A little christmas treat just appered on the GW site. Its a new Cities of Death mission, haven't had time to read through it and will probably never play it...but thought I'd share it
GW wrote: As part of our Season of Strife, we present this downloadable scenario for Warhammer 40,000. During the lengthy defence of Hurzon, scores of Imperial Guard regiments were deployed in defence of its key manufacturing zones. The Vostroyan IX Regiment were deployed around the hive city of Tzeragrod

Apart from the "Death Hall" rule, it's pretty generic. I'm quite unimpressed.

There is something to be said for simplicity: most players won't be bothered to play a scenario that is too complex anyways.
The "Death Hail" mechanic is nice because it can be used to represent any number of things: toxic rain, daemonic ooze storms, acid showers, etc., etc. and thus can be tied in with any number of themed tables. scenarios or armies.
I like the fact that the rending allows for even heavily armoured individuals to succumb to the bitter cold/hypothermia...
I see it as a nice generic template to be applied to other scenarios/games.
To each his own...

Don't get me wrong, I love what the Death Hail represents, etc, but apart from that, it would be good to see something apart from the "standard 12" deployment, who has most objectives wins" mission, something more relating to a siege would be better.

I wish they would put out more scenarios for free. If only to distract me from the boring ones in the core rule book.

A real siege in 40k would probably entail 1000's of models on each side. During a protracted siege, armies will creep up on each others' positions, look at the siege of Vicksburg. not truly static fortifications, but a building to building encroachment, slowly strangling the other force. This would be a low-level portion of a siege, one of those small encroachments, especially in poor weather, everyone is looking for cover.

Interesting, might have to see if I can try it out
I too am a fan of the more simple missions, makes for a faster paced game if you don;t have to keep referring back to sheets of info.
