BLACKHAND wrote:Thats been the worry I think since Ice Angel mentioned it, impaled Nids or a Necron being ground under a tank tread ( A la' Terminator) would be fine but another Marine might not sit as well especially as at that point in the Badab war the Claws still thought of themselves as "good" or at least "not chaos"...still its Ice Angels models at the end of the day

Blackhand you hit it right on the head. I think I should step back here a minute and further explain my take on the Astral Claws. I am painting my Astral Claws like the way they were originally printed WAY back in the day, when Astral Claws and Tiger Claws were basically the same thing. As for my modeling and overall theme, I wanted them to be in the time line when the reality of the situation began to sink in, so when the Astral Claws first walk upon a battlefield strewn the dead marines that they had killed, when my marine is looking down at the exorcists shoulder pad he is thinking what have i done? That's what I am ultimately going for, my Astral Claws believe in what they are doing is right, but that feeling hasn't been replaced by hatred which I think eventually turns them to chaos. So if I had a marine on the front of a rhino it wouldn't be as a trophy, however I don't think I have the modeling capabilities to convey that message, so instead I will leave my tanks as be and let my marines really tell the story.

You could use one of the GW's Space marine casualties, and use the one that looks like it is crawling away with his sidearm pointed, put the vehicle on a base with it, and make it look like he is at his last stand, trying to avoid his inevitable death, that way you have the idea of both sides fighting for what they think is "good".

Lol, that's funny. I'm hoping if I painted a dread it would come out a bit better then that one though.

SO, I have built the last few models in my army, cleaned, and primed them. All except my commander. I have all of my bits for my commander but I have been thinking, what should I do with his base? Have him standing on a marine? Have some rubbly bits nearby? Discarded weapons? Have him standing on a piece of a tank? What are your thoughts?

I am not using Huron, I'm using his second in command. Corien Sumatris.

I know it could come off cheesy but having him share a base with a cyber-tiger would be kinda cool

Dead ass marine has my vote. And if your not using the FW model, who on your team is?

You can only have one Imperial Armor unit and my commander is that choice. He is out of the IA 9 and fantastic for the points.

When you play him, let me know how he does. I'd like to add him to my Red Corsairs

I would do something very different with him than the other mariens, so i wouldn't go down the route of dead marine on his base. My first concept is to have him ontop of a ruined imperial statue. That would be interesting and keep with your theme but make him very different from the other marines.

Not real sure on the characters fluff either. Might help to figure out some good basing.

I've already played with him several times and I've had great success with him, I think what I like about him the most is his ability to give all of his allies furious charge and +1 WS, very handy especially when I know I'll be fighting plenty of other marines.

You know Sage, I think you're right. I do have the GW rubble pack, maybe I can get some inspiration from that.

Yeah the cyber tiger is a cool idea, but I am not sure how I'd pull that off nor do I think it would fit into the fluff. Cool idea though.

For those without IA9, Corien Sumatris is Huron's second in command and a weapons master, WS 7 even! There is even a *hint* in the fluff that Corien may have even been the chapter master of the Tiger Claws, before they were absorbed back into the Astral Claws. At any rate he is neat and only 165 points!

Quick question, for those with IA10, what does it say about the Executioners?

Simple, but looks good.

I'm assuming you want to keep it on a 25mm? I seem to recall on a different thread that you are allowed to increase the base size of any model which is why I ask? If it#s on a 25mm then I would possibly ass a marine back pack on the ground or a rhino hatch or something. It wouldn't take up too much room but would allow you to add the colour you particularly want. Could well be too simple for your force commander but it's always so hard on a 25mm base.

Gitsplitta to answer your question, he doesn't have any effect on the army, but all units in his force within 12 inches get +1 WS, which can be handy. Which would also work on coalition members for Adepticon. Do you think I should paint my commander the same as everyone else or like my tanks, black with orange stripes? That would certainly make him stand out a bit.

So today I've been doing a little bit of painting, I completed one guy and worked on some backpacks, and as I stared at my last three marines, I realized that I wasn't able to get through my list. To revisit,

Fire Hawks - helmet
Marines Errant -
Red Scorpions - shoulder pad
Minotaurs -
Novamarines -
Howling Griffons -
Star Phantoms - banner
Exorcists - done - shoulder pad
Fire Angels -
Salamanders -
Space Sharks - torso
Sons of Medusa - belt pouches
Raptor Legion - helmet

Now, on my last three marines, one has the raptor legion helmet, one has the exorcist shoulder pad, the other has another dead marine torso that I haven't started to paint yet. Any one have a preference?

On a side note, I've been collecting random bits to put on the display base, I was looking through my old models to see what I could cannibalize. 2nd edition land speeder is on the top of that list!

Good question. I guess it would mainly matter if you felt that you'd lose track of him or if the figure itself wasn't different or unique enough that your opponents could recognize it.

Howling Griffons for the win! I've always loved that army, i may start it after i finish my sky wardens hahaa.

can you fit the other chapters on models if you enlarge your army to above 1000 points, and will you?

Sorry if I (again) seem focussed (to say the least), but reverse camo would be awesome...

(I think I'm going to start a thread where I count all the happenstances I've asked for such a thing... Talk about OCD lol!!)

@ Yggdrasil - focused

IMHO black with the orange stripes sounds great for command element troops, such as commanders, and command squads, so that way they are distinguishable from the regular joes.

Just to play devils advocate, if you make your important folks in reverse camo, and you give them, lets say a rhino, wont it look like all the other ones?

IMO, if you decide to use the reverse camo for important stuff, similar to gits usage of the Tranq Pattern, wouldn't you have to either assign the rhino you've already done in reverse to said important folks, or have to repaint it to normal colors?

hmmmm, very good point WM. I do want to paint him differently but maybe not the reverse camo scheme. Possibly more stripes, or larger stripes, or a different color?
