As the title says, if you went up against someone who wanted to use forgeworld rules, ie, a forgeworld character. But they would only use them if you allowed it, they wouldn't force you, then would you let them or not?

Because as an upstart tau player I've figured out that tau independent characters really stink. They are "okay" I suppose, but for the points value I'd expect something a lot better. What in the world would a tau army do with farsight? He's great in CC (relative to tau), its too bad no one else is in the tau, and the one auxiliary that is good you can't use. And shadowsun, is shadowsun.

Yet some of the forgeworld IC's are pretty sick. Definitely what I'd expect for 200 point IC's.

So, what would you guys do, let them use the forgeworld rules, or not?

The tau are new and always ahead of their time, they were meching it up before it was "cool".

Overall it is your call, but I think you will find that most people will let some things like that fly in friendlier games.

okay, thanks, I figured no sense in using the money if I cant use it in game. Although, the experience of painting un utter badass would have been enough incentive.

I think they're fun and interesting. Then again, I also quite often play purely for kicks, or scenario based wargaming where there are no point value (gasp!). For example, you can field an absurd number of WS4 stubborn, las-pistol/CCW guardsmen using the Krieg list, which makes for a really fluffy and fun guard list.

I like them.

I dont have any problem with them as long as my opponent has the rules for them not just "I think they get this.."

There's the one or two models I wouldn't play, and then there's the ones I'm not familiar with strictly rules-wise - those I won't play. An expansion may be legit, but if we agree on playing WH40K we've not automatically agreed on the expansion, so to speak. Maybe I don't want to play against Dark Archons today.

However, the reverse is true. If I bring a Warp Hunter, I expect the same consideration from my opponents. If they don't like a fast skimmer D-Cannon, then I don't hold it against them for saying no.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

If they have Imperial Armour with them and are willing to wait 5 mins whilst a read through their entry and see if I think its broken then I wouldn't mind.

I wouldn't mind playing against any Forgeworld units, they're kinda interesting and especially for the Tau (who I play against a fair bit) they could do with some interesting characters.

I agree. I would have to look at the rules before I could decide whether I wanted to play against it.

It also depends on what sort of size battle you're playing. Even if I have the rules available, for some reason people dont like playing against my 888 point greater daemon in a 2000 point game

From what I've heard, people don't like playing against greater daemons period.

tbh, most of the time they are okay. Sure they can be very killy, but they are managable. Apparently an apocalypse gargant thats nearly 900 points is a bit much though

Probably work

I'm cool with FW long as I know that's how it's going to be before I make my list. The attitude usually changes when I mention that I have a Hades Breaching Drill though. I want to get a Lucius Drop Pod for my SM so that I have something broken for SM also.

So wait, you are only OK with it if you know before hand so you can custom tailor a list to defeat it? That is a pretty damn lame sauce tactic right there.

Also SM's don't need anything else to be broken, 3/4 of their codex's can produce stupidly broken combos as it is already.

As long as it isn't super-heavies or gargantuan creatures, people can use whatever they feel like from Forge World.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Theyre Tau... anyone who would be concerned about losing to a Tau army because there is one FW unit included should probably be kicked in the balls...

Any FW models, aslong as they aren't structure points or gargantuan creatures..

And if they field FW stuff, I just want to know they are, not exactly the unit, then its fine with me..

I played Death Guard with Blight Drones and Plaguehulks, so I asked people and usually they were okay with it.

Everyone tailors their list. Period. They tailor it to what's expected and played by the majority of the people out there. Necron lists are different now, then they were in 3rd, then they were in 4th.

It's fair to give your opponent a heads up when you're fielding something that would not be seen in a standard game of 40k.

You are completely missing my point. I'm talking about specifically finding out what your opponent that day is going to field, then building a specific list afterward to deal with it.

The above is incredibly unsportsmanlike and oozes of WAAC stupidity.

FW seems kind of situational to me. A lot of it that isn't super heavies or gargants seems fine, but there are a few that I don't like in games, with the best example that I see locally is probably the drop pod that allows the dreadnaught in it to assault the same turn it comes down. It's game changing, I can't tell you the number of times I've seen otherwise killy units that can't kill an AV 13 dread get insta tar-pitted by a furioso popping out of that thing, or a pod of sternguard blasting away a kroot screen which leaves the dread free to assault a broadside unit and render it useless.
