Fortunately, the new kit comes with an option for an old-style left arm if you so desire.

Incomplete kit. It doesn't even come with the Ven Dread's default Codex weaponry, and is missing numerous weapon options as well. Given GW's kick with putting everything on the sprue, this is troubling.

Then it looks like I might swap my 5 year old normal Dreadnought for a Venerable one
I'm glad you're not forced to have that oversized power fist, just looks too plain compared to the rest of it.

From what i see on the picture... I think that...

The hand looks stupid, and logically it would never work (there's no way it could bend around to grab stuff and still have good crushing power). Also, i like the normal 4 point hand, its more logical and it would hurt more to get crushed by it.

I don't like all the random golden plates on this Dread, it makes it look too egyptian.

I liked the old Washing Machine more, it looked more regal and important. It gave a Dreadnought "status".

Im relatively happy about it, mostly cause it comes with a plasma cannon, and I like the front sarcophagus, though its not as cool as the FW one. I'll pick one up for my Space Wolves in any case (whose dreads come with assault cannon by default)

I think it's awesome. 1000x better than the last one for sure.

Look at the sprue's, there's plates to cover up the writing if you don't like it. Options galore!

I second this motion.. I already have my advance order in for three.

I like the fact that the power fist actually looks like a powerfist!!

I never liked the previous cylindricle versions or even the claw version that Bjorn and some of the newer models wield.

They should have gone with something similar, yet closer to what Forge World does.

Other than that, I rather like it!

(Well, that and the fact that they should have given us weapons options that we DON'T currently have in plastic, rather than another twin-linked lascannon and missile launcher...)

There's a current dreadnought plastic plasma cannon?

And I like the "hand", though it seems this would be the first time GW is using an idea from Warmachine.

The current metal venerable dread has the hand. Not sure how old the sculpt is, but I suspect it predates Warmachine.

No wiseguy, there isn't.

I was talking about the weapons options that we already have in plastic, and don't need again (see the bold/underlined parts above).

SO, for example, a plastic twin-linked autocannon would have made a lot of people happy...

But you have tl autocannons on the aegis set. I'm using them on my dreads now.

I don't understand why they wouldn't include the base options for the dread though.

Not quite. The current metal Venerable Dread has a "3 and 2" finger arrangement. Not one mirroring a human's "4 and 1". But the current Ven Dread kit definitely does not predate Warmachine stuff!

Additionally the kit comes with panels you can use to cover up the writing, and a regular Washing Machine-Pattern sarcophagus for everyone who hates the helmet.

So panic not over a couple of pictures.

My concern, and anyone with an Iron Clad might be able to answer this for me, but will this dread take arms from the other plastic Dreads (or the FW Dreads, for that matter).

Are the current Marine Dreads (Black Lagoon starter Dread not included) all compatible as far as arms go?

As someone who converted Ironclad CC arms and IG Punisher Gatling Cannons into Twin-Linked Autocannons, I can tell you that the Ironclad arms fight perfectly onto the normal Dreadnought body.

It doesnt look too venerable at all.... more like a common Dreadnaught, that been around for a few centuries.... Big deal it has all the names its been too...
Most marines have been in half those battles( veterns)....
I would use it as a regular Dread.
IF you add more seals , and scrolls, and inlaid art work, making it a walking tomb then yeah venerable for sure, like the old one is...
when i saw the old one first thing that pop into my mind was somepoor marine is entombed in there for deeds done.....
this one Im waiting for some one to pop open the hatch and say, can i have big burger and fries and a uber larger drink to go......

I need a ven-dread for my new all dreadnought army. In fact, I will probably get one FW one and one plastic one, the Forge World option is actually cheaper in this case! Especially because I have so many extra arms laying about.

4500 points Empire 80-90% painted!

I just always thought that power fists punched stuff. I haven't read much space
marine fluff, though. Maybe the problem is the proportions just don't look right on
the boxy Dreadnought?
