I've been hollowing out, though in a few places, when I get back to it, I think I'll be drilling plasticard to hold the magnets before gluing it on. (That probably made no sense at all...)

You are doing a great job with having your miniatures tell a story.

Alright, so my intrest in Guard has dried up atm. But, with the release of the new Ven. Dread my BR are getting their second coming!!

To fit these two armies together the fluff runs something like this:

The Red Shields are a Cadian force that were raised 200 years previously, having excelled on multiple battle fields they were moved around frequently, often plugging holes in overstretched battle lines, their mobile Mech. structure an enormous boon for many campaigns. For the past 20 years they have been in the Dark-Rung system in the Galactic NE. The systems main planet, a sprawling wasteland desert with huge continent sized Oasis's is called Preen; so named after the Imperial General that was raised here over 10000 years ago. Since the deserts are extremely hazardous to be in for sustained periods of time (even tallran companies have found it horrible) the people of Preen inhabit huge hive cities in the acres of woodland around the Oasis's. Due to the large amounts of gas given out by such a large city combined with the humid equatoral climate thick cold fogs often settle over the area, this is where the Red Shields distinct shoulder pad colour came from, they would identify each other through this fog by the red of a shoulder pad!

Preen and its neighbouring planets are vital points on the frontier, for they not only remain fiercely loyal but also are perfect staging grounds for any assaults on the surrounding galaxies and even countering any assaults from the void. TarnBeck is the home to a large naval dockyard. Due to its vital positioning the Imperium has kept a wary eye on the area, peculiarly the system has been bypassed by 4 Tyranid hive fleets. it was attacked by splinters of 2 of these fleets but the main body sailed past, intent on other larger systems. The latest of these were defeated by a combined effort from the Red Shields (suffering heavy casualties) and the BR 3rd and 9th company who have been present in the system since that narrowly averted disaster (they have always had a keen interest in the area due to the high number of aspirants that they can gain from the area).

Recently,and to the displeasure of many in the imperial heirarchy the planet on the outskirts of the system has fallen out of communication with the rest of the system, 4 scout squads from the Blood Ravens were sent to infiltrate the Scarth Dell's defences and find out what had happened. Among then was Sergeant Corallis, a veteran from the wars on Tartarus and Kronus. His squad was the only to return, and they bore bad news. The planet had been infiltrated by agents of Chaos and had now turned from the light of the emperor. Along with this the Warlord Grotmuncha and his disturbed Mek Wazdog have started to take an interest in the system also, things getting uglu the Govener of the system met with Cpt. Angelos (Master of the Arsenal) of the BR 3rd to decide what to do, they agreed not to take action till more forces had gathered. calls were sent to the DA in the Rock, which was in a nearby system along with the other companies of the BR chapter, they all responded, the DA owing a debt to the BR from the previous Millenium where a BR captain died to protect the Chapter Master Azreal when his honour guard had died to a Necron Lord! The Blood Ravens have most of their aspirants obtained from this area since the destruction of Cyrene and their present Chapter Master himself comes from the Agri-moon of Kardoth 5.
The Dark-Rung system is about to be tested, and its loss could mean devastation for the Eastern sector.

Neat, you've done well there. I use diferent coloured shoulder pads to denote each section with my guards, so great minds must think alike?

I wouldn't go mad on faces, you're never gonna see them from 4 feet away anyway, but I would detail that flag a bit.

One tiny comment. The seal on the back of the Dread needs to stand out more from the rest of the engine. I know it's a tiny thing, but that just goes to show how good your painting is =p

Right, looking back on them i've just added stuff tomy guard that i like, so after the exams im gonna refine them, make veteran units (w/ shotguns) and then get some fun stuff.....i.e. a baneblade and other tanky goodness! So for now i just plan to work on the BR! cheers all

Ok... read through the entire thing and I really like em!

1) Your guard need to have some sort of markings for squad/regiment delineation.
2) The shoulder pads on the Blood ravens look a little yellow in the photo, is that how they look in RL? I tend to think Blood Ravens should be more bone colored.

Keep Painting I want to see more pictures of new models.

1) Yeh, I tried putting on the transfers and they a) came off really easily about a week later or b) just would not go on.... rounded shoulderpads!!!!

2) They are a lot more bone coloured in real life, i took these pictures quite quickly and the light was kinda yellowy so they didn't come out great!

Ok well I guess you are just gonna have to work on free hand painting your shoulderpads. Here is what you do, you go get a mechanical pencil, lightly draw out everything on the shoulderpads, then paint it up.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far, besides one little problem I have with your backstory. If memory serves right, the first recorded Necron encounter, the Sanctuary 101 massacre, happened 100-300 years ago, a bit late for your Necron lord last millennium. You can keep your background as it is; I'm just a little nitpicky with these things. Otherwise, I'm liking the colourscheme and idea behind it. And might there then be a bit of Dark Angel involvement in with your forces?

Get some http://www.houseofhobbies.com/sodeseso.html and it will help loads after it dries spray with some dullcoat and it won't go anywhere.

Brother-Pilot Larsa is the most prominent Land Speeder pilot in the Imperium today, he operates in his Land Speeder tornado The Ravens Talon and has won honours so numerous that he has been seconded to the Deathwatch for covert operations twice, the most a pilot ever has been. These awards festoon his Land Speeder and he is celebrated amongst his company. He first made his name when he carried out an upper atmosphere manoeuvre out of an exploding Thunderhawk. he continued to (with the help of his then gunner Petr Gorlan) He took out 5 talon bombers and saved the Advancing Imperial force from extensive bombing!
I will be entering this model in a competition my local store is running and hope to finish him by the weekend.

I'm liking the background behind your land speeder driver. He gonna get some cool special rules to back up his destructive power?

That background is simply my garden But thank you anyway My dad would take that as a compliment to his gardening skills I reckon.

I may create some rules for him, Like he would make a good Counts As Sammael from the DA codex. I'll have to think about it.

@Arakasi- Yes I see that now :*(, the garden is not blurry as much as the camera can't multi-task (focus the back and foreground) making it a guy camera definitely!!

Hey man, heck of a blog you have here. I have a guard army myself and I love that sentinel pilot. Idc what anyone else says, a commander popping up over the top hatch to shout some minute order through the fog is bad ass to me.

"Commander Wade cursed the fog, "Emperor be damned!" he thought. Too long had the regiment been on this backwater planet, too many deaths, too many friends lost to the warp. But now, with the enemy forward column moving towards his position, Wade gripped the controls of his Mk IV Sentinel with relish.
He reached up and through the roll bars of Old Greisha, the name of his trusty walker, to shout an order through the dense fog. Wade's recon platoon had been waiting in the wings for this enemy unit for three days, the weathered commander had no need to worry about lurking enemy infiltrators as he shouted, "Mack! North East! Zero that column and wait for my order!" His second, Mack Bensen, nodded curtly and passed the order to the other pilots, Zerth and McCann...

Wade ducked back inside the role bars of Old Greisha, he lit his last remaining ursarian cigar from that old campaign and smiled as he flipped up the safety on the trigger of his Lascannon. The warning light on the trigger handle changed from a blood red to an enticing green with a low beep.

In the relief of the cigar light inside the cabin of old Greisha, Wade smiled as he pulled the trigger over and over again..."

For everyone now, the Red Shields are going to undergo a large makover that involves scrapping alot and tuning my army into a more mechvet style with as many tanks as possible...as you may guess im a bit of a treadhead!

but not to worry, my love for sentinels shall continue.

If only these cursed exams could finish :(

Leighton Marko, the company's marksman looked down the street through the roiling fog toward the city gates. It had been three hours since the wall had been breached, three hours of tense, cramp inducing waiting.

A shape began to appear in the haze, a grotesque and bloated outline that shuffled as it moved closer. Looking down his sight Marko took aim where the things head was and pulled the trigger. The lasgun's crack rang out through the building and Marko heard the troopers in the room below scramble to their entrenched positions. He watched the shot hit home and even heard the dull squelch as it impacted but the creature continued to move. it had shrugged off a direct head shot as if it were little more than an irksome marsh-fly. a feeling of panic crept into Marko's gut. Never had something like this happened, never, in 15years of dedicated service to the Emperor. Even the fallen astartes could be felled with a sniper shot to the right place. he fired again, in case he had missed and hit another. This time he saw the shot impact on foetid, green skin. The creature had stepped out from the fog and could now be seen clearly. It was a decaying, slimy mockery of a human and Marko felt the hairs on his neck stand on end. He felt a fear he should not feel, Marko the finest shot in the Cadian 32nd, the Red Shields had never felt fear like this.

"By the Golden Throne what is that thing?" asked Commander Preen as he arrived on the rooftop. More of the creatures were emerging now, and from their gaping mouths a sonorous chant droned.

"I don't know," replied Marko "but with respect sir, you'd better have a fething good plan!"
