Cool beans. I might have to invest in that... and a table... or I could play on the floor of my garage. I already have terrain in the form of a big ol' oil spot... Its a chaos-y lake

It's expensive ya, but you don't have to buy it. Other than that, I think it loos fantastic, would def consider one as a dip lay board!

Let's face it guys, nothing about this hobby is cheap anymore, let's not winge about the cost on non necessary luxury hobby items... I get it for things like the de beast costs, where you need to spend 200+ bucks if you even want to field the unit you need/want to play the game, but in this case, it really just comes down to liking it or not.

Just IMO, frankly I think 100 bucks sounds about right and fair for a piece of fw terrain of that size and detail...

Will get it... not sure if I'll get it now or wait untill there is a second matching tile.
It will look out of place by itself.

I'm so getting two of these pieces once they hit the online store.

Might it be so that the out of stock terrain items that disappeared early march will be redone in this type of resin? Seems like "another type" is used, and hopefully it's way less brittle compared to the regular resin FW uses. Perfect for terrain pieces where detail really isn't key.

Sexy board is sexy. I am loving this.

By Slaanesh, I'm tempted... How does resin fare on the boat/plane from Britain to the Oz?

Main concern with this board would be warping.

This would NOT be fun to try and bend back into shape using some hot water and a hairdryer like the rest of the stuff that forgeworld makes.

60 GBP is the set price right now.

Bunkers are 20 GBP (the old one with Heavy Bolters in it) to 21 GBP(the Krieg scenery piece is 21) to just 16 GBP for an empty bunker. There's two bunkers, albeit without tops, used in constructing that piece.
The trench system(which it looks like they used multiples of to make the walls for the strongpoint) is 35 GBP.
Tank traps are around 18 GBP each.

That's around 93 GBP in scenery bits alone, at least if you bought FW.

Could probably make it cheaper if you browse around, but eh. Dunno.

your whole argument is based on the premise that those individual terrain pieces are not ALSO overpriced... something that i think a fair amount of people here would probably say is true. either way, GW/FW isn't forcing anyone to buy the terrain.

@MajorTom: i agree that the hobby is expensive but some of us got into it when its wasn't even close to the extent that it is now, i.e. when it was alot closer to other "toy" purchases. obviously quality has increased (and the rest of the industry has made a very successful effort to catch up or even surpass GW in its race to most expensive toy soldier by weight game) also but being nostalgic for cheaper times is unavoidable.

Maybe, but I don't really look for terrain too much these days.
I've got a few pieces of FW terrain, eyes on some Pegasus stuff, and a few Imperial Strongpoint sets that I got on discount from the FLGS. That's just for my 40k table that I'm planning.
I didn't find the prices for any of those too bad. It's nice, it's premade, and it's thematic.

I can honestly say that since 1997, when I first really got heavily involved into 40k/Fantasy and miniatures/modeling in general...I can't really think of anything ever being "toy purchase" priced.

How is it impractical? I think the board is pretty practical. A huge 2x2 brick of resin sounds too fragile though.

It's apparently hollow, but that would still be a heavy piece. I'm wondering if it's their usual resin, or some sort of expanded material like the OOP terrain pieces that GW did a while ago. The close-up of the FW tile in another thread suggests that the detail is slightly 'soft', which would support this.

Not whining about it, but there is more competitively priced stuff out there when it comes to terrain. Add in the that GW upped the price of the RoBG two times prior to its release and it was definitely enough for me to buy a Zuzzy mat and plenty of terrain to game with. Once painted, the stuff looks ace and no more difficult to transport as a RoBG and accompanying terrain. As there aren't really alternatives for their minis, we pay for what we want (as you stated, this is a luxury item), but when it comes to terrain, there is great competition out there and GW, IMO, made an error in their pricing with the RoBG.

It's a nice piece, but definitely not enough to get me to drop $400 for a RoBG and this single tile.

On another note, how sturdy with this piece be compared to the plastic pieces? And does it utilize the same clip system as the RoBG?

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Now that is scenery! I am certainly considering getting this monster, the detail seem sto be excellent and would make a perfect display board, the price seems to be reasonable compared to other products, an great peice of scenery!

I really like that piece of terrain but I wont buy it, because the money will be invested in the Shadowwraith(was that the name?) and some of the other Eldar FW stuff.

According to a few people that got to see it at the FW open day, the detail on the board is very crisp and includes a lot of detail you can't see in the photos. Don't forget that the board is supposed to be all muddy/snowy so some of the details would, naturally, be fuzzy.

The material is supposed to be a yellow-ish resin, rather than the normal grey. Make of that what you will.

yeah,
Oh noes FW are releasing tile variations and will charge you some money!!!

If you don't want modular terrain that's cool, don't buy them.

If you can't afford £60 tiles that's cool, don't buy them.

HMBC doesn't like hills on his table, that's cool too, he doesn't have to buy them (I'd like it more if he shut up about the fact the ROBB has a multiconfigurable hill (now with optional echo base!) because sometimes you know you don't want a hill to be there (yawn) ... but mostly you do want a hill because flat terrain sucks balls)

Some of us think this is awesome!
I think some of the dakkanauts need to rethink their objections...

But right now I think some people are gaking on this awesome tile because it's not what they are buying into.

Panic...

I think it looks amazingly good. I find the RoBG board too expensive, personally, but the expansion seems relatively well-priced considering the amount of detail on it and the compatibility with the existing RoBG pieces. If it's the start of things to come, I could even see myself someday buying an RoBG -- but only if I am ever living somewhere that doesn't already have an 8' x 4' table.

Absolutely love it! Fantastic piece of terrain from FW. I just hope it isn't too fragile, as a major selling point of the RoBG is its durability. Annoyingly I have £80 set aside for model buying this summer. Iwas going to buy two Valkyries, but I may have to reconsider that now.

Also just realised that this terrain perfectly complements the Haz-op Cadians FW brought out. Cunning...
