Do you game a lot? Do you have a certain miniature that keeps breaking?

If so, talk about it here. We'll call it "Therapy".

I hate that certain IG Cadian figure that is walking with one foot up.

Roughly 20% of the Cadian Shock Troops have this set of legs that doesn't attach to a base very well. Since I magnetize my bases, the feet tend to come off the base a lot because the strength of the magnet is more than the strength of the model glue bond that attaches the figure's foot to the base. To deal with the problem, I get different legs from EBay and have started getting the five figure "Plug-and-Play" Cadian riflemen set from GW.

What figures cause you grief?

Miniature therapy? Wonder why GW hasn't come up with that concept themselves!

Though i've got a Trygon, that needs to see a dentist, more than a doctor - it's left jaw-mandible keeps allocating (his from the early days of the-art-of-magnetizing practice).

I recently glued the Slaaneshi champion on bewb-snake together for the Dakkacon tourney...

It was a colossal bitch to fit together due to casting issues (the metals used do seem to be deteriorating in quality in recent times imo) and I have the impression that it's going to happily break at any and all opportunities...

I've never personally had any problems, hell I've even glued a techmarine with servo harness that survived a trip in the mail in one complete piece.

However, a friend of mine has some metal chaos demons that just won't stay together, I always find it fitting (and funny)

OP, why do you magnetize bases?

I lose Ork shoota arms fairly often, and I've finally lost one of my IG pointing fingers for good. At least the shoota arms are big and bright green, and I can see where they fell - that tiny index finger is lost to the warp forever.

Magnets allow me to easily transport 60-100 IG infantry around in a big fruit box. That way I get them to games safe and sound. I also have movement trays with five IG on each tray. The magnets on the bases stick to the trays so I can pick up and move five guys at a time instead of one model at a time. The movement trays are just handy box covers (99 cents each) with paint and GW sand on them.

I think the finger is a total loss but I'm surprised that the shoota arms come off. Were the figures painted before you glued on the Ork arms? Or did you use super glue instead of plastic model cement?

The worst model was the old 2nd edition Land Speeder, that in theory came with a 'flight base', but in practise the massive weight of the model meant that whenever you saw the model in use it was sliding around the battlefield on its belly like some kind of high-tech lawnmower.

Some of the old dragons were pretty terrible to assemble as well, and the weight of the wings meant they were constantly breaking.

This made me laugh! And yes, I've seen these "lawnmowers" on the tabletop...but they are few and far between now.

The stupid little slidey thing that the gunner in a land speeder has. Mine are 100% off all my speeders, and I have never seen one break, they are just gone.

Now I'm nervous since I just got my first SM Land Speeder. Is there hope?

Also the Nightbringer- Very top heavy metal model, and moving it between tables at tournaments invariably ends with him sliding off/swan-diving out of whatever i use to move him, or tipping over in play..

His spindly little arms break off so easily, and the seperate scythe end is getting to the point wher ei'm going to magnetize it.. :(

Ugh those tippy toes legs. Yeah OP i know the bane of those. I just cheated and put a small blob of greenstuff under the boot and painted it as a rock. Works enough to give it some extra area for glue and less of a chance to break off.

Captain Obvious's solution to models breaking when you drop them:

DON'T DROP THEM.

My solution is in 2 parts.

1) LRN 2 Pin, noobs.

GW plastic models and regular plastic bases?
Small offcuts of sprue UNDER the base give you a thicker area to pin into. Models standing on one foot can always be pinned into the foot.

Sniper rifle barrels CAN be pinned back on (spear shafts can be pinned, and generally the barrels are the same thickness). With a small enough bit and a steady hand, you can pin most of GWs parts back together.

2). Learn the maxim: Right tool for the right job. There are glues that give better or worse results depending on where they are used AND HOW MUCH is used.
