Hi.
How much you paint , is as subjective as how much detail you paint .
If its a gamer just wanting to get an army on the table ASAP.
They may not be as fastideius as a collector painting something up for display purpouses.

It is realy just down to personal preference.

Generally not. If I glue the whole thing shut (which is usually the case) then I don't bother. Same as I generally don't bother to paint the underside of tanks.

However, if I am making more of a display piece as well as a gaming piece, then I will paint bit you would not generally see. For example, I made the roof of my valk able to come off so you can see inside.

I used to paint the inside of vehicles but I can't be bothered anymore...Also, with so much to paint all the plans I had for drilling out Bolter barrels and the like are out the window!

I glue everything down for transport reasons so anything I cant see gets left blank, Gives me more time to work on the details of what you can see! I take pride in my painting, but as I have limited free time it makes no sence for me.

I never bother painting the inside, especially on chimeras that have no real interior detail

I only paint the insides if the doors will open.

I don't paint the insides. Hell, I glue all my models together before painting so sometimes I can't even paint under guns and stuff.

If I were doing my army all over again though, I'd probably do it differently, but really I don't see the point of painting the inside since I don't want to be bothered with actually opening and closing the doors during a game.

Unless you take the time to super-detail and light the interiors, painting the inside of any GW is a bit of a waste. The lack of working mechanicals and space for crewmembers is a bit of a joke, IMO. That being said, if one chooses to paint the inside, it's their hobby and they can spend their time however they feel

I never have. All of my vehicles have been glued shut.

Originally, I would have just painted what you can see, but now...I expect more from myself. I've even started painting vehicles on the sprue. All hope is lost.

I only have Eldar vehicles, and I have glued all of those shut. But I do leave the windows clear and paint the pilots. I actually paint the entire cockpit. I even paint the little scanners right in front of the pilot/gunner. When people actually notice little details like that if they look closely, it makes me feel good.

On vehicle insides I do not. However on my marines I paint all of them whether I think they will be able to be seen or not, just because if I mess it up and I CAN see the part that I didn't think I would be able to after its glued... well thats gonna be a pain to get without messing up other painted parts.

I will generaly only paint the inside on a special conversion project, so if I was to drop a fair bit of money for something I'll pull the old finger out and make the effort, other wise if its box standard I want then its glued shut never to see day light again. SM stuff mostly, with eldar I've taken to not even bother with the cockpit, I tend leave the pit and pilot out of the model itself and paint the windows then varnish it. One project I have only painted the inside but havent yet painted the outside, its been a few months now. I should really get that done, tis a bane-raider after all.

So yeah, cheap stuff rhinos will be a quick splash if anything, land raider I'll take a little time on as the front can open but mostly just somthing to coverthe bare plastic, special builds sometimes more time than the outside(which makes no sense, I know). But I tend to make the interior detail.

I'll paint it, it'll catch shade wash, but I won't detail it.

Depends on the bit in question. I'll still paint as much of a Space Marine's chest eagle as I can, but I'm not detailing the inside of a rhino. Feth that noise.

I paint everything on my individual marines. Every purity seal, every chest eagle. Even those little grenades and packs they put on the sprue get at least two shades and an ink wash. I really think picking out the details on your basic troops just makes them look that much better.

The thing is, you can see those things.

That's not the same as painting "hidden" stuff like the inside of a shoulderpad.

I don't paint the insides of tanks, I glue the doors shut and all.

But when it comes to figures I like to make sure it's all painted. I'll paint it in pieces, like for a marine I'd glue the legs, body and left arm together, then paint the right arm & gun, helmet and shoulder pads separately. I hate when ya can't get the brush in those tight little areas
