Microtransaction system....HA!

Not sure whether i'm liking the thought of these new fliers. It'll be interesting to see whats changed though. I've a strong feeling the codex's of the next edition are either going to swap over the highley competitive army's or bring the less competitive upto speed. Either a role reversal or a balance. Judging from past experiance, probably the former >.< Having said that, I enjoyed playing guard and getting pummelled through 3rd and 4th ed. Theres something about been an underdog that makes that occasional victory so much sweeter.

Statistically, you will almost certainly die when assaulting a well-maintained fortress with a competent commander. You must strive to make your death useful.

Your foe is well equipped, well-trained, battle-hardened. He believes his gods are on his side. Let him believe what he will. We have the tanks on ours.

I have a feeling that my green tide will be severly hampered by 6th edition, what with the alleged new wound allocation system, and random charge lengths, as well as AP in CC (the only time my boyz ever get to use an armour save) means that it will be much harder to get into CC, and when I'm there I'm going to lose models much faster, and my PK won't be in combat from the get go (because they would be removed first in shooting if they are at the front).

Looking at the rumors 6th will be all about shooting, like 2nd/3rd edition where everyone sat in their deployment zones and shot at each other, so probably considering that vindis are both very shooty and have the armour of accountancy (it's SM, it sells, of course it's going to be better) I guess they'll get a buff in 6th.

And before anyone says anything, no I will not buy another army from GW just to stay in the game, considering that 1 GW unit costs ~£30, when I can buy a starter box for Bushido/Dystopian Wars/etc for the same price, I will be exploring the wonders of other games, rather than forking out an obscene amount of money just so I can actually win a game once every so often.

You can't take the rumors you heard out of context of the rest of the rulesystem. What if ork boys are moving 8" and can charge another 8". Saying that 'my army will be killed by 6th edition' before you have even seen the rules seems a bit unreasonable, don't you think?

I will admit I'm a little testy about 6th at the moment, so far all the evidence points to anything that is fragile, isn't in power-armour and is CC based is going to have a bad time. However I will point out that all the rumours indicate that charge distances are 2D6 pick the highest, so it's unlikely my boyz are going to be charging 8"

Also, I can't comment on the pic as I can't see it, I'm in work so most images are blocked (bandwidth more than content I believe).

The pic is Nerd Rage

Again, you can't pick out the rumors and put them into the context of the 5th edition ruleset. Take the charge distance rule -- that rumor would have you think that you can charge on average 4". If you take that and put it into 5th edition ruleset, it absolutely sucks balls. But what if the orks can now move 6", run 6" and then charge ~4"?

The fact is we don't know all the rules. A percentage of the rumors we have heard are made up crap just to f*** with your head. Wait another few weeks man before you fret.

Now, that being said -- it is possible that your green tide army will not be as effective without some changes. You might find out that the KFF is less effective and Kans are more effective, making kan walls the way to go. If AV 14 gives an extra damage point, then battlewagons become tougher and might worth fielding even as gun platforms. You just don't know -- I would be willing to bet that they would be overall minor changes to your green tide army. Sure, you might need to buy extra models, but you won't need to buy a new army.

Armies that spam specfiic kinds of units are much more likely to get burned. For example, draigowing armies or LR spam armies. Well rounded armies are less likely to be burned, and armies that utilize troop choices are less likely to be burned.

Well, since vindicators are pretty awful right now, I wouldn't worry about them getting "worse."

A few glances a turn silences a vindicator. Yuck. Way too expensive to be shut down so easily (chaos vindicators are much better, but chaos is awful right now, so it is a wash...)

Wait on the codex, read it, and play the game.

Since 6ed isn't even confirmed but likely to come out soon, don't worry about what it will do to your army because you can't change what does happen. The safest action to take is save your money and not but any more models because 6ed might make the new models you bought worthless.

Well, this is exactly what I'll do. However, I'll definitely buy a Stormtalon next time. It may fit into the new edition when the time of flyers will come.

New editions and books DO tend to change what's good. The folks who tend to get "screwed" and "need" to buy more models are folks who built a very narrowly-focused army and collection of models exclusively on whatever is best in the current rules.

If you have a variety of different units and models, you tend to ride out the edition changes and get to say things like "Hey, my transports are good again!", like those of us did who started in 3rd, played through 4th (where they were not very good), and then played 5th.

This should be stickied before the launch of every new GW edition. Dead on.

There is certainly some wisdom behind these words based on experience, and I guess that the 6th ed will show that these words are still true.

I almost fell off the toilet when I read that and yes I said toilet! So funny but oh how I would not be surprised if they found somehow to work that in. Imagine: you buy your new $80 hard bound codex only to discover that you need to purchase the special character "book" separatley for $19.99.

Yes, HOW DARE WE submit to a basic human fondness for winning? HOW DARE WE be human? I mean the audacity of us wanting to have a victory is just beyond imagining. Truly we are horrible, horrible examples of sapient life and should throw ourselves into the incinerator.

GW is loosing money, FAST. warhammer isn't popular..... its a dying game. Europe has no money rofl. If anything will happen at all Warhammer will become simpler. Its way to complicated to become more common and more popular. If you should expect anything its simplified rules, and less of them....

Warhammer is still vastly more popular than any of it's competitors. GW is far larger than any of it's competitors in the business. It's not that warhammer is dying, it's that the entire tabletop medium is kind of in the drainpipe because people are strapped for cash and compared to a video game, even the cheapest tabletop war game is vastly more expensive and vastly more time consuming, hence less desirable to the average person who wants the most bang for their buck and instant gratification. Once the economy takes an upturn things will return to normal.

I have no idea what makes you think GW is dying...I wasn't aware of any store closures, and like any company they won't shirk from cutting costs when times are hard.

It's not "idealogical". Saying that GW will charge people to win games is suggesting the stupidest possible business model ever. There's no way any business could fathom doing such a thing.

I was using the term Idealistic to mean "the opposite of cynicism" which has become a surprisingly common definition.
