So out of the vast array of 40K wargear, what item do you always take into battle? What is your favorite piece of wargear? What is your favorite melee weapon? What is your favorite shooting weapon?
For myself, I've fallen in love with the Wolf Standard from C:SW. It IMO is probably in the top three most powerful pieces of wargear in the entire game. Melee weapon, its the powerclaw/powerfist. Double strength, no armor save. As for shooting weapon, I'm going with the Hammerhead Railgun. 72" S10 AP1, or S6 AP4 pie plate. Its just a lot of hurt.

I never leave without my missile launchers or my boltguns. They pull through for me.
Favorite Melee wargear is the LC. About as effective as a PF in CC against MEQ but is faster.
And the blood chalice is the best piece of wargear for me.

Powerklaw. Boss pole. If these aren't on the nobs leading the boys into battle, you're doing it wrong. Generally, if the boys aren't in battle, you're doing it wrong.

Mine has to be my SAG mek. Is it reliable? Nope. Does it miss the target half the time? You bet. Has it wiped out my own units more than the enemy? Yup. But it's just too much darn fun for me to leave out of the fight.

It's complicated."

My favorite single piece of kit is the 5pt melta bomb I bought my Platoon Commander. His squad has four flamers and rides in a chimera, but he's knocked out enough stuff with that little bomb to make it a pet favorite.
I play mech guard, so my real favorites are melta guns, of course.

Shooting: Blight Grenades (fluffwise), throwing the heads of your enemies at your enemies…come on!

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Never Leave Home without: The Emperor's Champion. He's kind of manditory to my army, and fun as hell.
Wargear: Extra Armor on transports. If you can't move a transport, how are you going to contest objectives or kill stuff? ALWAYS put EA on transports.
Favorite Melee Weapon: The Emperor's Champion's Black Sword. S6 weapon that kills a lot of crap!
Favorite Shooty Weapon: Plasma Cannons. All Plasma, All the time!

In 5th ed, I so far haven't left home without at least a dozen (or two) weapons that contain the word "melta" in their name.
But the real workhorse of my army is the priest. Ever since I first included one in my list a little over 3 years ago, I have only once come to the field without at least one eviscerator priest (and that was in a 500 point game). Rerolls to hit and death incarnate against vehicles that can hide in a squad is too much to pass up.

Seriously, the one must have for any squad I put on the table is at least one chainfist. Practically a meltagun on a stick... errr glove, it bumps average penetration from 11-12 to 15, and with three attacks on the charge it makes short work of any vehicle*.
