That's a cool picture. I can see the script now.

Asurman: Stand firm valiant warriors! Today we shall add to the legends of our names!

Jain Zar: Asurman, there's something I've always wanted to tell you...

Asurman: Not now, Jain, I must compose my death song.

Jain Zar: Sigh....

Karandras (looking logingly at Jain): What an egocentric twit. (turns to look at nids brandishing claw and blade) Let's dance, ugly.

Maugan Ra: Today is a good day to die.

Fuegan: Geez, Ra get a new line already. Now where'd I put that flamer.

Baharroth (looking around, looks at his wings): C'ya guys! (flies off dropping grenades on the gargoyle brood).

Karandras: What an ***.

They were in 2nd ed when a Chaos Lord with all 4 marks, max psyker level, terminator armour, power fist and lightning claw could take an entire opposing army's shooting and combat, only be limited in the number of units he killed by the number of turns in the game.

So did that person also have troops as well as his uber lord or did it cost him over 9000 points?

Lol, I personally preferred Kharn with a unit of berzerkers using the outflank strategic card. Once they get in combat they would never leave.

OT: Hopefully will be getting a nice look at the black boxes next week, maybe even the codex if they arrive soon after. Will let people know what I find (unless of course some people beat me to it).

My fav was my 4th Level Inquisitor Lord packing Terminator Armour, Nemesis Great Sword, Psycannon, Aegis Suit and a Displacer Field. He once carved through 20 Khorne Berzerkers before annihilating a unit of 10 Berzerker Terminators.

So in 2nd Ed, that photo above would have been an awesome fight to play through.

I loved my nearly unkillable Chaos Lord with all 4 marks in terminator armor with his rerollable save of 2+ on 2d6, t5, lvl 4 psyker.

It once took nearly 2k points worth of Eldar to put him down. He also had Collar of Khorne so most psi powers just bounced off.

He was around the cost of 2 modern day LR's.

Characters could get pricy and unkillable in 2nd but nowhere near the points costs of the more Uber fantasy characters that exist now. I mean I've seen some that exceed 1000 points (or come damn close).

Yeah but Fantasy Characters have always been like that.

Remember when Engrim Van Horstman (or whatever his name was) first came out, riding his two-headed Chaos Dragon? That guy was 1200+ points I think. And no one seemed to bat an eyelid at that.

From what I've seen building a 2k army for Fantasy would be cheap dollarwise.

I'd have gotten into it but nobody in my group wants to and the nearest game store is 4 hours away, not an economical or safe drive in the winter.

Boycott? Yes Im still at it and going strong... and if i can resist bugs for undetermined time window, everyone can boycott

Those trygon pics are so sweet, and the cool thing is that its diferent enough from the FW trygon... so the FW one still has the diference and sharper detail edge going on for him.

So whats the difference between the Trygon and Mawloc? Just a different head, tail, and slightly wimpier arms?

Can you say magnets?

I can say "magnets", but I don't see what that has to do with the new Trygon kit. The Mawloc and Trygon share certain major parts of the head, only some parts are different. In other words, there are not two complete heads in the kit, therefore, you cannot just build two heads and swap them back and forth.

And with only one of a certain major component of the head in each Trygon kit, you can expect to pay a premium for that part at the Bits Store. You'll probably end up paying $15-$20 just for the head. It's like the Wings in the Chaos Possessed box, the whole box costs $26.50 US and people pay almost 50% of the cost of the whole box just to get the wings. Other examples include the Assault Cannon from Terminators, Lightning Claws from the Chaos Terminator Lord. Whenever there's only one piece or pair of something in an expensive plastic kit and that one piece or pair is highly sought after, it will be disproportionately expensive when compared to the cost of the whole kit.

I wonder why they think they don't need part numbering, given the complexity of some of these kits.

I used to throw blind grenades at that guy. Nothing quite so amusing as to see an uber-lord stumble out of smoke at half-speed in a random direction, unable to charge.

Thanks for those diagrams, Gonads. I may be getting a plastic Trygon to pair with my resin one.

True, but 50% off is still cheaper than paying the price of the whole model if all you want is the head. Plus, if enough people ask Chapter House nicely, they may make a varient head for less.

Or you could just buy the whole kit from a discounter for a few dollars more than buying just a head or wait till the frenzy to get the new kit dies down and then grab an undervalued auction on eBay and snag the whole model for probably around $30. I've already snagged two IG Hellhounds for about $29.50 each with no tax or shipping, same for Chaos Terminators when both kits basically list at $50.

Everyone's idea of what is a worthwhile value is their own. I personally wouldn't pay $20 just for the head when the whole kit costs $49.50 and there are ways to get it at less than that.

The deathspitter actually seams like a simple enough conversion (compared to the other 2) to make out of green stuff on the older models.

I'm wondering if the carnifex heads might be close enough in size to serve as a good base for a swappable option. Since the kits are touted as compatible, seems like a decent possibility.

2 further observations:

Those spine thingies from the Mawloc will be useful in conversions, and might have to go on my Zoans to make them look more Eldar-ish (they have the same blade-fin-shape as lots of lame spase elfs stuff).

Also, these manuals look CG, so I'm assuming that the new kits are all 3D design. I'm stoked that this means less likelihood of further Morley models, manky Biovore mistakes, etc. The computer-generated stuff, while not as inspired as some of the best hand sculpts, is good for repetition of a theme. It also seems like it's easier to modify when someone hands in a low-quality sculpt.

Hey Gonads- since you've just put one together, could you please let us know if the neck socket and head bits for the Trygon will match up with head bits for the Carnifex? 'Cause it would be nice to be able to magnetize heads. Thanks!
