This just keeps getting better and better, hope you find a good solution for building longer walkways!

Maharg wrote:That's a great looking board you have there Captain and it will look even better with this latest masterpiece added. If I remember right, the walkways from the original set could be slotted into the bulkheads which could help spread the buildings a bit (for example the bottom two in your last picture could be connected like that) so maybe some card walkway replicas might be the way to go?

Thanks Maharg,
Yes, I have loads of the old cardboard walkways, but they are what I am trying to replace with some more 3D versions. The theme for those was pretty complicated and I am concerned that adding too much detail might make them unstable for painted metal models (the scrap bridge notwithstanding which will likely have a warning to players noted on it's stability...it might need some railings).
ListenToMeWarriors wrote:The board and walkways are looking excellent. Amazing how the simple Mantic pieces work really well as Necromunda/hive based walkways...perfect for the aesthetic.

Can the connector pegs you get with the Mantic stuff be used to add a bit more stability/security to the walkways when used in game?

Thank you ListenToMeWarriors,
I have glued the connector pegs into the Mantic bridges for strength to support the above mentioned metal gangers.
Viterbi wrote:This just keeps getting better and better, hope you find a good solution for building longer walkways!

Thanks Viterbi

First longer bridge will be the "Dreaded L Bridge" from the original box...so called because of it's shape and length and exposure to incoming fire to any figures who had to use it.

Using some aquarium gravel supports (three) and some sprinkler extenders for the support coloums.

First mockup.

The ends fit perfectly under the floors of the Necromunda towers, a little lower for the 40K ruins.

The plastic on the aquarium pieces is quite soft and it did not seem to melt a bond with the sprinkler plastic...so I think it will have to be epoxy as only that will handle the flex of the piece.

Thank you youwashock.

L Bridge is done.

Only issue is that it will not reach the lower platform of the square tower due to the square base of the tower and the pillars of the L Bridge. So I might trim down the corners of the base on the square tower.

Nice L bridge and it always amazes me that you see a challenge with a build and than have the perfect solution out of common household materials.

Thanks Viterbi,

The aquarium gravel supports theme came from a youtube video of MidWinter Minis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSXlMRBbE-c

Now I am going to try building one from chip board and granny grating.

I was taking some time to catch up on your blog and when I saw your need for walkways, was going to suggest gravel filters and reference MidWinter Minis' video. Then I turned the page and noticed you were already ahead of me. Excellent work on the towers.

When it comes to detail like riveted panels or detritus in dark corners, I would suggest applying the same logic I do to detail on figures that is behind a heavy gun or under a cape:
Even if no one ever sees it, I know it's there. And that makes it more awesome in my book.

That is all hugely impressive. Weirdly, I am not sure I like how well you matched the colour to the original, as in the photos it just looks as if you just have the original cardboard in there! I guess it must be clear in real life though.

Thank you 416_SpaceWolves.

So another bridge done.

Now I need yet more terrain for all my little bridges to go.

Cheers,

Looking good. You should make the green tower with the lift from Outlanders next!

Thanks youwashock. I will get to that tower when I track on down to use as a base.

So these each have a small platform that could take a bridge/gantry.

This is far simpler than I expected.

Assembly finished and started on painting.

Thanks you two.

Not going to do much, just wanted to get a set of terrain that had been sitting for a couple of years untouched and add a couple of platforms for gantry ways and bridges.

More painting finished.

Oooh- shiny! Very nice glow effect Cap'n, and the colors are very 'industrial well used' natural- very realistic. I'm still working on getting my plasma glow to look like glow and not kindergarten tempura paitn spill!

Thank you DJJazzyJeff, the gangways can site nicely on either side. I did glue the one railing portion on each one for strength.

Finished photos.

Thanks youwashock, now I have built one once it was much quicker to build and paint the second.
gobert wrote:Looking nice and grimdark, the yellow light under the platform looks really good, what was the recipe?

Thank you gobert, not much of a recipe...just used Moon Yellow Vallejo and let it flow naturally down to create the bright yellow at the bottom of the lamp.

Thank you tzurk, next up are some more old metal Necromunda figures.
Viterbi wrote:That was a fast turnover on the scratchbuild, as always great execution and paintjob!

Thanks Viterbi.

Next up are seven old metal Goliaths...possibly some of the ugliest GW sculpts of that 2nd Edition era. To motivate me to actually paint them, I am using the Unofficial Monthly Painting Challenge - submitting five of them for the competition. Now I will admit that the metal Goliaths were better than the plastic ones that came with the core box set. Juves are my favourites if I was forced to chose. The Gang Leader is not the infamous "Chain Head".

No enough for a full gang...so if I cannot acquire any others, I will have them as Scum for hire in my groups post COVID 19 campaign.
