I do not smoke, although I did not vote in the poll as I'm under the age (at least a for a few months). I don't plan on smoking once I am of age though, do to the health concerns as well as the stench. I do however plan on getting a victory cigar, primarily for the purpose of having it should the need arise.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd smoke, because smoking is cool, and try and develop a cigarette that heals your lungs rather than destroys them.

Good point, why don't we have cigarettes that aren't as bad? Todays technology would make you think they could.

Of course to do that you'd have to remove the Nicotine, and I think we all know why they won't do that

I smoke rollies which i put down to the massive amounts of weed i used to smoke back when i first started university. That stuff was easy to kick, sadly the need for nicotine has stayed with me :(

Gotta agree with Alba; I'm only gonna quit when I'm ready, no point otherwise. I guess if i get my job with the NHS next year I'll have to at least try to pack it in; i don't think it would be acceptable for a radiographer to come into work reeking of smoke :S

Gave up nearly two years ago now since smoking 20 a day on and off for 10 years. Quitting is the best move I ever made, I feel so much healthier and I have noticeably more money to spend. Coincidentally enough, quitting smoking also coincided with a major upturn in fortunes in my life so it seems like I have a wonderful wife, child and house to thank for quitting smoking!

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I'm a non-smoker and was really happy when they banned smoking in pubs and clubs etc here in the UK.

Really glad that on the rare occasion I go out (as I don't drink either), I can come home and not stink of smoke.

Just a shame now you can't get in some places because of the solid wall of smokers blocking the doors...

And I hate the smell enough that if I am walking about in town, or waiting at a bus stop, I will move as far as possible away from the smoke. Which is not always possible at the bus stop outside where I work (a hospital), as pretty much everyone waiting for the bus there seems to smoke - coincidence?

Well, obviously I'm underage (although that doesn't stop a lot of people my age), but I never intend to pick up the habit. I can't stand the stench and I personally don't like the idea of inhaling anything toxic.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I put no, but I do smoke flavored tobacco on occasion from a hookah. This is rare though, once every 3-4 months.

But it is good stuff.

I don't smoke, drink or do any drugs

Usually tobacco will give me a huge headache for nearly the rest of the day, depending on how much it was of course a little tiny bit might not do anything, but if I'm standing next to two or so people smoking it will usually be enough after around five minutes. Both my grandparents on my mother's side died from cerebral aneurysms though, apparently related to their smoking.

I quit the big three (drink, drugs, cigarettes) all at once and I haven't looked back yet. I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day: not good. Anyway, don't buy all that "you can't quit, it's too difficult" crud; it's just a voice in your head. Ignore the voices in your head!

Don't smoke. The older I've gotten the more tolerance I have for other people smoking, but it distresses me if someone I care about smokes. I mean, it's mild distress, I'm not chewing my fingernails off or anything.
I don't think I could date a smoker unless she was very infrequent though- the smell and taste are disgusting, and the actual act is anything but sexy to me. Guess all those anti-smoking ads really worked on me!

That being said, I think a few unwritten rules need to be followed.

1) Don't blow smoke directly in someone's face.
2) Don't put the cig out on a table. (I've seen people do it, when an ashtray is right there, and it annoys the hell outta me.)

Something that really pisses me off about smokers though, is when someone who's like 13 smokes a pack a day.
I know I'm a hypocrite for saying something like that, given my love of alcohol, but it still pisses me off. Wait till you'r sixteen kid, then smoke.

I strongly agree with this. I'm annoyed by it despite I'm a smoker myself. You still have to show respect to people even though you're smoking.

Nice to know someone agrees with my viewpoint.

My older brother drives my to and from places every now and again, and he smokes.
He puts the window down in the car when he does, and puts the ciggie out in an ash tray in the car.

I figure everybody else has done it so far, so I will to.
I tried smoking on three seperate occasions. I got one drag, then put it out after that one. Each time.

I much prefer drinking, but I haven't done that in a long while. I kinda miss it.

I do not indulge in drugs/alcohol of any kind, so the answer here is a firm no. I also really don't like being around people when they're smoking, as the smell bugs the hell out of me.

I used to be pretty judgmental but I'd like to hope I've cooled my perspective over the last few years (meeting new people, seeing others' perspectives, etc).

Basically I'm in WarOne's camp though.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I don't smoke, I can barely run around the barn as it is. I do drink, however. "How much rum do you drink?" "How much was in the bottle?" Not to make light of such a serious behavioral pattern as, drinking a lot, such as the beeer I just happened to enjoy last night as a matter of fact. I mean it was just one beeer. It is not like I drank the WHOLE BOTTLE of the, glass, the beeer came in. I could go for a beeer. It's not like I called in sick yesterday, from my job I have, went out to do a run and like, didn't run, because I figured I could go to the gym today, which I didn't do, in fact I was in a pretty good mood really considering well I went out for that beeer last night. Hot Asian, cool Asian, chill sports-watching dudes and cool chick with her two dudes she had, the wimpy one hated me. It is not like I have some kind of a PROBLEM where I DRINK BEEER all the time.

At the backend of a big night I'll smoke a couple, if only because it's fun to point a cigarette at someone while you're making your point. Or if a pretty girl is smoking and I want to start a conversation I'll ask for a light.

I have no moral position over smoking, plenty of friends do and they manage it in a simple, unobtrusive way, so why should it bother me? That said, I never got why people smoke tobacco - it doesn't seem all that pleasant and it doesn't get you high. I understand people get addicted, but why smoke in the first place to get addicted?

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I don't smoke, but growing up in pubs (my mum was a landlady rather than an alcoholic!) I was always surrounded by smokers and as such don't have a problem with it.

The only exception is when smokers get extra breaks at work, when I questioned my previous boss about it and asked if he gave extra breaks for other drug addictions he couldn't come up with a good answer, so I started to take smoke breaks of my own and just go for a walk around the building

In my experience people either start smoking young, for the 'coolness' factor, or in college for the 'I need to pull 2 consecutive all-nighters' factor or the 'I can't afford food, so I'll bum a cigarette' factor.

Good attitude in this forum. Nice all.

Im 33 and so far I have seen 2 people die from smoking. Scariest I have ever seen.

Nothing more weird on a holiday then to be at the snow, beautiful sunny day on the mountain, enjoying the crisp air and outdoor snowboarding... only to smell cigi smoke. Man that ruins yours experience.

I have also noticed, with the ladies, the non smokers look SO much better at 30. Seems to make one's skin look "older". Wan't to look younger? Don't smoke. Haha.
