Hello! I've been doing commissions lately, and I feel like I'm getting good at it. But the thing is... I don't really get to paint things that I want to paint. So I've decided to put up a list of things that interest me, and do the commissions for free! These are things that I have basically have no intention of ever purchasing, but would love to paint!

Update! Pictures on page two! Thanks to Son of Dorn for letting me paint his Venerable Dreadnougnt for him!

Here's a couple things I feel like doing, off the top of my head:

Tzeetch Stuff. Anything at all. I have a lot of colors I never get to use, so If you have something you need painted, I'm your man.

Eldar. Anything but Dire avengers. They're boring.

Daemons. I'd prefer not to do Khorne, but I could, I guess. Again, I'd like to use some insane colors

Vampire counts. Something cool. I like the look fo them, but I don't play fantasy :3

IG Tanks. Looking to do some sort of light grey- light brown weathering. Need practice..

Fun stuff! Anything not listed that you think would be cool for me to paint.

I'll update this list as I find things that interest me. Like I said, all commissions are free, unless it's outrageous (like two baneblades. I have no interest in two). I do ask that you include return shipping, seeing as I can't really lose money doing something for free

I'm also doing regular commissions, so If you have one of those things, just PM me. I'm kind of busy though, so nothing huge

Thanks!

ha, actually, I was just thinking about this

For now, I guess you'll have to trust me based on my reputation but I promise you'll be more than satisfied with my work. I've been doing commissions for a couple months now, and my clients have all been very pleased with my work. I'd love if they took some pictures for me, but alas, they have not I'm god-awful at taking pictures, so I haven't gotten around to taking any yet (a bad picture is worse than none, I think).

So yeah! I guess you'll just have to trust me! I've done good commissions for:

With 4K posts, I think you've got a vested interest in your "reputation" here at the Dakka. I've got a Dark Reaper Wraithlord conversion in my gallery that's spent it's life with the basecoats shown there. I'd love to get it finished but have been tied up with my own commissions as well as painting my Crimson fists army.

If you're up to it, I'll donate him to the cause, take quality pics of him when I get him back, post them in the Showcase, and write a ringing endorsement. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Is there an insurance policy available for what happens if some of our models end up on the floor?

So a member who has past issues with theft is asking me to ship models that i work hard to buy halfway across the country so he can paint them and have them returned on the basis of "good reputation"? The whole reputation concept is enough considering some of your other posts have a tendency to personally attack other members or harshly criticize their models despite their best efforts. Give people some form of insurance and you might get some commissions, post some of your models and you might get more.

I'll move on. Good luck getting commissions (for real, no sarcasm).
You would probably get some more people to sign up if you had some gallery shots. I would suggest learning how to set up a good location in your house for shooting with plenty of light. It's hard to take a bad photo as long as you have enough light.
Also, maybe turn that Shrike in to the counter at the shop it went missing from. That way, its' like it never happened. It's real easy to say "I found this on the floor"... leave out the 6 months ago part.

All that happened was someone who was a cheater left behind a model, and then this person then picked it up, tbh, it could have been anyones, I bet EVERYONE on on this website has done something, or said something they wish they hadnt, but could then not take it back, its human nature. And if we are picking at things I dont think anyone with the name 'Lord Shag' on website frequently visited by children is that respectable either. Shame you dont live in the UK Samus, I would jump at the opurtunity for a free comission! (on account of me being a bad painter and too cheap to get any commissions done!)

Thank you, that means a lot. I'd be willing to do commissions to the UK, but seeing as I'd be making the owner pay the return shipping, it gets too expensive, and I understand that I spent like 12 dollars shipping a dreadnought to some german guy

I like your Idea, but I agree about the pictures.

Vent wrote a great Tut on photo taking. even if you manage to do half of what he says you will get a decent photo. I myself don't have a photo tent or tri pod or even a great camera, but I improvise and my photos in my gallery aren't that bad. If you look at whalemusic's The Great Marine Swap blog, which is a similar idea. You will see that not all the photos are perfect but look how well the blog is doing.

Having 4k posts is wonderful and any advice you give to anyone is worth it's weight. But with the art aspect of the hobby you need pictures. It will also prevent complaints on quality. We have no Idea of your talents. For example someone might expect realistic quality but receive table top and they might get very upset.

If taking photos is your only problem then learn how to do it and I guarantee you that this thread will do alot better

This could help you out, if the lightbox you are looking at is more expensive than the base parts. This is what I use for my macro photo. It has it's problems, but you can't beat the price.

http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2006/03/pvc_light_box_light_tent.html

Some PVC glue, and you are all set. I you go to an ACE they can even cut the pieces for you for free.

There are also modifications you can make (I have a vellum tent that I taped together from 8.5x11 sheets that I put over it to cut the glare from the lights a little.)

Anyway, I hope this helps you out. If you really want to get into commission work in the long-term, the things you are doing now will help you out for years ahead.

and @ winnertakesall - First, I wasn't looking for respect. Second, I have no idea what you are thinking about my love for a particular style of carpeting, but please keep it to yourself. There are children on this board.

But it wasn't. It was recognized as a model belonging to a person which had offended Samus. Taking it was an act of revenge, which Samus admitted to relishing.
A bit tasteless, and not up to the standards I would personally accept when it comes to trusting a business or individual with models that have not only fiscal but sentimental value.
But I don't think its the crime of the century or anything.

Isn't that a thing that usually flies over childrens heads because of them not reaching the age of knowledge? Until someone, you know, points it out or something.
Also, isn't that an almost purely Brittish slang anyway? You're European. I saw more frontal nudity on TV (the "Telly") when I lived there than I could (almost) shake my stick at.
If you're gonna get all midwestern mom on Shag, at least do it in a place that has those values or without negating your own points by exposing kids to new swears.
Shag was able to convey his thoughts and warning in a very civilized manner, and I'm sure that he would appreciate you affording him the same respect.

Hey! Wait a minute, this applies to you as well! In this very same sentence and context! How very droll.
Platitudes aside, I'm more and more convinced every day that everyone else is a generic humanoid carbon unit. Same excrement, different pile.

For my own thoughts, not in response to anyone, I'd like to say that Samus Aran is one of my all time favorite names ever.
Whenever asked to give a name when I don't want to use my own, I'll usually fill out "Justin Bailey" on the form. Few ever pick up on it, and it makes me smile every time.
Those games are great.
