I'm pretty sure Guilliman said that the Codex cannot be used for every occasion, and that it is up to the individual to decide what course to take. It was never supposed to dictate the only way to fight.

I recall something similar, possibly in the Index Astartes entry or one of the Ultramarines novels, probably Warriors of Ultramar, during a discussion about Uriel's predecessor as Captain.

From what I hear it was in the Age of Darkness collection of short stories as well. Rules of Engagement, I do believe.

Haven't read it but I still recall it somewhere, the two sources I stated being to most likely.

And Alpharius was the primarch of the Alpha Legion. The Ultramarines themselves doubt that it was actually him that Guilliman killed.

Then you have no knowledge of their part in the 3rd War for Armageddon do you? Flesh Tearers are a little more than just a cursed founding. How about the Silver Skulls? Do you even know about them as well.....you might want to re-read your fluff there.....there are many that are far more arrogant than even the Ultras.

And like I've explained; the UM's in the Uriel Ventris series is is pretty laughable.....entertaining, yes, but far from a decent, solid story.

I really like my ultramarines, they will always be my favorites because they are the ones I started with, if I had a chance to start over marines, I would because I like the special rules that many other chapters have with them, but I love the history of the UM, every time one of them dies in one of my battles, i feel like a little part of my sould goes with them. People who diss on UM are just looking to diss

Graham McNeill has done a fine job of giving the Warriors of Ultramar the facade of being the pinnacle of the Imperium, paragons of virtue. But he's given them a subtle undercurrent of being so terrified of failure or change that they rigidly adhere to the blessed Codex Astartes where they ought to be flexible.

Captain Uriel Ventris is banished from the Chapter for the gross crime of going off the beaten track to save a planet from the Hive Fleet - and succeeding. The Ultramarines are so rigidly bound that they hamstring themselves.

Even the great Primarch Guilleman says, in the latest Heresy Omnibus, that "This tome is not meant to be an exclusive guide, men must decide on their course of action based on the situation, one book cannot prescribe everything." And, like much knowledge, this too is lost, leaving the Ultramarines desperately clinging onto their book in a failing Imperium very, very different from the one in which the Codex was written ten thousand years before...

Okay, Miraclefish, that probably the most intelligent and well thought out response against the Ultramarines that I have seen in this post, I will give you that one. Mostly because you did not say "CUZ THEIR SMURFS" or "CUZ THEY SUCK".

Though we didn't get the Necron codex which was annoying... i had some good ideas. The next one we work on is gonna be great.

We are doing a Tau with BT mercenaries codex...
The Tau have recently mind controlled the entire BT chapter by travelling back in time.

40k and time travel?
My head already hurts....
And if the Tau need something for real it's Imperiums or Necons FTL technology.

Yeah we are working on them mind controlling the Tyranids so they can use their FTL bio-tech.
