Dear Dakka Webmaster

After the Runaway success of Whale Music's great Marine swap thread and The Storm Wardens created by the another 40K forum (Heresy!) . I suggest DAKKA should maybe do something similiar.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/305404.page

A Dakka Space Marine Chapter (Everyone submits their own Marine to Dakka), It would require a MOD or someone to put up a Postal Address. It would then be an ongoing item as they gather and are photographed and put on the Website, like a Chapter of a Thousand Armours and colours. Then photographing them as the ranks swell.

My own suggesstion would be a "DAKKA DAKKA ORK MOB" as it is more original and inkeeping with the Image and the website. All Dakkarites would submit their own creations (A small postal charge at their own expense) buts lets be honest its just for fun and we all have lots of spare parts and paints hanging around!

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

What would happen to these models once we post them?

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

Yeah the only problem I can see with this is that Dakka doesn't have an IRL central HQ where it could go... If GW was running an event like this (back in the days where everyone liked them for their personality) I imagine the end result would be showcased at Warhammer World or some such.

To Valkyrie, we would photograph them and post them on the Forum then they would join their fellow Mini's in a Glass display case or something. The Storm Wardens Project (From the Warp did it!) got all their members to paint a certain colour scheme, they numbered in their hundreds and they were sold at the end for a Charity..How cool is that!
To MasterDRD, I have an idea on this. I have a contact who runs his own independant store, We could do it for everyone though maybe some guys in the US might get annoyed. We have some big Display cases we could use. Give me a few weeks and i'll start options.

Ideas like this don't cost much, it is the momentum of it that carries it forward just like on WhaleMusic360's Great Marine Swap. People are exchanging models all over the world, for the cost of postage and the quality of some of those miniatures is astounding!

Well I'm down for it. After all it's only 1 marine, everyone and their grandma has at least 1 random space marine that's just laying around, collecting dust...

If we do get this going though, we should probably have it moved to painting and modelling so we don't fill up legoburner's email.

I actually suggested the same thing a while ago, (I actually suggested using them to battle a delagation from Warseer as well) but unfortunately the reply I got from Yakface was that it would be a cool idea but not practical due to the fact that Dakka has no central base and Yak has no really good gaming store around him so he would have to keep them all in his house, which would be extremely impractical (for anyone) for an Ork mob the equivalent size of a chapter. You'd need a huge amount of organisation as to colour scheme as well (not so much for orks, but you'd still need some) So I'm pretty sure having an actual collection of models is a no-go. You might want to wait for confirmation from Yakface about this, as things might have changed.

However, he IS planning to have a 'virtual' ork mob, whereby members of Dakka post pictures of a painted Ork in article form, and these pictures are grouped into squads, klans, and everything else that an Ork army has in the way of Organisation. This would also encourage participation as you wouldn't have to send off your beautifully painted model to some stranger on the interwebs.

So, it is in the pipeline, but it is a huge organisational challenge (I'm sure you've seen the threads on Warseer), so it won't be happening soon.

Besides, Yak still has to paint the Warboss.

I like it as an idea, I'd be up for it if it took off. Yak could do a warboss, Lego does a Big Mek, Mod's get to do Nobz, DCM's get Ard Boyz and all us lesser folk get to do a Boy each. It would look amazing IMO

Give me this weekend to talk to a friend, this maybe so on. It may require some greasing of palms, and I need to speak to the Owner/Operator of DAKKA for their approval.

We've been discussing the virtual Dakka Waaagh for well over a year now.

I really don't think its a good idea to have anyone send models anywhere for this thing, for the exact reasons stated above, but having a virtual army, should still be fun.

This was exactly the idea and all the images would be collected and organized using the Dakka article system (it would work great for that).

The big hold-up for all of this is me and me alone as I really wanted to get a Warboss model painted to post up as the color scheme for the whole thing. I went out and bought a Kaptin Badruk model (who else would be the Boss for Dakka?) but have been lazy for a very, very, very long time.

The main thing I need to do is buy a desk to put in my garage as since I moved into my house in November I still haven't gotten around to creating a workable painting area and that's really holding me back.
