Hello.

I'm a 26 year old Dane. I've never done any wargaming before, nor have I painted any miniatures at all. I assembled / painted a few model cars around the (young) age of ten, but I'm not sure that really counts...
If it hadn't been for Dawn of War - the computer game I'm sure most of you are familiar with - I wouldn't even have known Warhammer 40K existed.

After trying to dissuade myself from buying a box of miniatures for a few months, I finally gave up. Called up my younger brother, convinced him we needed to start "playing", and reconnected with my inner geek (not bad all in a days work). I have to admit that people like Lbursley on youtube, and migsula on this site, pretty much destroyed my chances of resisting the hobby.

Reading the Eisenhorn Omnibus, didn't exactly turn me away from the great dystopic universe, that is 40K.

When I had realized I couldn't resist, I started reading about the different races of 40K - and in the end thought that Space Marines would be the best choice for a complete painting beginner such as myself - that, and I thought several of the SM chapters' paint scheme looked pretty damned fine.
To cut a long story short, I'm now sitting with the SM half of the AoBR box in front of me, and I'm happy to say, I don't regret it at all!

I hope my intro wasn't too boring a read, and that I will eventually be able to paint / mod / cut miniatures as well as some of you!

@Gitsplitta
Having looked through a few of the threads here, I'm just hoping I'll be able to produce something - that will be worthy of a few pics I could share with you lot. At any rate I'm prepared to try!

All you need is the guts to put them out there, the dakka community can give you a hand from there. My painting and modeling have both gotten much better since I started to read & post my work on dakka. I'm sure you'll find the same.

I'll be sure to post my first attempts, as soon as my paints arrive! - Whatever the result may be.

Before joining, I read a few threads here and there, and it seems to me that the community, as you said, is great. There also seems to be a mature and helpful atmosphere around here.

Excellent intro! I, too, am 26 and recently rediscovered the hobby (although I played when I was a lad ). Good to have you, and don't be afraid to try your own ideas! But you can certainly glean (read: steal ) many from the Painting & Modelling section of the forum, as well

good intro and not to worry about quality as a beginner most people will give fair advise and critisisum, its normaly quite easy to judge the level of the hobbist from the pictures and quality of work and give advise aimed at the correct level and stage of progression,

welcome and I hope you enjoy your new hobby

Thank you all for the kind welcome, I'll be sure to post up a few pics of my first minis when my paint arrives. I was thinking about starting a "complete beginner's blog", something that might be(come) an interesting read for other beginners...
