Hello, hello. Many moons ago I bought models. Lots of them. I painted some, intending to get playing...then...kinda didn't. That was two editions ago. Now and again something would get released...and I would buy and paint it. Then I got married, bought a house, got a job...painted more models.

Now I am in the blimmin' daft position of having 4 armies in various states of completion. The first army is a fully complete Space Wolf (ish) army from the last edition, but painted up to resemble my own renegade faction that got lost in the warp. Imagine how much hair tearing occurred when the new Codex came out. All the troops are Beaky armour or earlier to how venerable the army is. I also have a complete but half painted Republican (Imperial) Guard army, a fledgeling Ork horde and another Space Marine chapter on the go, strictly Codex this time.

Loads of miniatures, tanks and a gaming board...but no, and I repeat, NO idea how to even play. Or opponents. I am looking to change that in the not so distant future.

Now, let the laughing commence. I hang my head in shame. SHAME I SAY!

Space Wolves are easy! You roll dice and say vaugely Nordic things, then brag about how awesome you are after you get stomped.

Seriously, your best bet is to just find a group and get stuck in!

Welcome to a greater madness!

Thank you! I intend to get cracking with the whole learning to play thing...but finding a group is pretty much the reason I signed up to these boards in the first place.

I like the idea about the dice hurling. Well meaning relatives are forever buying me dice...perhaps to get me gaming rather than just painting.

For shame. I would make a nice and easy target. I seem to have an allergy to winning.

It's all in the dice, don't worry about it, the biggest tip i can give you for gaming is to make it all about fun, play opponents you enjoy, and know you are gonna get your arse kicked on occasion, but they are the kinda thing we have to deal with

because nothing is fair about losing 2 tanks in one shot and half my army, but hey, sometimes i make that happen to my opponents too

I can definitely empathize with the "four armies in various stages of completion" thing, the trick is now, you have to pick out a 5th and 6th army, and actually complete those!

Enjoy your time here!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Sounds like your armies are intersting, you sound like a bit of a hobby finatic! I would like to see some pictures, pop them in the galleries ;P Why don't you nip down to your local Gaming store and see if there are nights that people play, I would say fire down to Falkirk in Scotland, but you would probably get lost for all of the sheep and rain... Welcome to Dakka, enjoy your stay

Ahhhhhhh.

'The Forge' is now tidied, fully stocked and the lions share of my gubbins has been stored within. Just one box of unopened kits to bring down from the dreaded box room...

I really need to get a shufti on and finish the next army. I think my Colonial Guard are next on the list.
