It is not as big as the other two but we have at our flgs regular buyers of the stuff, I have seen it played regularly at the GW stores around here. A big wotr battle just 2 weeks ago for example.
The german forum for the games is quite active, too. And if I had more time I wouldn´t have sold my wotr army I snagged of E-bay cheaply some months ago. As I like the gamesystem aeons better then Whfb. Thus I like the direction it seems to be heading to.

You know, I've often wondered about this myself. I have played at several independent and GW stores over the last few years, and LotR games are rare. However, I have to believe that, given how bottom-line minded GW is, that this system must be turning a profit for them.

In that context, the idea that this game is mostly played in private venues would make a heck of a lot of sense...

Given how may people say "why dont they just drop LotR already? Its just a junk game taking up space in my hallowed White Dwarf. LotR is so dumb. Who plays this stupid game?" I cant say I blame anyone for not publicly playing it. Especially when there is annoying little kids running around telling you how their space marines would kick Gandalf's ass.

Who wants to be subjected to that crap?

I do have to say that those Manta numbers aren't always correct as they are very rough estimates and can be off by quite a ways. My old painting business was listed on Manta a few years ago and the numbers they listed were VERY inflated. My $30K a year side job was listed as raking in over half a million.

Bottom line is, only PP and their accountants know what their actual profits are.

It is played a good amount at my GW but I cringe when thinking of playing it. Soo... boring.... Almost no conversions, imo ugly minis, I just don't like it.

Hi all.
As most GW stores are set up to prise cash out of pre-pubecents with shiney pretty things, and gloss over the actual game playing as much as possible.

And LoTR and WoTR are more about actualy playing the games than looking at pretty minatures.(As these rules sets have actualy been developed for game play! )

Most LoTR ans WoTR players stay away from cramped shops full of whiney ADHD kiddies drooling over pretty minatures ...and frequent actual games clubs where a happy and relaxed game between mature and knowlwedgable gamers happen.

So hardly any one plays LoTR or WoTR in a venue NOT suitable for playing the game , suprisingly.

BlutEisenRegel , I am sorry your venue for drooling over pretty minatures has been over run with actual gamers.

That's pretty funny. But I just don't like the rules and yes, there are plenty of ADHD kids, trust me. But that is not me. I spent the money to buy all my paints and things so that I could model at home and away from there. Plus, I only game with my friends, and we loathe the particular type of people you are talking about. Please don't generalize because I don't think that the models look good.

I have a cave troll and some moria goblins I got as soon as it came out. Painted them...badly. Never learnt to play it. Put them in a box. Haven't got them out since. I've never seen anybody play with any LotR stuff appart from a 40K game of apocalypse featuring Gandalf in a land raider....Good times

I think the playing of the systems is very regional.

Some countries we hardly sell anything too, others the volumes are higher by miles.

Mainland europe is stronger than the US or Asia/Oz/NZ etc.

Another thing to keep in mind. Most who would play WotR/LotR will frequent forums devoted to those games.

You will not see them here because who wants to hang out where your favorite game gets slagged constantly.
THat is one of the things that puts me off of the Privateer Press forums, the need to slag 40k and GW in general.

A solid majority of DakkaDakka is 40k-only players, or those who play a bit of everything.

but if they only went with wha sold we'd only have space marines supported, wait...
