a good thing! Now get back to work before we send the Commissar over!

@Kanluwen- I get ur point, this was just an idea i'd had and wanted to put into practice, I'll have a kinda spotter on another command sentinel. Thanks for the point.

@ JB- The floor was made from the free wooden stirrers that you get in Starbucks, just weathered slightly! And yes sir!

I hope to do a bit more painting on my veteran squad today, but may not hav much time with the rugby being on and whatnot!

My plans for this army is to have the rest of the force mechanised. That way the platoon will be holding my objective while mech veteran squads whizz around being annoying and capturing other objectives.

My question to you all is, Should I get the Shotgun upgrade pack from FW for the next veteran squad??

Please comment guys, I need feedback.

I like shotguns for mechanized veterans since you'll likely never shoot 24" anyway. Right now I only have enough shotguns for the squad leaders but I'm working on a few more so I can upgrade at least one of my two mech vet squads.

You don't have to use FW. I did, but I see some other folks using SM scouts. FW may actually be more price effective. Do you live in the US or in England? Your location says Edinburgh but your flag is American.

I would use shotguns with melta and grenade launcher squads. With plasmas i would stick with lasguns as plasma squads in chimeras remain stationary sometimes.

For the models: use SM scout shotguns OR really easy way to convert a shotgun from lasgun is to cut the magazine, cut end of the barrel to be as long as the bottom one and then cut the lenses (the aiming thing on the top of the gun or whatever is that called). Attached bayonets are cut off too. I have all my vets with shotguns like this and they look really good being slightly different from a lasgun while remaining nice looking.

They look good! I quite like the bases, they're quite plain but with the style being a bit minimal 9not intended as a critism!) I think the bases quite suit them. As for your request for critisms I think the edging on the uniforms could be improved just by a thin black line to separate them from the rest of the jacets. Simple way is to paint them black then go over with the colour (blue etc) leaving a small amount showin. Would make it stand out much more. Love some of those facial expressions you've got in there! Keep up the work. I'd like to see more of them

In my view, you should use shotguns whenever available. Not for any tactical advantage, but because you look more badass. I have a 10 man scout squad all with shotguns, and the Sgt has a power fist . . . looks awesome when they walk onto the board kill no-one from shooting and then the Sgt wins the day lol.

Cheers guys

@JB- I am in The proper Edinburgh, If you know how to change the flag or get it changed help me... I do like the FW ones tho, they look quite kl.

@w0chtulka- I may try that, I plan to hav a couple of squads armed like this, so I will make them different...I do like the FW ones tho...

@Covenant- Thanks, I take that kindly, I was going for a simple striking minimalist scheme anyway... I may try that line idea, Using pure black ink and running into the dip on the fatigues may work also...I shall see

@Oshova- Shotguns indeed look badass...But they are actually very good, Five SM scouts with shotguns (sarge had CCW and bolt pistol) Outflanked my mates demon army and put 2 wounds on a lord of change Who then flew away and wreked havoc elsewhere... These scouts then continued to fend off a weakened bloodletter unit! Don't doubt scouts w/ shotguns!!!!!!

Yeah, but don't forget that SM shotguns are S4 but the IG version are S3.

The beauty of IG shotguns for vets mounted in Valks/Vendettas/Chimeras is that you get to dismount, fire twice, and assault if you're so inclined. With lasguns you still get two shots but you can't assault.

The counter-argument is that you won't have many targets for an assault since the whole universe is more choppy and gribbly than IG. It's too bad you can't buy a commissar for a vet squad.

hmmm...They would still look cool, and if you arm the sarge with a PFand give the squad a heavy flamer then they can stand a chance...

Turn that heavy flamer into a regular flamer and I agree with you. The heavy version almost never gets to fire since the squad is usually moving. I do put heavy flamers as the hull weapon on my Chimeras.

My two mech vet squads stick to melta guns as their special weapon. Flamers are better for assaulting but I need the vehicle killing potential of the melta guns in my list.

But heavy flamers are also assault weapons... there is no down side

Well, Shazam...I never noticed that before. Obviously, I never use them. So now my question is whether you can take a heavy flamer, a regular flamer, and a heavy weapons team in a single ordinary squad?

Oops...I guess you can do it in a PCS or CCS but not in a ordinary squad. No heavy flamers for them.

Unfortunately progress has been slow, didn't really get anything done today (my life is FULL of distractions) and I'm not even an adult with a job and family yet...

Hopefully I will base some guys and make a start on the rest of the veterans. Also, any ideas on what to put on the base of the sentinel w/ HF??

I once did a cool diorama of an IG with a heavy flamer . . . used some of the old plastic GW trees, just used the trunks and made them look burnt. =]

What about a charred skeleton model? If a friend has a box of Vampire Count Skeletons, you might be able to trade for one. With a little conversion to pose it, some sand, powder, or grit glued to it in appropriate spots, and a nice dark charred paint job...voila!

please help me with the magnets...I really want flexability with hellhound variants especially

I've magnetised some of Da Dark Angelz - Deffkoptas (weapons) and Trukks (wheels) so far. Happy to try and help - I at least know some pitfalls to avoid!

So far, I'd suggest:
1) Use the biggest magnet you can for any given join.
2) Use more than one or a pin to stop sag.
3) Be consistent with polarities - this way you can move weapons and options between multiple models.
4) Find a way to line them up as perfectly as possible (still working on this...)

Made in us
Dakka Veteran

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

to line them up perfectly, I always place an extra magnet (typically a third one) in between the two that are being glued, it kind've acts like a spacer or a gap filler if the magnets won't quite make contact but still pull towards each other. First, I glue on of the magnets where I want it. Then, I place the spacer magnet and the other to-be-glued magnet on top of the first. Lastly, I put some glue on the top magnet and attach the plastic (or pewter in some cases) bit to it and wait for the glue to totally dry (less than a minute or up to an hour, why is beyond me). Once that's finished I just remove the spacer magnet and there ya are. Perfectly lined up magnets.

edit: Er, may be a tad confusing to some of us who don't speak English as a first language. Can post pictures upon request.

Lexx- thanks...I really enjoy painting vehicles, the infantry just have to be filler to make a legal army :(

CrashUSAR- err...thats kinda confusing, some pictures would be really helpful or even a tutorial (hint hint, nudge nudge) And do you hollow out where the magntes will go on the plastic part or just glue them straight on...don't really know how to start it :?
